Thanks for all these videos! The info is priceless, man! But I think I missed the info about cleaning both heads. Did you take them to some shop to clean? How much was it and how do I find the right shop? I'm in Seattle-Tacoma area.

Thanks for the feedback. I take my blocks and heads to a local machine shop. I live in the north Phoenix area in Arizona. They charge me around $300 for a complete service. Which includes: compression check, spring pressure/strength, tear down of the head, new valve seals, clean the heads completely, diamond cut them/resurface them and give it a coat of paint. When I get them back they look like new heads. I do this to all the heads for all my customers.

I found that there is a difference in the intake cams so if you mix them up you will not have compression

I am pretty sure there is. It is a good practice to always put back the part where it goes even if the other side is the same part number and fit fine. I never swap them. And most of the cams dont mix and match. Specially on 4 cyl with dual over head cams. I am very picky about stuff like that

How much does a job like this cost for the same sienna?
@hoss2200
2 жыл бұрын
Right now I am not sure. Price on the machining went up like crazy. The lowest they charge me for a 4 cylinder old school cast iron is $190. Now for aluminum heads is more expensive, plus the head gasket set with bolts, fluids and labor (about 16 hours). I wild guess would be around $2400 here is Arizona

Thinks for watching my videos. Not sure what the question is, but this is the order you should proceed... At least the idea. *Once you have removed all the components in front of the engine (serpentine belt, brackets, hoses, timing belt, cam sprocket, etc...), remove the -upper and lower intake -exhaust manifolds -cam caps - cams - head bolts*** practice"detorquing" (loosen the headbolts about 1/8 of a turn in sequence. Then 1/4 turn. Then removed them completely - lastly, remove the heads

Hoss, may be a dumb question from me,but don't you think 40 lb Plus 90 degrees is too little for a metal gasket?,I know that Manual say that.thanks in advance for your response.
@hoss2200
3 жыл бұрын
It might not sound right but if you can, try to torque any bolt after certain degree, it might take a few time before you get to turn the bolt a bit before the torque wrench clicks. For the 40 ft/lbs +90 degrees, its about 85 ft/lbs or so. Remember to turn the 90 degrees without stopping, if you are using a gauge for degrees

Not sure where you live, but here in Arizona, I get it from my local machine shop. They have their own warehouse. Also autozone has them too. Now, if you live in Phoenix or any city near Phoenix, you can buy it at "penny pincher" where most mechanics go. I nor.ally go to the dealer for that brand or my local warehouse

Nice series of vid Hoss. Question though. Did u put the service bolt on the exhaust cam gear? I did a HG job on my sienna too but forgot to put the service-bolt before removing the camshaft. Now that I put the timing belt and all I remember the service bolt thing 😩.
@hoss2200

Thanks and I didn't use any of that. Some cams have a six sided area for a wrench so you can put the cam in the right position by turning it from this area. Also all the cams have markings and it is really easy and simple the put it back on once the head gets completely disassembled

Sorry for not posting the other videos, I got the van running. Also, ran out of space on my sd card. As far as the block, Honda vtech aluminum blocks need to be resurfaced(machine shop) this block on this van is cast iron, I have done this on most cast iron blocks

Hey sir I'm just doing my 06 sienna and i followed your steps but I couldn't see info on the rear head for the cams so i did some research of how to align the cams and it said align the cams to match the "2dots"on each cam and when i tried to install the camshaft gear is ways of from the mark ,am I missing a step ?
@hoss2200
3 жыл бұрын
The cam gear doesnt come off unless you are swapping the cam. Not sure if you are talking/referring to the cam sprocket. The best way to put a cam in vehicles with over head cam set up, is by having the lobes pointing upwards and the round and even surface down touching the lifters / valve springs. This is of course if the pistons are at top dead center (all the way to the top) this is the first cylinder by the firewall. Let me know if this helps please
@hoss2200
3 жыл бұрын
Almost forgot. You still have to line up either the single dots or the two dots on each cam gear besides checking the lobes position. I had the single dots facing each other on bank 2 (radiator side)
@luissbclozano1698

I did head gaskets so I had to remove the cams and I marked them but machine shop wash them all up ( I know I shoulda marked them by scratching) the bank facing the radiator I got them align by the single dots and the timing was just perfect but the bank facing the firewall is 180 degrees off ,I saw that you set the crank 60 degrees btdc and turn the cam to timing mark but I dont know if it will be the right way

Rebuild these engine is not worth it. You'll never get timing and power back to it original. Get low mileage about 60kmi JDM it only cost $1k+delivery. The Japaneses built 3.3 engine is far more superior over US built 3.3. This is why 1st & 2nd gen Japanese Highlander with over 500kmi still run like new. US-made Sienna lucky if you get over 200kmi. US-made 3.5 Highlander 3rd gen is prone to problem similar to Sienna. Buy a hydraulic lift-ramp from AMZ and hydraulic table-lift from HF so you can remove/install these engine in 2-3 days. You can make so much money in so little time and not hurt your back. Most JDM supplier will install for about $1k+
