This unibody platform is basically the same as my 2013 Ford Escape with the 2.0 Ecoboost motor and AWD drivetrain. With 240 HP, it is peppy and fun to drive. Now that I have 10 years and 120.000 miles on this platform, it is still very solid. With full synthetic oil changes every 5k miles, the engine still runs strong and uses no oil between changes. Making the body into a light pickup just adds to the utility of a solid platform that I am still enjoying after 10 years.

Great “real world” review. Reviews after time and use with a vehicle are more important to me than the “look what I just brought home!” review. I think a Maverick is my next vehicle. I keep bouncing between it and a used Ridgeline (we currently have 05 and 18 Pilots). I like the increased hauling capacity of the pilot, and well, it’s a Honda. I like the better fuel economy of the Maverick. Looks like it’ll get about 5 miles per gallon more than the Honda. Ultimately, it may depend on pricing when I purchase one in the spring. I think either of them would be an excellent complement to my Silverado 3500 HD. Good fuel economy with light duty capacity for a daily driver, and the old workhorse when I really need to move something.

Great review. If I get the urge to let go of my current ride I may be looking at the Maverick. I used to own an '05 F-150 but wasn't hauling that much with it and it took up a large footprint in the driveway. The Maverick would be more practical in my case for the occasional appliance purchase or hauling stuff to the county dump.

I currently have a 2014 Fusion with the 2.0 and AWD, it works great and the AWD kicks in without hesitation making it difficult to lose traction in any situation. Unfortunately, the 6 spd auto in my Fusion is definitely subpar. There is always a kick or hesitation from 2nd to 3rd and shift time is rather long in general, and it doesn't like to downshift unless really leaning into gas pedal. The Maverick has been my goal since it launched and now I'm only more convinced I want one! Great review.
@mrbillybob444

Yes, this is where I'm at. Have a 2007 Fusion that has seen better days, and when the maverick launched I knew it was the replacement. Now they need to show up on the lot. Or release the order books. Something.

@@mrbillybob444 I see them around but to often. It seems like as soon as one appears on a dealer lot it's sold within a day or two. I think in a year they'll be more readily available once Ford can catch up with their supply chain challenges.

I've had the basic Maverick for 10000 miles and you've pretty much hit the nail on the head. I've used it for a little bit of everything. You are 💯 about rolling down the windows. The other minor irritation I would add is that the driving options, eco mode, sport mode, ect are not saved. So every time you shut down the truck, you have to reset your mode. Overall it seems to be a great buy though.

I already really wanted one of these once I started learning about what they were and what they can do. Then I saw a few reviews on it. Then I got to drive it at the Chicago Auto Show. Now I'm looking at this owners review. I really want one of these things. I don't NEED a pickup truck, but boy would something with a big storage platform have come in handy on many more than one occasion. Mounting things to the roof of my Lincoln isn't great for the roof of my Lincoln, and trying to buy an older truck is like trying to buy gold in the shape of a truck, damn things are all so expensive and precious, even with a ton of miles. So, perhaps this truck is in my future, used... some day.

@@alex_thecarguy Exactly! All I need is something that can carry thing too big to fit in the trunk of a car when I need it to and act as at least fairly reliable transportation any other time. As a handyman who freelances as a maintenance man for a few different facilities, this may well be my next truck. I've carved out a nice niche where I'm really not doing big projects for people. I do a bunch of small-middling jobs throughout the week, instead. All I need room for is my tools and some small materials. I really think this would do the trick. Given the added bonus of up to 41 mpg with the hybrid version, it's very tempting.

Great video man. eco awd 4k XLT here as well. 13k miles Love the truck, as a huge fan of hatchbacks (had a '00 zx3 for a while, other car is an '18 focus hatch) I love this stiff spring escape w/bed cough i mean maverick. I had a '16 cc 3.5 eco F150 for a few years as well, and while i loved it, was way too big. Always was a og ranger guy, and got rid of 3 of them in exchange for having the maverick, and imo it fills the duties and joys of the old small trucks but better without the drawbacks. Has good mpg, power, cab space, handling and doesn't donky kick you down the freeway on asphalt heave bumps that even the F150 did (thank you unibody and independent suspension) Would an extended cab 6' bed version be nice, absolutely, for me it would make it the perfect truck "for me". and for anyone who complains about the eco mpg, try having a 2wd reg cab short bed 3.0 ranger, that had no balls, no comfort, no 4wd/awd, and despite the slowest of driving would get 21mpg if wind was low and no a/c on because that was an -5mpg highway because it consumed around 10% of the trucks power.

I regret not putting in an order for one last year... I ended up buying a Ranger a year ago and while I love the truck, it is too much truck for me. Gas mileage is poor and it is pretty terrible to drive on anything other than nice smooth roads. The Maverick would have been a good choice for the amount of truck stuff I end up doing. Hauling some gear for a range day or taking the kayak out to the lake. Too bad all of the Mavericks around here are $10K over MSRP or I would trade my inflated value Ranger for one.

Nope, I might want to maybe sometime in the near future or perhaps long term tow a boat or camper or flying car off road on like the Rubicon trail although I am not quite sure what state that is on. I can't speak for the SC, since I haven't even driven one, but some folks seem happy with it. I have seen the bed in person though and it is very small, for what that's worth. I'm with you on the Honda guy stance. Personally, I'm disappointed in how high they price pretty much everything in their lineup. I feel like Honda and Toyota are leaving a korea-sized gap in economy cars...
