SSG Michael H Marn of A Company, 15th MI Battalion (AE), was a Technical Observer (Right Seater) in the OV-1D Mohawk during Desert Shield and Desert Storm in 1990 and 1991. This video captures a "normal" Mohawk SLAR (Side Looking Airborne Radar) Combat Mission (Tail number 918) within the 15th MI. Note the use of 300 gallon drop tanks to extend range as well as Twice stopping at KKMC (King Khalid Military City) for refueling and return to track. These made for some very long missions. The pilot in command for this mission was CW4 John C. Fowler, Jr.
The 15th MI Battalion (AE) deployed early to King Fahd International Airport in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia from Fort Hood Texas as part of Desert Shield. At home station they were part of III US Corps but deployed they were attached to XVIII Corps and the 513 MI Brigade.
