The next week Cleveland visited Pittsburgh in the divisional round. I was 12 and it was the first playoff game I ever attended. It was actually a great game and the the Steelers prevailed in the end. The Steelers hosted the AFC Championship game the next week and I attended that game too, but Stiller fans don’t like to talk about THAT game.

Not that Pittsburgh would have had a chance against the 94 Niners had they made the Super Bowl. That 94 San Fran team doesn’t get enough credit for how good they were. In my mind they are a top 10 all time team. But the lack of respect for them isn’t unusual because Steve Young in his prime was one of the greatest QBs ever. In fact (and I know this statement is controversial to say the least) I’d take 90’s Steve Young over 80’s Joe Montana any day.

@@pathutchison9866 Uh they are not even the best Niner team of all time. They are behind the 84 & 89 teams. NFL Network ranked them 17th. They were good but other teams were better. They likely beat Pittsburgh but not by 23 points. Ironically The 95 Steelers would've been a better match up for them due to the addition of Kordell Stewart and the use of the five receiver sets

This was the first playoff game I was able to watch of one of my Boston sports teams.....think I was 8 years old. The 90s were just the beginning with the Pats making the playoffs on multiple occasions, including a Super Bowl berth. The Red Sox making the playoffs in 95', 98', and 99', I believe? Also the Celtivs made solid playoff runs with Paul Pierce and Antoine Walker....making the Eastern Conference Finals against the Nets in 1999? I remember being psyched just to make it. I'm glad I went through the losses as it made the championships so much sweeter.

Damn I miss this. When NFL Prime Time was REAL. Not the garbage they give us now. It used to start around 7 when the 4 o’clock games ended and went right on until Sunday Night Football started at 8:30 on the same channel. Berman and Jackson were a great team too. One thing bad about The internet is it ruined Prime Time. Now all we get are opinion segments where idiots in the mold of Stephen A. Smith and Max Kellerman argue with each other about dumb stuff and you can tell that they don’t really disagree on everything. They just know that if they agree too much people won’t watch cuz Idiot rants and arguments are the only reason that anyone watches at all.

It's also great to see sportsmanship between two teams who have players and coaches with long histories on both sides! (Parcells/Belichick, of course, but the assorted players on both teams who were with the Pats and Browns at one point or another--Matt Bahr, Harlon Barnett, Pepper Johnson, Carl Banks, etc. Testaverde would later play for the Pats and Willie McGinest would later go to CLE).

Love the fake punt at 1:32. Parcells LOVED this; he had the one from Bahr to Gary Reasons in the '90 NFC title game. BB had the same trickery with the Browns later, albeit with a fake field goal from Hansen to Slaughter against the 14-2 Redskins. They lost that game but kept it close for some time due to the trick plays!

Sad game (For Parcels) ... New England faced Cleveland during the regular season - Lost, but it was a better game. This game Coach Parcells decided to bench starting running back Marion Butts, and ran Corey Croom .... Parcells was pissed at Butts - thought he made him look bad, much of the season, this and that .. But it was New England's horrible and weird run-blocking that was usually the problem. Result, of running back change? Pats *lost* . Corey Croom ~ Long run - 13 yards, 3.5 average yards per carry. Marion Butts, in Cleveland game week 11 ~ Long run - 13 yards, 3.44 ave. ypc! .. Statistically no different. {Source: Pro Football Reference, game logs} - But Marion Butts was always a goal-line threat. Parcells was an a__hole, benching Butts. It was a punishment ... Essentially for Marion having the preseason knee problem .. and subsequently losing the mobility, he did lose (Compared to 1993 with the San Diego Chargers). (but, as I said at the time put him behind the Dallas Cowboys' line? - He woulda had at least a 900 yard season .. and way better ypc average.) \ Cleveland played well, this game ... with some good passing and great catches 👍
