Amazing! I think that spiral staircase would’ve driven me insane but you really pulled it off! I really appreciate the animation timing breakdown too I usually just wing it but this subdivision made a lot of sense! My dog also barked at the cat so you have Lady’s bark of approval 🤣
@BJGpixel

Hahah thanks, proud to receive the Bark of Approval on this one! And yeah because of the theme, this definitely required those carefully planned subdivisions and rhythms - although the 'winging it' always approach has it's own advantages in other circumstances! 😅

I'd say that breaking from the 1 bit style for the time actually makes sense, considering that it's something that shouldn't really have a physical existence, being a physical piece of time and all. Why /would/ it look like the rest of the world?

Love how the music was synced perfectly to the pendulums movement during the reveal, it's short rest on either end of the path emphasised. The attention to detail is of the charts in this one!

Neat~ Funny that I not long ago posted a "clock tower" piece as well, a 1-bit one at that. I unfortunately did not have the imagination to add more than just a bunch of gears though XD Though yes, I do understand the pain of trying to rotate the gears. Spent so much time on that with my piece, almost to the point of scrapping it. Good thing I didn't though since it turned out pretty nice with my current skill set. I have to say though, the how the dialog sort of just pieces in together and then fades away might be my favorite part about this one. As always, amazing work~ Your Detective Boy series of works are my favorite reference for 1-bit and always a joy to see the process.

So glad you revisited this piece of work! I always thought the original looked pretty intense, in a very cool 1-bit way. I felt that even moreso in this piece, where you took this time theme and really ran with it 😱 The constant moving parts really add to this clock tower boss battle atmosphere too! It's so fitting how such a sense of urgency is portrayed over such few frames; as if there is little time ⏳
@BJGpixel
3 жыл бұрын
Thanks dude, that's a fun way to interpret the frame count into the theme also! I could imagine the animation frequencies changing to show how time is distorting in weird ways in this location, perhaps while Hex is stealing that hourglass 😱🕑

@@BJGpixel Ooo, some wibbly wobbly time animations like that coule look really cinematic too! I think time is just such a cool theme; it's probably why I've been drawn to the Nolan films in particular but seeing it portrayed in unique ways anywhere gets me excited about the different interpretations of it 😁✨

@@CKTDanny Haha yeah totally, that'd be really interesting to see! And yeah I know what you mean - the Nolan films in particular are great examples, especially how trippy something like Interstellar was😮Overall it's a really fun theme to play in and to see used in different ways :D

Dude, that was just so enjoyable to watch. I find these videos so engrossing. I wonder what games on the Spectrum and Commodore would have looked like back in the day if the game designers and developers had Photoshop available to them. The spiral staircase segment of this video is a great example of how you played with an idea over (I assume) half and hour or so while to build the proof of concept for this idea in assembly on the Spectrum would have taken a week.

Constructive Criticism: You need to use references, hun. The gears and turbine aren't very realistic even for a world centered around fantasy and science fiction. You were going for art deco but your gears say bubbly and fun. It's bad contrast. They just don't work. I'd recommend drawing certain things several times in a new canvas before choosing the design you like most and using it in your final drawing. And references. Use references for everything. Please. I can tell when people don't. You also need to practice your shadows. You have shadows on the bottom of the stairs but not on the turbine thing. If you're doing 1 bit, then you need to use the second color to help keep the shadows from bleeding into the background. It's just more aesthetically pleasing and it'll save your butt from people who can't picture the two being separate. I hope this helps with future projects and I look forward to seeing what you do next :D

A good villain for this game would be a Max Headroom type charachter (let'scall him Mike). A glitchy A.I. in charge of both the news and the government.that serves as a dark reflection of the main charachter (let's call him Henry). Halfway trough the game it is revealed that both of them are digital clones of an actor famous for his role as a young detective solving weid cases (much like Henry does that for real) that eventually rose to be the head of media conglomerate ( a position that Mike eventually took). Also, Mike is delusional and thinks he is the good guy of the story.

Although this art style really lends itself to steam punk/cyber punk themes, as well as machinery and gadgets etc, I wonder if 1Bit could be lent into creating a scene with more nature in it, perhaps an outdoor vista or scene? I guess it may be challenging as showing layers in 1Bit can always be tough but I’m sure you’d be more than up to it!
