Jorge A good tip when using the JB weld or any other type of Epoxy Putty is to wet your hands or the putty a little as you mix it and it helps to smooth it out to any shape you need!

If I could like it twice I would do. Once for the saw and once for the gorgeous dogs happily mooching around. So I’ve subscribed instead of the second like. I was using the epoxy putty earlier fixing the guard on my drill press, saved me £20 buying a new one. It’s the first time I’ve used it and I’m very impressed (I’m a newbie). Please may I ask why you didn’t set the saw? Was it already set? Thank you for a great video.

You did a fine job, did you save the etch or was that not a goal? I have the same saw and am thinking about how aggressively I want to polish the plate for exactly that reason.
@JorgeAraujo

Well my saw didn't have the etch left on it... so I didn't have to worry about it, if it did I would probably try to save it. Enjoy your restoration.

If you destroy the etch or sand the blade & handle as Jorge did the 100 yr old will lose all it's value & be just another good saw so might as well use it! By the way Jorge it's still a Great looking saw!

Mucho Bueno!!!! Yea, I know my espanol sucks, but you did great work. Two thumbs up and a pat on the back. I agree with the vinegar bath overnight and then hit it with 400 grit sandpaper. I did a D8 hand saw and just poured vinegar on the blade and then hit it with 400 grit paper. It did wonders!! Saw you broke down and hit the brass with a brass wire wheel. Quick and easy way to brighten the brass nuts. Once you've got the oil dry on the handle did you spray the handle with clear coat? Makes it nice and smooth....Overall, you did great!
@JorgeAraujo
8 жыл бұрын
+96geometro yeah after I cleaned the handle and applied some BLO I used some spray Shellac... I like Shellac because at first it looks shinny but with usage it dulls down. About the Brass nuts I used a wire wheel but its a brass wire wheel which is gentler than a steel one...quick but you have to be careful not to damage the nuts too much. Thank you for your comments.

Great video.You took care to be maticulous and even when faced with some bad drill holes in the saw, you had a good solution, and you clean up after yourself! If you run into a saw with heavy rust, try a total immersion vinegar bath. Has to soak over night. It does wonders.

Its a good working saw and cutting wood is what its supposed to do. Personally, I would not clean all the patina from it because its part of its history and also, from a collectors point of view, it is now lost much of its value. I appreciate other people think differently. Thanks
@doct0rnic

I would disagree, antique wood working tools are more sought after for use rather than for display, 100 plus year old saws and planes are restored all the time for use and hold their value very well.

Thank you and I am very glad that it helped you out. I started restoring for much of the same reasons. 1) I love to learn about the tools. 2) I believe that restoring good old tools gives you an appreciation for the tool itself. 3) Most old tools can be found at a fraction of the cost of new tools and most were made better back then, of course you have to fix them up. 4) it's fun! Thanks for watching and keep watching some fun videos coming up!

Hi Jorge! Excellent restauration, it looks better than new! You can now sell it like an antique, that said, if you love tools half the way I do, and I guess you probably love them more ;) you would keep it for yourself!!! I do not know if you follow Paul Sellers, if you don't and you like to use hand tools, he is an excellent resource. Some time ago I saw a video about saw sharpening that I thing you might find of interest, he has a progressive teeth angle for rip saws that make it easier to start the cut. I pass you the link, let me know what you think, cheers! Daniel kzitem.info/news/bejne/tndrqp2ufpOSiKQ

Daniel Vilarino Thank you... I had a lot of fun and you are so right I will be keeping this saw for myself...LOL! I I did see the Paul Sellers video and what I did was file it all the same with the final cut he shows and I figured if I didn't like it that way I could add the progressive pattern to the front after. But so far the saw cuts really easy so for now that will work.

I wish I were as competent with hand held tools, with the lathe I almost never have the opportunity to hone my "talents" y you can call it that Ha, Ha, Ha! Some day, my friend, some day, when I retire, probably, still a few years for that :) Take care mate! Cheers! Daniel
