Application Questions: 1) What areas does my mindset, values, and/or behavior tend to more reflect those of my culture more than those of the Bible? (i.e. Christian unity, marriage and sexuality, personal rights, loving one another, resurrection, generosity, etc.) 2) How can I better walk in the love that Paul describes in 1 Corinthians 13? 3) Are there areas where I try to hide my weaknesses by making myself look better than those around me? How can my weaknesses be uses to show the greatness of Christ (2 Corinthians 11:30-12:10)?

I would like to thank you for these videos that give context in which the bible was written. They are very essential to the understanding of the Bible and to also understand that serving God is not always an easy path as one may think. To see the adversity that Paul had to endure and despite which the impact he had on the Church till this day is remarkable

Good job 🙂 giving context of what Paul was dealing with- both Christians in the church who were putting overemphasis on human teachers, and outside teachers looking to discredit Paul's message.

Acts 20:35b , remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said : " I It is more blessed to give than to receive " . 1 st Corinthians 2:13 !!! These 2 Scriptures describe your excellent videos I believe 👍 The more Christians can understand GOD'S living word ( my owners manual with all the answers ). Pleasing the Father brings peace to my soul 😊. Please keep giving these quality videos and the spiritual wisdom they provide to the world . Appreciation is well deserved , thanks William ☀️

How do you know there's 2 lost letter's
@TheBibleEffect
Жыл бұрын
This is an excellent question Claudia, and I’m glad you asked. In 1 Corinthians 5:9, Paul says, “I wrote to you in my letter…”. This tells us that 1 Corinthians is not the first letter that Paul wrote to them, but must be at least his second letter to the Corinthians. A lot happened between the writing of 1 Corinthians and 2 Corinthians, as we outline in the video. When we read 2 Corinthians, Paul references another letter, in 2 Corinthians 2:3-4, “I wrote as I did, so that when I came… I wrote to you out of much distress and anguish…”, then also in 7:8 Paul says, “even if I made you sorry with my letter, I do not regret it”. Paul’s description of this letter does not fit with the tone and the content that we read of in 1 Corinthians. This suggests to us that Paul wrote a letter between the works of 1 Corinthians and 2 Corinthians. I hope that helps to answer your question. Please let me know if you have any more. Blessings!

great and simple explanation, could you add the source here to have a deeper understanding? thanks

It is always great when people are interested in the sources. For the second video in this series, pretty much everything can be reconstructed using internal evidence from the texts of 1 Corinthians, 2 Corinthians, Acts, and even Romans. Acts 18 describes Paul's first visit to Corinth. Paul references his first letter in 1 Corinthians 4:17 & 5:9. Apollos is described as an eloquent speaker in Acts 18:24 & 28, while Paul downplays his speaking ability in 2 Corinthians 11:6. The Corinthian letter to Paul is referenced in 1 Corinthians 7:1, which is often linked to the report from Chloe's people in 1:11. In the book of 2 Corinthians, he fills in much of the rest of the information for us. He speaks of his painful visit in 2 Corinthians 2:1, which was likely a quick visit, as it is not reported in Acts. He continues to describe some of the painful situation in 2:5-8. The tone of the letter that Paul describes writing in 2 Corinthians 2:3-4 does not fit with the letter of 1 Corinthians, so he must be referring to a third letter. Some think that this letter was later added to the end of 2 Corinthians, and is actually 10-13, though this is debatable. From this we can piece together much of Paul's relationship and interactions with the Corinthian church. As for our first video on 1 & 2 Corinthians, we give much more background information there about the Corinthian history and culture, up until Paul planted a church and left. For that video we extensively consulted multiple scholarly works on the subject. If you are interested I am happy to give you the sources we used for that video as well. Blessings!

@@TheBibleEffect thanks for the replied. for the 2nd part, yes most of it can be seen in the book. i would love to have more understanding on history and background of the culture and people in corinthian church (part1) and the background on why Paul wrote those letter in the first place and to other churches in the other letter. maybe you can also add more explanation, background, source of history, etc in the video description. going to watch the other video as i read the other letter.

@@AG-ew1uk Great suggestion, thank you! In the first part we used a book by Bruce W. Winter called, After Paul Left Corinth, for much of the information. We also used a book by Kenneth E. Bailey called, Paul Through Mediterranean Eyes: Cultural Studies in 1 Corinthians. Both of those works are excellent on the background of 1 & 2 Corinthians. Craig Keener is another scholar that we frequently use, and used here as well. In creating these videos we also consulted works by Leon Morris, Clinton Arnold, Paul Gardner, Colin Kruse, and Hans Dieter Betz. Blessings in your study of these books!
