Great info, James! PCMs are always hard to call. I've seen several bad Chrysler PCMs...mostly older ones where the 5V or 8V ref takes a dump. Very weird that both coil drivers went bad at the same time...sounds like maybe a common high-current trace got fried on the circuit board? Sweet playhouse too haha enjoyed the "time out" session with the Vantage :)

thanks. I had a few no coms/no starts with chrysler. some jeeps with the no bus displayed in the odo cluster . not sure about the ref voltage crashes

When Chrysler sees incorrect skim three times it locks you out for 15min. Great video big fan love your work and your brothers. Tim, manager from Midas in Philly/ chrysler master tech.

Just working on it...it has fire but it's very weak during the atm test What would that indicate I put a new head on it now no spark is the motor mount needed to have the car running on the pass side ? It's not on right. Now I usually turn it on before I put it back together just a habit lol

With computers that you can get to the circuit board you can trace the bad output to the transistor and check if it is shorted and scope the base/gate of the transistor to see if the microcontroller is controlling the circuit. If your good at soldering (the conformal coating makes it hard to do) replace the transistor. I've used t092 packages to replace the smd transistors in the past. Saves buying a computer and having to reprogram. Nice video btw

Dude! That box is AWESOME! The Pretty Pretty Princess door is a nice touch~ ;D Really interesting video! Odd to have two drivers fail at the same time, but I guess anything is possible! Double-triple check the plugs and wires against factory type, just to make sure. Dunno about Dodge, but I know some GMs use a weird spark plug which they refer to as "Capacitive" rather than "Resistive." Putting the wrong plugs in can kill a coil driver pretty darn quick. :]

never heard of those distinctions with plugs. I have seen the older Isuzu engines with the ion sense modules needing 20$ plugs so that module can determine misfire stuff. wonder how those are labeled. learn new stuff all the time. Thanks

I got no power to the ignition coil from the wire clip has new coil no spark and my fuel line has no pressure and no gas comes out while crank new crankshaft sensor starter and altnator is good both tested any ideas thing is driving me crazy new battery too and strut

I have replaced 3-4 of those computers in Chryslers in the past few years. And I really dont work on many Chryslers. Ebay has some sellers that sell remans, they program them to the vin. I still have to bring them to the dealer for a key programming though.

i had one awhile back do the same. it had only one coil driver bad. I disconnected the coil and t pined at coil driver and used a test light to look for a flash/pulse. one did and one didn't. Replace computer and the wire from computer to coil. there was something about the ohms of the one wire to the coil was why I replaced it.

mine came in with a two cylinder misfire. Mine would run bad but it would run. it would only fire on one side of the coil/2 cylinders.

This is so ironic. I got a 2009 Charger 3.5L for a no start in the shop right now that I started looking at this afternoon. Battery was dead, so no codes. I watched RPM pid while cranking and zero rpm. Every once in a while cranking the engine would pop, like it wanted to start and at the same time the RPM pid showed rpm for a split second. Scoped the cam and crank sensor signals at the PCM and had good signals. Scoped a fuel injector and had injector control. Doesn't have ignition coil control , just like yours. This one is COP system. I am suspecting the PCM and was getting ready to look at reference wave forms for cam/crank sync tonight when I got a notification in my email for your video. I just can't believe how ironic this is and how close we are in our troubleshooting techniques. Your video is also making me feel better about condemning the PCM. Thank you. I'll pop by in here and update if you like.

I hate condemning pcms. Lots of variables. Not too often they go bad either. It Was Tough enough to see two drivers bad. having 6 go is odd. Does ur scan data show a cam sync pid or something similar?

+James Danner I didn't check the sync pids. I read somewhere that they are not reliable, so that is why I wanted to compare my waveforms to known good. It just seems so odd that I have injector control, but no coil control on two of the coils I was able to get to. I should ramp all the coils and injectors to actually see if all the coils are not being controlled. Just odd that the rpm pid shows nothing then every once in a while I'd get some rpm number showing and the engine would fire for a millisecond. Another shop had it for a long time and couldn't figure it out, so now I'm under the gun...lol

If u r at the pcm u could just make sure u have 12v at all the coil control wires. That and check the amplitude of the crank waveform . I've seen them have a good clean waveform but not high enough voltage . Kinda like the gm abs sensors that drop out under 8 mph or so. Is it a hall effect square wave or ac sine wave?

