When using liquid mask, I find it easier to use a very sharp pointed bamboo barbeque stick & held more like a pen, and put a blob of the liquid into the centre of the panel, and use the tip to run it into the edged. The tip will latch into the edge ( when there is good relief on the clear part ) & guide the liquid to the edges. When it comes to removing the mask it is best to get a fresh scalple blade, and very carefully go around the edges. This will stop the mask pulling the paint off.

Thanks for the Tip Andy ! I think though I'll stick to using it for camo when I need to. Tape isn't that much more effort.

Been a modeller for fifty years and I still love the hobby. It's a wonderful thing to come across a technique that I've never seen (the stippling of the overall wash) - and I'm going to shamelessly steal this idea for my next aircraft build. First video of yours that I've seen and really like the presentation, editing and very subtle musical soundtrack. Lighting and focus are also good, only 'note' I would respectfully suggest would be a little more intonation / lightness in the voice-over. Going to browse your back-catalogue now for more tips and inspiration. All the best from NZ.
@lpjmodels
3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Ian much appreciated, I dont mind a bit of constructive feedback it helps us to improve !. What do you mean about the lightness in the voice? More expression? The wash dabbing was from an inspired moment watching someone doing a sort of dry brushing with a sponge, it was a bit random but I liked how it added another subtle layer to the finish. Many many thanks James

@@lpjmodels Hey James, yeah, I appreciate you may be reading from a script or cue-cards and that's all fine and perfectly understandable... maybe try a more 'conversational' tone, or a more 'matey' style - like we were at Telford or any model show and chatting at one of the display tables. I'm sure you get the idea. All the best.

A good video and I learned a few new techniques even though I've been model making for over 50 years. I agree with one of the other comments that the background music was a little too intrusive. I think that the weathering was done very well however I can't help thinking that on an active aircraft there would be fairly heavy soot staining around the gun ports, to the same degree as the exhaust staining if not heavier. I remember seeing Hawker Hunters at RAF Brawdy in the 70's with fairly heavy soot staining around their gun ports.

I like to use thin strips of masking tape (one to two mm) on the windscreen framework first! It defines the frame and will give a crisp edge after painting. Then, fill in the voids with the masking fluid. Everything peels away when painting is complete! Much better result and easier to touch up!

Brilliant. I just subscribed here. Your attention to detail is amazing. I found that if I mute your soundtrack and instead play Zamfir and his magic pan flute to accompany your build video the effect is ridiculous. So, you know. I don't recommend trying it. Fantastic job! I know how you feel when you pull the masking off the canopy and disaster. I just finished my airfix 1/48 hurricane mk.i . I pulled my making tape off and voila i forgot to paint the fuselage section where the aft main canopy rests. Ok, so remove the canopy and paint it right? It split right in half. Ugh. So I glued it back on and used tamiya smoke to hide the crack. It worked . Sort of. But that feeling when the rest of the build was perfect but you mess up the canopy ..

Great build video, thank you! For masking try the Mr.Hobby Neo R (the purple one, not the turqouise Neo). It has a different agent and it dries as a non-elastic layer, unlike the other masking fluids. What do you use to clean the Stynilrez from the airbrush? I tried the MiG OneShot (which is the same, just rebranded) and it left a very sticky, latexlike coat in the cup and in the hidden areas as it dried. It required hard rubbing to remove, was not willing to dissolve on its own to any of my cleaners.

Thanks László, if I see some Neo R ill get some thankyou. To clean styrylnrez I use VMS airbrush cleaner, takes it right out but with styrylnrez being tricky to work with, once you stop spraying you need to clean it immediately ! Sometimes I'm guilty of leaving paint in a cup but not that stuff lol

@@lpjmodels thank you very much - unfortunately VMS is not readily available here. My best solution yet was a nailpaint remover, but even that wasn't perfect.
