Hank and John, I love your Podcast and the knowledge and strength that it brings into my life every week. Thank You! I love Dale Sturm. He has been my friend and exemplar since we were Deacons together in Thousand Oaks. As he has for the past 50 years, Brother Stum continues to teach me by word and example. Keep up the great work John, Hank, and Dale!

I loved the picture of Pres. Nelson vacuuming his house during the pandemic to get the house ready for Sunday...the first time I saw it was in a social media group of single men and women, and not everyone in the group, but plenty of people, were starting to argue about what this picture indicated of the roles of men versus women or husbands versus wives, and arguing about "whose job it was or wasn't" to do things like clean your house or take care of your household, and perhaps especially when you're "an important person"...and as someone whose dad has seven kids, and whose sister-in-law's father has 13 kids, the immediate thought that came to mind when I saw the picture was nothing about men/women or husband versus wife at all, but rather, "This is a man who is a father of 10." That picture alone would prove it to me. :) Fathers of 10 kids have no illusions about what is or isn't their job. I loved President Nelson speaking at some broadcast celebration soonish after he became the prophet (the June Be One celebration maybe?) where he was at the microphone on stage surrounded by children and families and in the conference center with several thousand audience, and he said, "Now this crowd is starting to be the kind of size I always wanted to have as my family." Those who become like God really value people, and family, and serving them, and they don't spend any time on "what is my job?" etc. That's just not how their minds are working. (...And as a single, I dare state that in my looking for a spouse, I look for--not the person who would stop the discussion at "what do you think of the roles of men or women?" or "This is the kind of spouse I will be, or What kind of spouse will you be?"--but rather the person who sees the whole story as including children and family and generations long past a wedding and beyond a marriage. Having that long of a perspective is what makes the best perspective for a relationship between spouses.) Anyway, I know Paul and Pres. Hinckley had the same perspective as Pres. Nelson when it comes to serving and "just getting the needs met and the job done" whether at home or in the Church.

I was so blessed to meet missionaries in Iowa Iowa city mission that brother Sturm was serving as the president. Even more blessed- my third prompting I ever had was to ask him to perform my baptismal ordinance. I love learning from him and his wife Val. Thank you for having him on my favorite podcast, I hope to see more of him with you two!

We know Dale Sturm as Bishop Sturm back in West Jordan. I remember when he spoke in church, we would grab a paper and begin taking notes as fast as we could. Today is no different. Dale Sturm is a master teacher. Oh how we love the Sturm Family! ❤️

The only missionaries I remember by name were Elder and Sister Tanner. They were on their mission in Germany in the early 1950’s, and converted my parents! We loved them! It was not easy in those days in Germany, especially in a very catholic environment. We were very few, and my parents lost a lot of really good friends. I still thank them every day for their testimony! Thank you for this lesson! ❤🇨🇦

For some reason I kept tearing up. I am so happy to understand Paul better and better through these podcasts. I’ve somewhat resisted reading Paul’s epistles because he has come across to me as overbearing. I’ve been confused by the things he said about women and their place. Thank you for opening my eyes to a completely different view of his personality and the circumstances he was addressing in his letters.

As a kid, when I heard my dad tell me the story of Paul and then summarize some of his teachings on family home evenings, I just couldn't make an emotional connection with him (to be fair, as a kid, I didn't really have any emotional connection with anyone who was a current apostle too). I was very surprised as a 13 year old how in seminary, much more than studying the gospels and Jesus, who I already knew plenty about and liked fine at that age :) , it was learning Paul's epistles that taught me about Christ and Gabe me a testimony of Him...which made me soften a tiny bit toward Paul himself. It wasn't really until I read the New Testament in 2019 Come, Follow Me that I could really see Paul as the "perfect kind of church leader" to be in the position of someone like is described in the end of 3 Nephi and 4 Nephi--a person who understood the Lord's goals for His people in order for them to become a Zion; those Church leaders were of course in the Old World, but I see the intent and spirit of such people better in the description of the society and the disciple leaders in the Book of Mormon. So I felt more kindly toward and understanding of Paul after that, as I did have my own worked-for emotional connection with the Three Nephites and their cohort of leaders. But it's been in the last couple years that I have come to feel that Paul's way of seeing things and explaining things really seems pretty similar to Elder Uchtdorf in spirit, and of course it's easy enough to see why many people would feel fondly about Elder Uchtdorf; and I have also seen over the years that Elder Uchtdorf seems to be one of the most common current apostles to use and explain Paul's words, so I think maybe he does feel an affinity for the same kinds of things that Paul teaches in a personal way. It's cool to see, and I feel like I've almost gotten a personal introduction to Paul that way.

This is being added to one of my top lessons for the year, though they are all amazing. Thank you so much! Hearing Paul's emotional and tender words reminds me of the kindness we need as followers of Christ. We are always aware of what we need to do more and differently, but God reminds us, through His representatives, that we are heard, seen, loved, and never alone.

Speaking of the people who are hanging around and not doing anything productive...Brigham Young's daughter told how he would send "Church leader people" (whoever had whatever stewardship for this kind of thing) down to the government buildings in Salt Lake to men who were spending time hanging around the place because they didn't have any daily work they were terribly engaged in and they thought their daily business should/could be hearing the news of the day at the civic buildings...and Pres. Young told the leaders to call those men on missions :) He said, "If they have time to hang around then they have time to go on a mission."

Love the info on the letters and Acts. Wishing Mormon had been available to abridge the New Testament and add in the letters to the chronology. lol. Really makes me appreciate his work to make the history of his people more accessible and easy to follow.

After my mother had taken a leave of absence for a few years for having felt jilted at church, upon entering the building, a member chided, "We'll, it's about time you came back!" Henceforth, she never returned to church. My mother, as many other members, is sensitive to such kidding around. We all could stand to be more mindful of our comments to old, new, and returning members who simply want to reconnect with Heavenly Father in his house.
