Good thing we're going to rebuild our 05 awp soon. We've never removed the cam chain tensioner (picked it up with 12 miles, kept it 100% stock) it has 230k miles. We've been lucky. Thanks for posting. I'll be using these video on our rebuild.

Great content! The 'fisheye' effect of the camera lense coupled with shadows and the loose fitting gloves make it a tad hard to see the relationship of #1 roller and the notch in the exhaust cam. How far to the left is it?

unfortunately after removing my timing chain, my camshafts rolled clockwise 2 teeth. I then replaced my timing chain. now the timing marks line up on both camshafts but my problem is that the crankshaft sprocket marks are no longer at TDC. what should I do to align the crankshaft and the camshafts?

What if you don’t know where the lifters came from what do I do now. I found a bare head with the parts already taken off and he didn’t mark them which pissed me off and it was the only head I could find locally for a good price

Hi Inhave question, I have an 04 audi a4 1.8t, i have crank but no start.. did a comoression test had no comoression on cylinder 1, 2, 3 (30psi), 4 (90psi).. I checked all other systems everything else seemed fine.. sparkplugs looked bad, but I didn't see coolant and oil mixed or anything.. Not sure if the reason for crank and no start is due to no compression in first two cylinders

Wow! That is very bad.. your piston ring or valves are done. It's time for a rebuild.

HEY AL, engines currently apart rn and I have a question I hope you can answer for me! When installing the cam seal with the new PTFE seals, do I need to use the plastic cone to install? The one I ordered(new PTFE) didn’t come with it and idk if it was the new style or the older seals that had a spring that would come with the plastic tool. been watching your videos for a while now and they’ve been of great help.
@PincheALsGarage
Жыл бұрын
You can use the plastic cone to install the seal once you have the head completely together with all the CAM caps installed. The 0lastic cone is to help slip the seal on to the cam without causing the seal to fold over

Has anybody here experienced the metal wing breaking on the tensioner, just wanted to do the gaskets then that ended up breaking on us while trying to tension it down we ended up having to break the chain and put a new tensioner and chain on, then after tightening the all of the cam caps and shit and releasing the tension it had broken again, going to have to break the chain again and put a new tensioner and chain in again, I would like to make sure it doesn’t happen again

Is it possible to replace the chain without taking the timing belt off by just taking the exhaust cam caps off and lifting up one side of the cam

@@barnabasbarnabastoth2127 there’s a indicator on both the cams where the chain needs to be set at and you’ll be timed. Good tip is to count each chain link from both cams and it should be 16 links between the two.

I keep getting a camshaft position error on my 2003 1.8T Jetta, and cannot figure out what could be causing it. It has been checked by 4 very good mechanics including myself, and we all concur that the timing is perfectly set. We believe the problem may have to do with the reclutor that the position sensor reads, but there is NO information or diagrams for this part. God I hate this car! Does anyone have may ideas?? Thanks
@PincheALsGarage
Жыл бұрын
Keep in mind if you have a failing cam chain tensioner it will give you this error. It happens because it won't be timing as the car is running it can loose oil pressure in the tensioner and cause timing issues. Timing will look right when the car is off just different when it running
@PincheALsGarage

Another common CAM sensor failure is the pigtail always short out over time. I would check the timing on the cam chain as well. You have 4 spots One on the crank One on the valve cover and cam gear The cam chain One on the flywheel What I do to confirm timing Set the crank and cam gear to TDC and then count your chain links on the cam chain tensioner if they are not on point you will get this cam sensor issue as well
@jf8461
Жыл бұрын
@@PincheALsGarage Those are good tips 👍🏼. Although the tensioner was replaced, I know that N-E-W doesn’t always spell GOOD. And the pigtail short is an idea too; I wonder whereabouts it usually shorts at?
