I'm running HotShot, '19 Ram HO Cummins, 44' airride flatbed. 30K lbs (can scale 21K lbs) I average 12 mpg empty, between 6.5 - 7.5 mpg loaded. Averaging $2.50 - $3.50 mile. Miss the comforts and storage space a big truck offers. Thanks for sharing your experiences and doing so honestly & responsibility. Unlike the countless "how to get rich being a HotShot" videos out there that use clickbait for revenue.

Thanks! And honestly your fuel, and rates are about what I do on average so it's cool to know that I'm on par with a set up like yours. And yeah I'm not the click bait kind or the "get people hyped" kind. Im just sharing what I know and what I do. Will I monitize in the future? Yeah maybe. But that's if I get that far. I honestly don't care lol

If the lift axle is your ideal set up, what would make it worse about a similar sized truck as yours but with the typical tandem drive?
@LittleBigTruck
2 жыл бұрын
Really nothing would be worse per say. A full tandem is just heavier, hurts fuel a little more and has more wear and tear than a single with a lift. A tandem is good for 34k with 8 tires while I'm good for 30k on 6 tires. Just makes more sense to me

I had the lift axle and front axle upgrade done at Nu-Gen Truck Services in Baton Rouge LA. The bed was already on the truck when I got it so I cant say for sure, but you will probably have to have a bed built or bought and then they could install it. I dont think they will build one. But they specialize in frame work and all that jazz so they are probably pretty good at doing any kind of conversion build.

Are you able to haul rvs with this setup? Like 2x 12footers potentially?
@LittleBigTruck
2 жыл бұрын
kind of. Problem is I don't have ramps or a winch to get a trailer up on to the truck. So I would need to load at a loading dock and have something else push it up on. I can tow one if need be but I really don't want to mess with them since i'm not really set up to haul them in the first place. Kind of a liability thing. But if something comes up for the right rate, then sure I'll consider it.

My truck would require a CDL. A non CDL flatbed will really limit you in terms of how much you could haul. My truck empty is 19,000 lbs which means if it was non CDL, I would have a payload capacity of 7K lbs. Now my truck is heavier than most straight trucks but even with a lighter version, you may only be able to haul 10K at most. Most non CDL straight trucks run 12,000lb fronts and 14,000 lb rears, so you might find your self overloading the rear axle trying to run max weight and staying under 26,000 lbs. A non CDL straight truck is really only good as a box truck running freight in that, but thats not a field im familiar with. I don't know what your business plan is like but you can make anything work if you are smart, so the most I can say is best of luck!

@@u2mister17 i watched the video but i didnt hear where he stated whether or not this was a cdl truck or not. Also, due to the length of the bed, which he said was 25ft, I thought that it could have been non cdl, because the truck I'm looking to buy is 26ft but its non cdl.
