Thank you KixPicks for the awesome tool!
The PACLOCK UCS-10A is a purpose-built padlock for job boxes and performs its job wonderfully. Its use isn't restricted to just tool boxes however, you could absolutely use this lock like any other padlock.
It has a hardened STAINLESS steel shackle which not only provides cut resistance but weather resistance as well...something most other locks make you choose between.
The lock has 6 pins all of which are stainless steel which provides greater protection against drilling and an overall longer lifespan of the cylinder considering the pins will simply just last longer compared to softer brass pins.
Five pins are security pins, one is standard. Having at least one standard pin helps stabilize the core. Some locks use all security pins for the sake of looking good on paper but it actually causes the core to be loose (especially if they use all spools). There are locks that have all security pins and this isn't an issue, really it comes down to the quality of machining.
There's room for improvement with type of security pins used: having serrated key pins or serrated spools would make picking a little more challenging. Realistically this a minor detail in the overall security of the lock considering if someone has the skillset to pick this lock as is, they know what they're doing and will probably still get in.
The plug design fits over the actuator protecting against bypass attacks.
The plug retainer bolt design is a nice change from c clips...not really a big deal if you're not taking the locks apart but I think it has a lot of potential as an anti-pick / bump feature especially if it was relocated toward the middle or front of the lock or another one added in etc...
The retainer bolt going directly into the core means the lock can't be opened by prying off a security plate...because there is none.
The silicone gasket / weather seal one of the best I've seen. Usually these are made of rubber and they either don't stay in place or crack and fall apart or even just fall off...sometimes right out of the package. PACLOCK added serrated grooves on the lock and "nubbins" on their seal so it actually stays in place. The washer & bolt allow it to freely swing out of the way when operating the lock and easily be removed or replaced if needed. It just works.
This lock is UCS compatible. If you have multiple UCS compatible locks you can quickly and easily swap the cores so that they are all keyed alike.
PACLOCK sells a kit of 5 cylinders (keyed alike, differently, or however you want) that can be used to do this: amzn.to/3l4mQ9v
If you loose a key, this also means you can rekey all of your locks in a matter of minutes instead of spending $$$ on new ones.
PACLOCK put a lot of attention to detail in designing this lock and I think it paid off. Overall I think it's a winner and a great overall padlock that provides a lot of value at a very reasonable price (I paid $36 which is currently the price on Amazon at the time of this review).
