I'm the original owner. This car was not in a barn, in our garage. It came with what was called trim rings for the wheels. I put on craiger super revered mags but they were to wide, rubbed on the inside when turning, so settled on Mickey Thompsome slot mags. You people have to realize when I ordered this car, it was 1970, mags were limited kinda unknown. As for what the car was going to cost, info on a 1971 was not available yet, we were going off of a 1970 Torino.0

I would have sold a lung before selling this girl. I owned a 71 GT 429 hard top, green with 3M stripe, and bought her used in 1983 as a senior in HS. Paid a whopping $1250.00 for her. Biggest regret is selling her in 1987. Also had to run reverse offset centerlines due to fender clearance issues as Dawn said.

Hey, Spec! I agree with you on that. Back in the late 60s and early 70s "Mag" wheels were a "must have" on any hot rod from the Tri~5 Chevy's to the pony cars. In a reference to one of your last videos, it was the early Latino car clubs (the Dukes, or the Chicanos) that brought "Baby moon" hubcaps into the mainstream. Along with the Low Riders that is what defines Mexican spec in the car community.

I'm the original owners daughter. Only reason we let it go is because i wanted it restored and i knew my parents couldnt afford it. I wanted to see her restored and enjoyed like she was meant to be..... on my graduation, i had her doing 90 mph in second gear before i decided that i was being stupid... lol. And for the record, she was in a garage, not a barn. Not all garages have concrete floors. And the only reason she needed restoration is because the roof started leaking and because we lived in rural America, by the time we found someone willing to put a new roof on it, the damage was done. Before that, the worst thing wrong was the convertinle top needed replaced because my brother accidentally broke the back window out with a baseball. When a new one was ordered, ford got the size wrong and the new window slowly shredded the top. And those pics are deceiving because that stuff was covering the hole in the convertible top to keep out mice and pack rats

Here's a fact. In 1971 I saw a house in North Carolina for sale. A 3 bedroom ranch style. 1 car carport. 1 bath. $5,000. Less than this car.'s base price. IN A NICE AREA that is STILL nice to this day. Yes, the house looks it's age and it does look tiny. That year - you could buy a new motorcycle (Yamaha R5 350B) with a full tank of gas and two helmets for about $800. You could buy a Volkswagen squareback for under $3,000. And I think my family's black vinyl top gold '72 Oldsmobile '98 w/Rocket V8 455 cost less than this. This car with it's spec was just out of reach for most. ABSOLUTELY a head-turner day one.

Autolite 4200 was the standard Ford four barrel carb, and would have been used on a regular 429-4V. A Carter AFB(aluminum four barrel) was on some of the CJs and in the SCJs it was the Holley. Holleys are best for performance tuning, easily, but drink gas, and take a rebuild more often, but a rebuild is a piece of cake. The Carter AFB in my opinion was the best overall design and least maintenance/rebuild intervals. Strangely enough, when and where the carb was a Carter or a Rochester Quadrajet is a mystery to me. I suspect the Quadrajet would have been a California thing, as they got better mileage, if you could restrain yourself. The primaries were small, which honestly made for better around town driving, tip-in was smoother, and bottom end torque was better, and the secondaries were massive, seemingly the best of both worlds. BUT, rebuilding a Quadrajet is not for the faint of heart, and if left to sit too long or some bad gas could lead to varnish or gum developing on the jet needles, and then it all went downhill quickly. In top tune, a Quadrajet COULD outrun a Holley, same engine. IF you could get the car to stick, and roll into the vacuum which brought in the secondaries, as they were so big it could bog off the line even with the best of tunes. The Holleys are easy to build and easy to tune, and are a racers friend, but hung bowls make for leaks and those same bowls are for weird float set up, and sometimes you have to give it a higher idle speed to compensate. Holleys are designed to make power, period. Rarely on factory cars, and quite a noticeable point when done. The Autolite carbs were, well, Ford carbs, and while they were fine carbs, easy to rebuild, made good power and all of that, they were designed for consistency and to meet emissions standards and fuel economy standards. A Carter is comparable but made more power, decent mileage, but always idled rich. Quadrajets are the greatest all around but the needles gum up if they sit for a year or maybe several months if the gas was cheap or crappy, and as said before, a rebuild is a royal pain. You almost need a jig to line everything up when putting it back together. I’ve given up several times and was never successful. Gave one to a specialist, and it was for a boat. Bolted it in, and it idled better than ever, started every time, and jumped onto a plane like never before. Next season, after sitting for five months, it took a lot of draining the carb by disconnecting the fuel supply and cranking it with WOT, then plumbing in a little gas tank with premium 93 octane, not for the octane, but for the detergents, mixed with some store bought additives of various makes and qualities , and letting that fuel sit, drain, repeat, and maybe three gallons of gas, unlit it would idle right. We used the fuel from the boat’s tank in the lawnmower for the next year, and ran only premium in the boat tank for the summer and then put in two bottles of Sta-Bil and believe it or not that worked. Also some Marvel Mystery Oil carefully poured in the carb while running, just a trickle, helped clean the intake valves, cause you could hear the rocker arms tapping the valve stems with a stethoscope st first. Luckily it being a low compression 8:1 boat engine the valves didn’t hit the pistons, and it was only a few of them, I guess the ones which were closed while sitting, maybe held the fuel which varnished over time. Luckily that stuff on the stems didn’t t tear up the valve stem seals, cause the engine had been rebuilt just before getting the carb rebuilt. No excuse for burning oil.

Likely would have brought more $$ if left as an ORIGINAL "Survivor". IMO, with all that documentation, low milage, original owner then custodial chain etc. Unless it had MAJOR rust issues, engine blown up etc, would of been best just to just CLEAN everything, do only mechanical repairs to make it "serviceable" running, driving, AC working, maybe a new top, = Value UNOBTANIUM $$ .
