I was a 12 year old Derby fan and there in absolute floods of tears. Just beaten Liverpool in the quarterfinals 1-0

I was there and it seemed to be a magical day where Manchester United were destined to win! ... After Merlin's second goal I was jumping up and down with a complete stranger in celebration! ... lol. I also shed tears of joy at the end of the game ... silly, huh? It was the quality of the opposition that probably made it special at the time as they should have outplayed us but it just didn't happen on the day for them.

This is what an FA Cup semi-final should be, a tense momentous occasion ending in jubilation for one and heartbreak for the other. Greedily moving the semi-finals to Wembley destroyed the magic.

I was 13 years at that time and it was very brilliant for UTD for coming back to Wembly again ..

That Leppings lane end looked tight again... Was there in it with Cov in 87 quarter final..... Leeds packed it again 6 weeks later in the semi final and I think Spurs almost burst it in the early 1980's.....the bang in 89 it happened.

Barry Davies would not cover another FA Cup Semi-Final for twelve years until he did the Luton v Wimbledon game in 1988. He did "voice over" the 1985 SF replay between Man Utd & Liverpool but that doesn't count.

Cracking game. Cracking bones! Bruce Rioch was the Hitman for some reason but McIlroy probably deserved it being tauntingly disrespectful with the ball. Tackles. Where art thee now.

David Nish was onside when that ball was played, with his teammates retreating away from the goal being attacked. Too late now.

(Google Translate.)

At 39:40 minutes: I'll always remember Bruce Rioch's dirtiness. Please tell me if there was any punishment issued to him for this. Why didn't Manchester United all come together and show some unity, anger, or, at least, speak to him about this? Also, tell me when Rioch croaks. I am glad that one of the fans put a boot up his backside.
