The Black Hills are known for creating their own weather, and Wednesday was a prime example of orographic influence in action. A corridor of storms developed directly over the central Black Hills and trained to the east-southeast, prompting a flash flood warning for Rapid City and areas surrounding Rapid Creek. Several inches of rain fell in just a couple of hours as the storms dumped rain and small hail over the same area. This timelapse captures the storms from their developmental stage to downpours.
