Thumbs up for making it simple for others to learn and install. FYI, People who use a closed-loop shower system like yours, usually use couple gallons of water to soap and rinse the hair and body off soap and conditioner, then close the loop to use the much less soapy water for a longer shower. In that way, much less soap gets into the closed-loop system and it lasts longer before the periodic cleanout and filter replacement.

You got me thinking, since we can recycle the water for our showers why not recycle the rest of the water too? Like the water for washing dishes and cloths, have that hooked like the same automated system and put in aux tank when done with it, and then use to wash the rig. It will be filter madness, but if we can make a convenient way to keep the filters pure, we win.

First thank you for sharing your inovative ideas. My question is the filter placement. You recommended puting the filter on the output side of the pump. What would happen if the filter was placed on the input side of the pump? Look forward to your response
@GoneBoondocking

Putting the filter on the suction side of the pump would collapse the filter medium inside.
@thomasdipaolo2349

@@GoneBoondocking - good point. Hadnt considered that. I was thinking it would keep the pump cleaner. You did say the pre-filter sock would do that though. Thank you for responding and for the very helpful ideas
@MrScotthollock

Sorry I’m confused - in your first hour shower vid you had the pump screwed into the output side of the pump and relied on a pre-filtering of the basin water through a sock on the sump side to keep out heavy solids, hair, etc and then enters the pump, then the filter. The pump pressure then forces water through the filter... In the diagram, am I now seeing the filter on the lower pressure side of the pump simply under much lower pressure from the sump side? How does the filter do it’s job efficiently on the low pressure side of the pump? I’m a true novice at the plumbing and electrical side of things so please forgive my ignorance while I’m learning. I really appreciate your expert ideas and shared advice.

Have you seen those portable clothing washers some boondockers use and assuming one used the right kind of soap and filter, do you think te water for such a thing could be filtered and put back into the system? They're not closed loop, but it sure would be interesting to see.

I have a 17" square portable washer and it uses so little water and I use so little soap. In fact, I now use a 4 to 1 solution of hydrogen peroxide and Dawn dish liquid and that cleans like nobody's business. :-) Heck, even a 10 to 1 solution works well too. I also like those enzyme detergents as a pre-soak.

New to your videos. They are great. Thank you. One comment, Magnesium Chloride is much better than Stearate because it’s more absorbable in the body because particles are smaller. Much better health benefits. Your system for whole Rv seems complicated Need a pro to do it I guess. I use liquid Casteele soaps. Thanks.

You are my newest discovery for vandwellers and I subbed and looked forward to more solutions for the common problems of vandwellers. Regarding the Hour Shower and extending the use of the filter I like to use a vinegar rinse on my hair and maybe that would help extend the life of the filter - I dunno ?? I also like to condition my hair and scalp with a baking soda solution - it softens the hair, so I like to use it for that, and it is a good, cheap dermabrasion for the skin too.

Thank you for sharing the more permanent setup diagram. I checked on electrical tankless water heaters, but they draw way too much current for your existing solar and battery setup and would not work. Sorry for my ignorance but what does the "Pressure Washer" and "Auxiliary Tank" do?
@sparky6086
5 жыл бұрын
The auxiliary tank is to store the used shower water after you finish showering,, like a grey water tank, but perhaps separate from a non-filtered.grey water tank. The pressure washer is just a suggestion of what to do with that water. You probably wouldn't want to drink it, but you could use it to wash your RV, van, or other equipment, since it's likely cleaner, because of the filter, than usual grey water. He's talking about an ordinary pressure washer, like someone might use to wash their car or driveway. It's all in the spirit of getting as much use out of your water as is practical.
