Strongly encourage you to remove the dowel at the bottom of the birdhouse. predator birds use them to stand on while they pluck the baby birds out one at a time and swallow them! The birdhouse is really cute.

I was so glad to see you building that desk last week. I felt bad when you started spending your money on the typical box store furniture. It truly breaks down with temp and humidity fluctuation. We live in a high desert and that furniture doesnt even last a season. Im so happy for your new adventures. I think definitely spending time on adjusting for practical life in the cabin will make your winter stays more comfortable. Maybe adding a canopy over the door, screens on the windows, waterpoofing mat by front door, a proper place to hang your coat, gloves, expanding your simple meal repertoire, making a stand for your boots to dry out upside down... things that make a house a home ❤

Local saw mills may have defect lumber you can get for free use your planer and sander on the defective wood imperfections etc. hope these ideas are helpful for you. I strongly encourage you to NOT burn your scraps needlessly. I have been so grateful for 15" scraps of perfectly food boards. 1 use was to insulate the front of half metal barrel's cut top to bottom and laid on their side. The sun beats on it in the summer & cooks my strawberries & dries out the soil. Another use for longer scraps was to screw narrow boards to the cut sharp edges. I slipped & fell once onto one but had the foresight of this scenario of falling and getting cut so planted my hand onto the dirt inside. Yours would make nice shelves, storage boxes, small raised garden beds or compost bin, a side table for outside, etc. At the very least I'd use smaller and damaged wood in your stove. Love the first house!

Do you have enough scrap lumber to make a small work shed? Maybe attach it to one side of the house so you only need 3 walls. That way you can do messy work outside your home and wont break things when drilling. I saw someone suggesting trying to find free wood pallets - that might give you enough wood to make a small shed. You could also make a small greenhouse/ shed if you could find old windows being thrown away. You could put a work bench on one wall and use that for making small wood projects or planting . I also agree with others that you could sell the bird houses, especially ones decorated with flowers or any artsy ideas you have. Please don’t just burn the wood - the commenters had lots of ideas. You need to investigate finding free stuff and creating treasures out of trash!

Some open shelves 12-18"or so down from ceiling, the width if a board, all around the cabin will hold a lot of smaller things. Easily accessible. Tidy. Or vertical shelves for either end of the counter for dishes etc. Can't have too many shelves. Forward thinking. Different birds need different sized openings so predators can't get in. The deeper the nest, the safer they are. Find out what the dominant bird is in your area to customize. I'm glad you're using sturdy wood. We had a flimsy one and squirrels destroyed it in an hour. I really enjoy your videos.

Your bird houses are beautiful. You did a great job with the flowers. To me they look like lupine and scarlet pimpernel. Two of my fav mountain wayside flowers. Maybe with the scraps you can make a folding platform to attach to your couch so you can have a way to comfortably put your feet up or even lounge or sleep more comfortably on. Not sure if the back pillows on your couch are attached or not. Or even make a storage ottoman that can serve as a foot rest but also additional seating when you have someone visiting. Maybe make a small narrow cupboard to put in your kitchen to place food or kitchen items away and out of sight while still handy to grab. Maybe build a shallow wall cabinet for basic toiletries and you can paint a design on the front and possibly frame in a small mirror if you have one.

I guess if you're looking for ways to have more storage space, you could use that scrape to make some simple stackable crates. That seems small enough that you don't need long boards, and something that's relatively simple to make without wasting a lot of your filming time you can be using for something else. Hopefully this is a useful comment and not one you've seen 1,000 times. No one knows you're work conditions better than you, and us followers are just living through you when all is said and done. But yeah, some crates might not be a bad idea to get rid of some of that lumber while at the same time creating more storage.

In my day, we would nail bottle caps, upside down, to a board to scrape your shoes, but I'm not sure where you would get bottle caps these days. Maybe you could attach small sticks horizontally to scrape your shoes. 😊
