Nice Rich, must feel good man. I am in the process of building a 2018 transit 3.5L eco boost right now. Had 4 oil changes in 72k miles, nothing but a sludgefest. Turbos gone, phasers gone, low oil pressure and knocking. Tore engine down and found #1, #2 and #6 rod bearings spun. The #2 and #3 main bearings were in the process of getting welded to the crank so they had damage on the inside but didn't spin so the block is good. Timing solenoid screens and the turbo oil supply screens completely clogged. Getting new crank, intake cams and valve tappets, timing components, 3 connecting rods, all new bearings, oil cooler, a melling high volume oil pump and a new ring kit for the #6 piston, the lower oil control ring was broken. Should be ready this week, parts have been a nightmare to obtain. Moral of the story is CHANGE YOUR OIL FOLKS, every 5000 miles or less.

One of my mistakes while i was in engine rebuilding class was when i didnt paid extra attention the unit of measure. I was torquing down a thin bolt to 15 ft-lbs. I didn't feel resistance......the values on the digital screen kept fluctuating 12 and 13 then all of a sudden..... *POP----CRACK* the whole class and teacher stopped and looked at me as if i just punched someone. I came to realize that the bolt spec was 15 INCH-LBS. Which it then made very clear to me....🤣

The phasers positions actually don't matter. It's the rear ends of the camshafts which indeed need to be lined up as you've tested with that cam bridge and those should be synchronized only with the accessory belt pulley. It's even logic that it doesn't matter how the phasers are in relation with the other 2 elements, because they have no position sensors anyway, only the advance actuation solenoids which also do not care of nor read the position of the phasers and only apply a given amount of advance.

You're going to have to go back and look at your timing make sure you put all your timing tools incorrectly at the crank stop in the back make sure you have your crank position timing tool set when you torque your crank pulley down make sure both of the dots on the VCT phasers are pointed up and the timing tool fits and make sure cylinder one is at top dead center or just before it and then you're going to have to put the cambrige back on the backside of the cam to lock those in you're going to have to redo your timing

I have an unrelated question. What's the 90 weight synthetic oil life that going in the PTU on AWD 3.7L MKZ & the same oil for the RDU the reason I separated those 2 units is because the PTU PACKED IN 3 SOURCES OF HEAT - I've had 2 guys from my facebook group and a Fusion group have rear differential noise - Ford says not to change the rear until 50k for piece of mind I had my RDU done at 31,000 miles & the oil had begun to oxidize. What does your experience tell you about servicing the AWD Fusion and MKZ. When these cars came out they claimed lifetime fluid for th AWD which my brain said yeah sure.
