I have one Aimpoint, a very old Comp M2 that I got back in 2014 from a friend who passed away a couple years ago. He had no use for it so he sold it to me for a very low price. I had it sitting in a box for all this time until it found a home on my PSA Jakl. I know random comment. I like the optic, I miss my friend.

Very good point about the lifetime warranty on the Holosun. If you break it during the course of your duties, just get a new one. 👍🏾

You nailed it, a lot of the Red dots out there that look super similar, have the housings machined and manufactured in China. What you end up paying for after that, is QC, features, and the name on the side basically. That's not to say the Aimpoint and Holosun are the same, but just to agree with you that of all the dots currently in production, a lot of them are very, very similar.

The achiles heal of budget dots is the mount and bolts. Toss them right in the trash and get something from Midwest ind or scalarworks or arisaka etc and get new fasteners from Fastenal (usually can't find the correct cap-screws from hardware store)

That’s very true. We have had screws walk out on us before which sucks. Maybe it’s on me for not loctiting enough
@5jjt

@ElliottDelp I say this every time Loctite is mentioned, and that is certain formulas from loctite need to be used w/ Loctite's own primer--if the metal has a coating of any kind. Loctite cures by taking elemental bonds from the metal. So, any coating blocks this from happening. Loctite's primer has small bits of copper to help the loctite, being used, to cure properly. Some formulas don't require a primer, but one should check, otherwise it is a roll of the dice. Or, you could just switch to VC3 and forget about primers.

How do these compare against the cheapest dots that I've seen from Monstrum? I know you've made monstrum reviews in the past, they are the only ultra cheap non sketch dots I've bought and used, but spending the amount some of these dots and other sights cost just dont seem to make that much sense to me (like, I really dont want to put 1000 dollar LPVO on my 1000 dollar rifle?) but they are ultra cheap even compared to these, seem to work great for the limited use ive put on mine, and I always wondered if even 250 got me a significant jump in quality or if Monstrum was still bang for my buck.

My only complaint is the dot could be more crisp and those with astigmatism will see starbursting of the dot on higher brightness settings

Acog is an excellent scope, the thing is bullet proof and battle proven. That being said, a good red dot and magnifier is going to be a more suitable combination for most people. You get the fast target acquisition and keep some range at the same time. Acog is fixed magnification and the eye relief is pretty awful, with a lot of practice you can master it. I use an Aimpoint comp m5s with magnifier and I could never go back.

Enjoyable video, thank you for making it. There are three things that matter when it comes to red dot sights; emitter, glass, and warranty. A few years ago everyone was bent on buying an Eotech holographic sight because that's what the military used so it must be the best, right? What is completely overlooked by this mentality is that Eotech's are only expensive because of the QC standards they have been forced to meet due to their military contracts. Most of us will not be subjecting our red dot to extreme temperature, humidity and pressure swings, dropping them to the ground while fast roping from a helicopter, or dips in salt water followed by blowing hot sand into it. This standard is what you are paying for. Excluding the "cheap" red dots you mentioned, there are many economical offerings that offer fantastic clarity, minimal paralax, reasonably durable glass and great warranties for sometimes well under $500. I have owned Aimpoint, Eotech, Trijicon, Holosun, and some crappy sights I will not mention. Aside from not being as sexy as the others, the Holosun will absolutely go toe to toe with them in terms of realistic use. The others are 70% more expensive but are only 10% better.

There is no comparison between an aimpoint and a holosun red dot. Sure -- holosun if you only larp sure or if you only shoot 100 rounds a month and don't take training serious - or value you or your family's security and wellbeing -- or care about reliability or durability. And if you are a complete broke boy -- sure buy a sh#$ optic for your fighting rifle. OTOH - if you care about reliabitlity and durability - and your safety -- an optic that will not fail even under the harshest conditions - then there are better options so save your money until you can buy a durable and reliable optic like an aimpoint, elcan, trijicon, etc.... But to suggest that there is no difference between the two - just demonstrates ignorance - willful or unintentional - Its almost irresponsible to suggest one does not need the 'best' optic -- to suggest buying a throw away optic is a legitimate best practice in outfitting a weapon -- is an odd stance to take. Why does this channel keep pandering to the poor broke boys? NO -- cheap garbage low budget gear is NOT the same nor does it perform in any way close to high budget, top tier gear -- so please stop acting as if they are equal. I have met others over the years that say - oh - my vortex sparc is the same as your overpriced aimpoint -- and those same guys have optics that shit the bed in a 2-4 day high round count training session... I guess people have to learn the hard way -- I have spent less on my high quality gear than any person I know that keeps buying their trash low cost gear... The only people that buy low budget gear are broke boys. Stop being a broke boy.

My SIG Romeo and And My Holosun have thousands of rounds of abuse and in the harsh high desert with extreme cold and heat. Never failed, never lost zero. They have been wet frozen muddy etc.. many rabbit hunts, coyote hunts and training. Yes an Aimpoint is better but to act like these are not viable options is a dick move.
