Big part of the huge price is simply the demand for Guidi leather. Guidi is a tannery first and foremost, they sell to Prada, Rick Owens, Maison Margiela and a lot of "avantgarde" and "darkwear" brands such as CCP, Layer0 etc. Boots from these brands start around 1000 and go up really quickly. I would say that Guidi caters mostly to the customers of the above mentioned brands, rather than the typical workwear enthusiast. This, combined with the fact that their operation is not huge, they have to command such high prices just so they dont cannibalize their tanning business.

Another thing that adds (subjective) value to the boots from this brand (and their more fashion oriented sister brand Guidi) is their piece dyeing method. They dye the whole boots in a vat (as opposed to using already dyed materials and then constructing the boot). It makes the color more uniform, because the sole, upper, laces and everything is dyed by the same dye at the same moment. But at the same time, every part of the leather absorbs the dye differently, so this adds more depth to the color and texture. Also, this method slightly distressed the boots and the finished product looks beautiful in my opinion. Unfortunately, the boots they sent you are the undyed version. I would have loved to see the way piece dyeing makes the insides look.

One of the main reasons that veg tanned leather is used for boot linings and foot bed is that chrome tanned leather can cause irritation or allergic reaction on the skin for some people. So, for the interior components they use veg tan. Conversely, chrome tanned leather is more water resistant and easier to dye with a bigger range of colours so it is used more for the outside of items.

@grantc61 I've got a pair of the PNW boots. Jk forefronts They'll adapt to your foot print to a point. No boot will adapt from a 11.5 D into the 11.5 8E that I need. Plus I had to have JK flatten the arch. Even with that and a month of break in the arch's still didn't drop enough and the toes on my right foot were going numb. I took a sander to the wedge sole under the arch and they finally dropped enough. That boot with the steel shank would never break in enough to be comfortable for me. So will they adapt to your feet? Sure unless you have f'd up feet that are odd sizes. My point is for this price they could/should do some fitting. If not you can buy good quality boots far cheaper.

Having dabbled in a few luxury brands like Japanese denim and Italian suits there are people who relish the idea that they do spend premium prices for luxury goods. The entire concept of luxury is that the proletariat can’t afford them but because you work harder, are smarter, are better looking and/or your daddy has billions you buy these as a signifier of your superiority.
@johnnyxmusic

I suppose. Related to that are all the logoed designer items that poor and middle class people buy an order to look like other poor and middle class. people who are trying to look like something other than poor and middle class people. I do think the whole realm of luxury goods. It’s quite interesting… And there’s no doubt that what you’re saying is part of it. But I do think that there is The notion of excellence… And trying to buy the most beautifully executed version of a pair of shoes, or a jacket or a sweater or automobile, or whatever. And generally those things cost a lot of money. They do become status symbols. Most people are not going to be able to experience them. And that’s the way life is. I think that life does show us that it is better to buy fewer pieces of higher quality… Because high quality items tend to last longer, look better, and wear better. Now… How to reconcile that with the fact that there are people who are starving every night? People with no roof over their head… Or the roof is a tent or corrugated metal? I don’t know. But that’s what we do as human beings. We narrow our focus, and we justify our actions.

If i was rich I’d pay $1,300 for this. Sure maybe it’s like 20-25ish percent more than it should be, but this quality, especially considering they are producing only a fraction of the “big guys” are, as far as quantity goes. I wish. This is an awesome boot, and probably will last years, if not generations

And to answer your question “how much should this be priced at?” I’d say 12-13……. They are an up an coming company, and to have this quality… and hoping they are treating their employees right….. that’s probably the cost, if not more. Put this in perspective, I was in San Jose California like 2 days ago fixing my phone. Went to the “Golden Goose” store…….. and just WTF!?!? They wanted OVER $1,950 for a pair of shoes that literally looked like Vans that a skater had worn for a year…. Not exaggerating at all either. It’s just ridiculous
