I'm a retired electric utility lineman and used these ropes on our line trucks for years, and never saw an eye made in one of these ropes. Very good video.

I have a retired uncle in Tifton Ga. that sounds a bit like you and people always take him for an idiot. They think he's like Goober from The Andy Griffith show, meanwhile he was one of the best structural engineers in his field back in the '70s, I always loved his accent and unpretentious common sense. His teaching style was laid back and based heavily on hands on learning through personal failures. At 14 he started out in steel fab and never forgot that he was once the student that could barely read a measuring tape as a JHS dropout. He's near 90 now and industry people still consult with him, at least the smart ones do, lol. You do great work and are a true master at your craft, I take a lot of pride in knowing our country has folks like you and my uncle in it. I do metal fab because of him btw, not at his level, but I've built some things that will be around long after I'm gone and that to me is a source of joy.

We did a bunch of 2" for the Navy once and had to make fids out of pike pole tubing. I just mark every 5th pair for the taper.

I'm a lineman and have been splicing this type of rope for years. Some good tips I'm going to use next time. I'm always working with old rope so that makes it a little more difficult. 👍👍

I know what your saying, at one time I would do old ropes and repaired alot of ropes on the 4 spool pullers that had 5 to 12,000 feet on each spool, we also would flip the ropes, I still do those but I don't repair the ones you see me splicing anymore due to being tight and just not worth it anymore.
