Well I suspect that you just didn't heat that enough, that is a 850w heater and you used much less. Many of the PTC.s have u shaped R T curve, so when they are cool they act like a NTC when cool but hot enough they sharply increase resistance.

This is a piece of information that seems logical. Since yes, I do only push in a tiny amount of current with only 60 volts. Not ample enough to heat it substantially with that power alone and why I used a heat gun as well. But could redo it some day with a bit more power behind it.

How would you wire a five wire element I want to use it for a incubator

The behaviour is expected. Between ambient temp to the reference temperature, it behaves as a NTC, but once it passed the reference temp, it will behave as a PTC. Your tests are done below the reference temp, so naturally it behaves as a NTC. look at the resistance to temp characteristic and you will understand.

And that is explicitly why I use a heat gun to get it up far higher. The plastic enclosure the element were in could not survive the temperatures that this heating element still behaves in an NTC fashion, it chars and risks catching fire. Ie, it doesn't matter if the heating element eventually becomes a PTC, in practice, it is a pure NTC element in the application it served. A consumer who's house burns down won't care if it technically is a PTC.

@@todayonthebench The temperature for PTC behaviour to kick in is past 200 C. The heat gun you used will only heat it locally to pass this temp, but not enough to bring the whole unit pass this temp. The way to test this is to measure the current behaviour when the full voltage is applied. You will see the current increasing (NTC) 2-4 times it's starting current and when the reference temp is reached, the current will drop sharply (PTC).

15 seconds into the video and I already show it, did you watch the video? Also, its a NTC element, it shows no PTC characteristics.
