That's refreshing to hear. I bought a 98 c1500 and I spent a good 20 mins underneath it poking around with a screwdriver looking for weak spots when I got it couldn't find a thing. Found out later there was frame rot at the passenger side leaf spring location. I'm fixing that one part, I was worried it was just gonna be less of a vehicle after or it would only last a small amount of time. Mechanics I spoke to seem to be conflicted on the subject one said if a frame needs repaired it'll just happen again somewhere else in a year or two so what's the point... another said it's no big deal. What r ur thoughts? I was thinking of grinding away all the surface rust on the rest of the frame and doing some undercoating in hopes that would not happen. (This is the first old truck I've owned, got it to save on insurance as a classic)

To anyone who doesn't know about the square GM badge......... this badge was put on during a bad time for GM they were struggling to stay afloat so they started pumping cheaper products. Some people started calling it the "Government motors" badge as they were getting funding from our government to help them. Either way I believe they got this badge in 06ish, around the time they put the AFM in these trucks. Overall the quality of the vehicles with the square silver GM badge beside the vehicle logo is not up to par. I've seen so many rust and pretty much all them have AFM issues.

Once the frame is rusted, time for a new (truck or frame). Fixing something like that is just the loss of life waiting to happen on either side.

Yep but in our state they allow it as long as you're fix does not chang the alignment!! Before I even started doing jobs like this I had to make sure of our statute of limitations WI so we would get any backlash from these jobs! So alway always do your homework before you jump into a job like this!

So you caped off the rot. You do realize 5 minutes with a cut off a wheel and you could have eliminated the rot. The frame is still rotting underneath your scrap metal band aid. It’s gonna rot all the way up to welds and the piece you put on will fall if In 2 years. I see it all day will Toyotas.
@mr.goodolboys
Жыл бұрын
You do realize it'd be more then 5 minutes and you would find yourself cutting the whole frame out since the whole frame is rusting genius....seriously if you dont do metal work or any metal repairs then maybe you should start because you would learn why I do IT MY WAY and not your way.....

If you're rich, then yeah, go ahead, but if you're just an average person living off, check to check, then tell me how that will benefit the owner in just trashing it....now they would have no vehicle to get to work and make money....and with this being the only spots bad the only people winning would be the scrap yards that would auction it off and then the next guy would fix it.....Do better bubba do better! 💪🤠🤘
