Great video. Thanks for taking the time to record this process. tho i think i'd rather take my bike in to have this done. especially if it turns out needed actual adjustment. I feel more confident knowing a trained tech is doing the job right, now thats a chore in itself, finding a good tech!!!

Great video. Thank you for making the effort. Can I ask what other work / opportunity exists whilst all this stuff is out on the K6 750 at the same time as the valves are being checked?? Did you have the shim kit in readiness in case you needed to replace any shims? Do you decide to replace the shims if the clearance is close to the upper or lower part of the tolerance band (but still within the band)?? Cameron

Not much other stuff was done. I cleaned the engine up while in there. I installed the APE CCT, but I didn't need the valve cover off for that technically. It calls for it, but I could have gotten away with out taking it off for this job. You could do the pair valve mod or any other mod that requires being in the engine compartment, but normally all it takes is having the air box off. Not the throttle bodies. I did not have a shim kit ready. I would have ordered one if it needed it. I would only replace shims if it was out of tolerance. Not at the end of the spectrum. It only took an hour to get in there.

I would only replace shims if the valve clearances were out of tolerance. Not at either end of the spectrum. Last spring I checked my other bike and the exhaust side far right clearance was right at the limit. I didn't replace them and checked this spring and it is still at the same spot within tolerance. I put about 5,000 miles on it over that year. I will check again next year.

OK thanks. I must try these checks on my K6 750. Recommended brand of feeler gauges and recommended size of feeler gauges? Cameron
@dhope6677

Cameron Hird Any brand is fine. I like the ones that allow you to unscrew the gauges from the holder. You need these sizes below. Valve clearance (when cold): Standard: IN. : 0.08 - 0.18 mm (0.003 - 0.007 in) EX. : 0.18 - 0.28 mm (0.007 - 0.011 in) So in inches: .003, .004, .005, .006, .007, .008, .009, .010, 0.11

HI David. I notice your forks are gold coloured. My K6 750 have black coloured forks. I wonder why they are different coloured forks? DO you have the the 06 750 or 06 600? I am hoping my forks are stock, otherwise i hope they have not been changed out. :-( Cameron
@dhope6677

Cameron Hird The 06 07 600 and 750 are pretty close to the same bike except the shocks, engine, ecm, gauge cluster, and damper. They would all work in the other bike except the ecm though, so they are interchangeable. I have an 06 600 and an 07 750. 600s come with gold shocks and the 750 with black ones for the 06/07 years. Yours are suppose to be black like my 750, I was working on the 600 track bike and they are gold.

@dhope6677

Cameron Hird The RPM range is different between the 600 and 750. The 600's RPMs have a slightly higher peak RPM. Also you should check out gsxr.com. I am a member there and there is a wealth of knowledge on there. You can simply search topics/threads or create your own.

jon miller I can confirm that you do not have to take the throttle body off. I was able to do it on another bike. It did make it slightly more difficult to remove the valve cover. Measuring the clearances was a little more difficult because you have a bad angle next to the STPS and the throttle cables. Also putting the valve cover back on was a little more difficult when trying to keep the gasket seated because of the limited space. For the 2 extra screws (4 in this case), I will continue to take it off as the manual says

@@BeanieBiker_AutisticRider yea and suzuki so smart that they mounted the RR behind the radiator on the 06-07 models. Cause major damage to your electrical system when they fry being behind the radiator, they already run hot . Smart huh?

@@ChrisRon1k to be fair a lot of manufacturers do this, Triumph did it on the Daytona 675 06 - 08 model, I burnt out two before moving it myself, and my Suzuki GSXR K1 1000, the RR is located on the rear tail frame behind the fairing, depends what year and model

@@BeanieBiker_AutisticRider yeap, my cuzin has the 04-05 model and there RR was mounted on the rear left tail. Smfh.. when I first bought my K7 I relocated it there after the RR fried being behind the radiator, but than I realized it wasn't safe there either, it's still not able to breathe and get cool air or any air at all for that matter being tucked behind the tail. Than I bought a bracket along with the MOSFET RR from roadster cycle and mounted the RR on the side of the bike upfront near radiator. Haven't had issue since. I didn't know bout the triumph mounting there RR behind the radiator as well? Smfh.. I don't understand what the hell they were thinking. I mean how hard was it to think.. hey let's mount the RR on the left side where it's perfect. This is your electrical system for Christ sakes, can cause major damage. Suzuki takes the L for that . Not smart at all bro. You know where I'm talking bout right? On the K6-K7 models?. I also know a fella who had his batt damn near explode on him on his ride from his RR fried from being behind the radiator. It was nasty. It's hard to believe that when they did this that they didn't think about any of these possibilities happening But lord oh almighty did I go thru hell when my RR fried being behind the radiator, I had to replace stator and Batt and the harnesses. 🤦🏼♂️

@@ChrisRon1k had to replace my rectifier on the gsxr last year because of a drop, it had damaged the piece with the impact on the left side of the tail, got another from a junkers yard for £25 which had me back on the road within an hour, will be even more hard with newer models that are now under euro5 restrictions, from changing parts and moving them around the bike, the older the bike the easier to work on, I can strip my K1 to the nuts and bolts and put her together with no issues, now having to learn new things with my BMW as so much tech in the bike compared to older bikes, more to go wrong, especially with things like the TFT, ABS, fly-by wire throttle etc... we just need to learn and adapt.
