I'm 82 years old. I grew up brushing daily with baking soda and regular dental visits. I had 5 silver fillings done in my teen-age years. I never had a cavity since. And the truth is I went through the past 40 years of depresson and serious personal issues and I literally gave up dentists and daily brushing. Well, on my 81st birthday, one of my 68 year old silver fillings fell out! I went to a dentist and he said other than the old silver fillings, I had perfect healthy gums and teeth. Go figure! I think following common dental proceedures makes your teeth rot. Eating CRISP, RAW fruit and vegetables, broccoli, celery, cauliflour, cucumber, apples, carrots, and drinking herbal teas every day is far healthier and more sanitizing ... much better than brushing.

As a licensed dental hygienist, I recommend pouring maybe 1/4 cup of baking soda into a separate container and dipping your wet brush into it. I think reintroducing your wet brush into a big box contaminants the box. By the time you use up that big box, it will have quite a bit of bacteria in it. No need to make a slurry out of it, use it right out of the box.

Greetings! I didn't get a notification for these replies 😲 anyhow ... I use baking soda 2 or 3 times a week. If your tooth enamel is thin, I'd be wary of over-using it ... having said that it is used in some commercial products and people aren't aware of it! I sometimes use it plain, but i keep it in a separate jar from the rest of the product in the box. A jar to use as teeth-cleaner only! I also like to use olive oil as cleaner, with the brush and also as a mouth swish. Sometimes I combine it with baking soda. Both are very good for my gum health. If you want to make a natural toothpaste, try this easy recipe: 1/2 a cup of coconut oil with 4 or 5 tablespoons of baking soda and mix together into a paste. Store it in an airtight container/jar. If you want to make a smaller quantity more often try: 4 tablespoons of coconut oil with 2 tbsp of baking soda and add 1 tbsp of hydrogen peroxide and as many drops of cinnamon or clove oil or peppermint oil as you prefer. You can play with the ingredients to make a lesser amount or a bigger amount that suits your needs! The homemade toothpaste is terrific and you know exactly which ingredients are in it! This makes a good product and I like it! Cheers friends 🙂 Btw, I worked as a dental assistant in the past. Dentists truly do get a lot of commercial products pushed at them to promote to their patients/clients. The ingredients of some of those products leave a lot to be desired!

I didn't know what was wrong with my feet. I' awake early one morning I left the TV on. And there was this lady talking about her feet hurting I turned over and began to watch her and listen she was on a program telling about this vitamin that she had been taken, she was talking about how good it made her feel and stopped her feet from hurting, but she said now you can't stop using it cuz you feel better. But you know what I called a friend of ours and ask her if she would please go by the store and pick me up a bottle and bring it to me that day, I also still had sciatica nerve pain real bad in my left hip go all the way down your leg pain, but you know what after about a month or two the pain ceased up a little bit from the sciatica nerve pain my feet got 90% better oh, so I just thought I'd give you my testimony because I listen at you today you are talking about Arm & Hammer baking soda for your teeth. I can see the connection in the watered down baking soda brushing. I envision the effects of water & baking soda cleaning the corrosion starting on my car battery connectors. It stops the acid for sure ! Full paste mode is too coarse on my gum line. So I gargle with it in a small cup , then dunk my tooth brush in and go to cleaning my teeth from the sticky acids at the gum line. I guess everyone should try it and do it the way they want to

I found out what flossing was at 8,didn’t even know how to floss at 10 and my mom sayings scraping your tongue is not for Asians as Asians have a “different” body from Europeans. I love brushing my teeth with baking soda. I often have people to ask me how do I get my teeth so white; and I also hear from others that my teeth look fake… to remove plaque as though I had a cleaning at the dentist I usually use baking and a bit of hydrogen peroxide to form a paste to place on those stubborn areas where plaque try to hide such as behind permanent retainers and it does wonders and when I can get my hands on it I rinse with plax mouthwash that you can get from your local grocery store.

Unfortunately, it can start to deplete/eat away the enamel on your teeth too, causing sensitive teeth. I personally wouldn't recommend leaving it on your teeth for more then the time it takes to brush them. And only using it once a day for a short period or just on occasion. It will help but it will cause damage over time too. 💙

Google search. The RDA value (radioactive dentin abrasion) of baking soda is only 7, whereas toothpastes range from 30 to 200 in RDA, which counters these falsifications against baking soda and its abrasive properties. The RDA value determines how abrasive a product is for your teeth.
@anonnymous4684

Can you explain the mechanism by which it 'eats away' at the enamel? I haven't found anything in the scientific literature that supports this assertion? Also, there are commercial toothpastes that use baking soda so if it was corroding the teeth I'm pretty sure there would have been law suits against these companies by now and it would have been withdrawn from the market.
