Well I know from my own experience following September 11, 2001, as a sailor. We weren't just hoping for some action as we sat around waiting for orders. We wanted to see the coming conflict resolved as quickly as possible. We didn't what we wanted either.

I found you through Sabaton and Sabaton History. I am a huge fan of history and really interested in war history since I just want to try understanding what happened and how and why it could happen. I think you're making really interesting videos! You explain what happened in a really good neutral way telling what happened all over the world through different ankles. It is easy to understand but still very detailed so you really understand the connections between all the different events and battles and how they influenced what happened next. Please continue your series! I love it how you can feel how much you are interested in the topic yourself and how much time you invested to do some really in depth research for your videos!!

Not really a phony war. There was plenty of naval action in the American designated "combat zone" in the seas around Britain, Scapa Flow, - etc. mine warfare, blockades, counter blockades and sinking of British merchant shipping and also neutral nation' shipping. Even naval battles between Britain and Germany in the western hemisphere.

Hi All, For more, the Dole Institute, from former Senator Bob Dole, did a video on this war. kzitem.info/news/bejne/2Yuimndmj6h_aKA The French pilots in the war to come would only rarely bale out of their bombers, there was one position where it was nearly impossible to escape from. The pilots would become badly burned. I think this comes from "Mission Escape" by Sydney Smith, about Wing Commander Harry Day. As long as I am on the subject, during the first part of the war, British aircrew survived baling out most of the time, but later, many would die. The early airplane had an escape hatch that was 2 inches wider than the later airplane, and that 2 inches made all the difference. Thanks for your time, take care.

Can someone explain all the comments in the photo at 5:31? No Hawkers at No 10 Downing St? Is that a hawks and doves reference? So, no hawks in the Prime Minister's residence during the Phony War? I really don't grok any part of: This Establishment out of bounds to all British 'Other' ranks. By order The Cabinet.
@lankinator.
7 ай бұрын
'Hawkers' is most likely a reference to being a 'War Hawk' like Churchill was accused of being over him claiming war was inevitable with Germany such as during the Czechoslovakia incident. Because this is the 'Phoney War' they're applying suitable British sarcasm by saying that despite being literally at War with Germany, they don't want anyone with 'Hawkish' tendencies. The 'other ranks' statement is most likely them poking fun at the government because they are only seen by suitable Field Officers who will tell them lots of suitable and sensible suggestions about what to do during this stage of the 'Phoney War' like stated in the video about planned attacks in 1941 or 1942; whereas if a private or NCO spoke to them they'd probably suggest a plan of attack such as colourfully describing where best to place a bayonet on a Hun and suggesting to attack.

@fearedjames
6 ай бұрын
Because what Finland was supposed to get for it was essentially a half assed bargaining tool to make Stalin seem reasonable. The plan was to make them dismantle their defences to make the future invasion easier, so who cares what they got in the short term. Remember, they just invaded Poland less than a month prior.