+James Danner Both cam and crank signal are digital and peaking at 4.9 volts and hitting ground floor even with the starter loading the block. I know what your talking about with the reluctance sensors not generating enough amplitude. Had one eat my butt on a 5.4L before. Definitely going to check coil ground control at the PCM as you suggest. Even spent some time and inspected the coil harness to make sure Micky mouse was not having lunch. I was going to do more, but the thing is outside the shop in the parking lot with a flat tire and it started sprinkling rain, so i quit and went to the next intermittent stalling mitsubishi heart ache. I'll have to tell you about the Dodge Durango PCM losing it ability to clip off the primary coil voltage spikes some day...haha. That one almost put me in the nuthouse.

LiL Jimmys playhouse sounds good very funny bit I have seen some controllers having only one transistor shared for two drivers probably took one shared transistor out we're lucky we a get pin label would be nice to get internal controller diagrams

hello, your video is very interesting, I have a problem with a Journey 2.4, the engine was changed and it didn't want to start anymore. The computer was changed and a new RFHUB was installed, the key was reprogrammed, etc. The security system light turns off, the engine turns etc. It even has sequenced pulses of fuel injection pump on (asd relay on) but... there are no pulses in the coils. It was verified with an oscilloscope intake cam, exhaust cam and ckp. Everyone seems to be fine and on time. Interestingly in the scanner (Launh pro) data says Cam Sync: Out of Sync, Crank: Out of Sync and aEngine Speed: 0rpm. Any tip would be very apreciate Best Regards

since its the same relay I took the horn relay out and it didn't work I'm thinking my computer is fried as I tested just about everything else

In Poland everyone can buy immobiliser bypass devices without any government permissions. For 1995-1998 VAG cars with immo fault/lost key many people installs $25 immobilizer emulator. In later VAGs, immo can be turned off via OBD connector using $50 tools. VAGs until 2004-2008 have easiest factory immo to bypass.

Not sure. Computer grounds were good. The asd relay supplies power to the pcm and to the injectors and coils. I suppose a bad coil shorted allowing unchecked voltage to go strait to pcm with no resistance thru a winding. But all that was replaced before I got it.

From what the programming guy said . The skim generates the Vin number and is not programmable. So programming still needs done. He said it was possible to screw up somehow and lock out the skim ,then that needs totally replaced .but not sure of scenario. Hopefully someone else reads this and tells us how it really works

+James Danner Chrysler antitheft compares the VIN in the skim module to the VIN in the pcm; if they are the same then the car will start; you can rewrite the vin in BOTH modules, the pcm as well as the skim ( the skim is reprogramable). So it is possible to put a used skim module into another car as well. As you stated you will need the pin of this skim to gain access to rewrite the vin number. It is possible to read an eeprom inside the skim module (in this case an 24c02) and get this pin code directly, or even write directly the desired vin into this memory.... Nowadays there are advanced tools that willread out the pin number by obd II, might wanna a look at the AVDI tool to get an idea what I mean

I lost the key to my pt. had a locksmith program a new key. a weak later I was driving. n it just quit. replaced the crank sensor cam sensor still no spark. fuel pump on. help plz. been walking my kids to school.

U can bring it out of the lock mode manually by leaving key on for an hour it takes 60 minutes but without programming it wld just start stall again, this piece of info is useless to you however unless u have a customer that used a key to start it that they had made at a hardware store with no chip u can avoid the dealer by doing that.

+Tristan Williams I'm not sure exactly what your symptoms are as far as spark and fuel. There is an asd relay and fuses for power to coil and injectors. As far as the blinking light.. it usually means it's self monitoring isn't completed. Like codes were cleared or battery was disconnected
