1 year since the Taliban takeover.
Most of us were born during the war...so we only know the the Afghanistan pre-war through stories of our parents and grandparents.
Last night during dinner with one of India's poets, lyricist, and writer, Javed Akhtar; he shared a story of his visit to Afghanistan with us.
He shared a story of when he was a guest at Dr. Najib's Palace and they had a music night. Dr. Najib played the Harmonie and sang songs for them, so did his brother and mama khosor. He shared few Hindi songs Dr. Najib had sang. And here I was learning of such a beautiful memory about my homeland from legend of an Afghanistan that are only fairytales to us.
The world has forgotten Afghanistan. People are bored and tired of reporting/hearing the news about us. We no longer matter. We mattered for a bit when the T-Ban took over last year but only for a bit. Now that the foreign troops and diplomats are out, our people don't matter. Just another collateral damage.
We are left in the hands of the worst kinds of people. Calling them animals would be an insult to the animal which have more humanity then the Taliban.
What also breaks myself is my Canadian government. I had been all praise of my wonderful country - Canada and the possibilities. I no longer feel at home. I wish our people were treated like the Ukrainians. No excuses just get the people out. The part of land you were born on mattered so much I didn't know until the fall of Ukraine.
Though my fellow Afghan-Canadians and I were aiming for higher than 40,000 Afghans to be resettled in Canada. But after the long battle with the government we accepted the 20k changed to 40k as many excuses were given to us as to why not more.
Then Ukraine went down and suddenly there was no limit. All was welcomed. Though, happy for Ukrainians, it broke our heart at the difference in treatment and preferences.
But life is unfair and our own people are partly to blame. To date we are separated by our provinces/villages/languages/tribes/families/religion.
Instead of looking for similarities, we look for differences.
Together, we are stronger. Imagine 39 million Afghans together... not broken down smaller and smaller.
In the last year millions of thoughts has gone through my mind. Not once did I see us uniting under the same umbrella "The Afghans".
There is only a small number of us that see us all as Afghans. Unless that changes to all of us, we can't fight back or stand for each other or our mother land.
So when you see a mirror today, ask yourself.... Are you an Afghan or a Sunni/Shia, Pashtun/Tajik, your province/village or Afghan. The change can only come with our people accepting that not one is more Afghan than the other... and that our diversity is our strength and we all bring something to the table that can help protect and rebuild our motherland.
But who's there to actually accept that and unit as an Afghan?
Негізгі бет 1 year since the Fall of Afghanistan. Women are prisoners at their own homes. No Education or Work.
