We are going to be going through all aspects of rebuilding a Gen 1 in the coming months, and am so glad you will be tuned in. Will be discussing cam bearings next. And should be on our way to the machine shop very soon.

I have never seen a pushrod grenage itself and there is NO way a broken rocker arm can get in the valley so why on earth are you slowing the oil from returning to the oil pan?

With an 880 90s block like the orange and black on pictured in the left… do you still run 1/4” plugs? Looks like the two outer plugs are larger maybe 3/8 or so?

The one on the left is a 036 Target Master block from '94. They redesigned the thrust face, but all the plugs are 1/4" NPT.

If you heat up the gasket with you're torch it scrapes off much easier

Spray-on gasket remover works really well on those paper gaskets also. Spray it on, wait the recommended time, and any simple gasket scraper or razor blade will take it off with no excessive force which can scratch the block.

Also buy a Carbide edged scraper. We made one back in 1988 at FEL-PRO Arnie Fox dreamt it up using a snap-on screw driver handle yup just like your super scraper.

Good gravy dude get a 3 inch roll lock disk on a drill and clean those gasket surfaces. Come into the 21st century!
