I just cleaned the turbo on my 2020 Buick Encore GX with 57K miles using CRC cleaning agent. It says it can clean up to 46% of carbon from turbo and valves for GDI engines. I’m not sure how much carbon was removed from my engine but the performance improvement is clearly noticeable. The engine starts and runs smoother and power delivery is also smoother. The only downside to this procedure is the length of time required to perform. It took me an hour to spray the contents of the can into the intake manifold downstream from the MAF sensor. So, I wouldn’t recommend doing this on a cold day or in the rain. Then the engine needs to heat soak for an hour and then you drive the vehicle on the highway for at least 10 mins. However, for that investment in time and about $15 for the cleaner I made a real difference in my engine’s efficiency. I’ll probably do this annually as part of preventive maintenance.

I went through 1 gm turbo and im on my 3rd dorman. The dormans failed at 300 and 900 miles. They are garbage. I got mine when they had a lifetime warranty but i wouldnt buy one now with a 3 year. Not many people take better care of their engines than i do. I had no codes and my lines were all clear and flowing oil and coolant. Im about to sell the car and ive never sold any of my cars in my life and im 44. This is the worst engine ive ever worked on. Chevrolet should be embarrassed. I have a 1.4 sonic when 180k and I have abused the poor thing. It's seen more than 200hp on the stock internals and 150mph a couple times.... I was running a big turbo for awhile. Went back to the stock one. My conclusion is in general these turbos will handle a decent amount of abuse, it's the pcv system failing you need to worry about. If it fails it can and will lead to turbo failure a lot of times. One is by the turbo ingesting oil, two is the bpv solenoid will ingest oil from the vacuum reservoir and fail to control the turbo properly.
