Honestly what got me really into it is how the world feel so alive, you can listen to random npc talking, follow them as they walk away to see what happen and suddenly end up in an event. Sometimes you'll walk around the city, maybe rearranging your bags and some npc dialogue would pop up and just make you chuckle with how weird some of them are, even the enemy npcs sometimes have their own dialogue before you jump on them.

Yeah I love the dialogue, it got even better in the expansions. It's amazing how easy it is to get lost in the game - I'll log in to get some story done and like one mission in get sidetracked on some event chain and next minute 2 hours has passed and I haven't done any story haha

It was funny, but it got me thinking out the NPC's seem to have a real world going on and they are not just sitting there waiting for you to interact with them.

This is a game I've played since launch myself. Yes, there are other games I've played, but I always eventually come back to this one. Even while playing my current favorite. That's the best part of Guild Wars 2, IMO. I can always come back and see what's new, and the Living World constantly adds new stuff to the game. Gonna have to set some time for the next expansion, but my current main game, PSO2, is going through a slow bit right now. Go in, do dailies, be done for the day unless I want to do something else to screw around there. Next major update is not going to happen until this winter for that game, though there is plenty to have fun with there. But Guild Wars 2, as I said, is a game I always come back to and will continue to do so.

The community definitely helps this game thrive. Someone else already said it but it bears repeating - people don't have to tag up and lead events, help players, etc., but they do. Honestly I think it's quite admirable that in a game that's over 10 years old, you can still see tons of players in old maps doing events. THIS is imo what an mmo should be. Give players a reason to play together without needing for overly complicated & relatively easy to figure out. I love how the game allows you to play at your pace. No need to "rush" to keep up with eveyrone because your builds & gear are gnna be just as viable later as they are now. Wanna play for hours on end every day? Great you can if you find your goals to chase. Wanna casually play once every few weeks or take breaks & return when u feel like it? Amazing.

Plus the way they do sidequests just makes perfect sense. Instead of a constant back and forth between npc's, they're just all bundled up into different regional areas on the map via those 'Hearts' that you can do passively without having to fill up a big list of quests on the side of the screen. Then you got the wandering NPC's that trigger events based on players interacting with them. Helping guard one NPC down a road to an outpost can lead to a whole chain of events

sounds like most of you just had some sort of *culture shock* honestly, you are victims of vile conditioning. what blizzard did to the MMO community is unforgivable and many other studios tried to jump on the bandwagon over the years. ANet, otoh already followed a very different approach when they founded their studio around the year 2000 - the three founders all came from blizzard, right? they knew the toxic and exploitative thinking prevalent in their former employer, viewing the customer/players foremost as cash-cows and not respecting their time and effort in the game. ANet worked on Guild Wars 1 for years before WoW got released and brought their game to the market in April 2005. even back then in their first game, all content was designed to be relevant all the time. they just refined their techniques over the years and we can witness it in GW2. have fun in Guild Wars for years to come
@HyenaBlank
Жыл бұрын
Personally for me, I only played WoW for maybe a month or two cause a friend wanted meat shields for dungeon raids. But I recall some of the older MMO's had a bad problem with piles of back and forth sidequests too, so I don't think wow in particular is solely to blame, though they certainly didn't help to do anything to get rid of it either since they ended up becoming the template for every other MMO for the next two decades after it. GW2 did a pretty great way to clean up that redundancy with how it did sidequests. Granted, a lot of them still have that "Do so and so 10 times" mechanic, but there's no npc you have to keep running back to over and over again just to get the same quest multiple times in a row before you can get anything meaningful, You just do it passively as you explore the area. Occasionally there's some that want ya to gather stuff to bring back to em, but those are often related to those chains of dynamic events. @@embreis2257

The others never really appealed to me like WOW. Then about 2 years ago I found myself bored again and I came across GW2, and I am totally sold. I have 100's of mounts in WOW and sometimes I miss them, but the overall story line, the graphics and especially the game play in GW2 has won me over. I find GW2 far more challenging, and the story line is detailed and in-depth and keeps you enthralled in the gameplay. I will point out, when it comes to dungeons - not completing any dungeons in GW2 does not prevent your progressing in the game, nor does it take away from the gameplay. I can honestly say, I no longer miss WOW.

Eh, it depends on the time of day and where the world boss rotation is at, but every starter region (bar Ascalon for the Charr) has a world boss comes out at specific times. The Guild Wars 2 wiki has that timer. The hard part is doing the map exploration so you can get to them all from nearby waypoints, lol. At the same time, near every zone has a meta event of some sort on various timers. Some can tie into a world boss (if it is the apropriate time), but even when not, the meta event is fun as a whole.

Excellent video, just subbed to your channel :) I do have to admit GW2 is the best representation of what an MMORPG should be. Almost every other game forgets the 'Massive Multiplayer' part entirely. They think just because everyone outside of an instance can 'See' and 'Interact' with each other is good enough for it to be an MMORPG and just litter the world with quests and call it a day and move onto 'Instanced Content', which what almost all other MMORPGs put 90% of their focus towards. GW2 maps are never wasted and there's always an abundance of players in every single zone at all times of the day. This is the only game that feels like a living and breathing world to me. I personally believe GW2 excels at providing the players with a grand scale spectacle, that brings together all players who are just going about their day to be drawn into one of these events, which are usually spread out over the map, these smaller events in-turn lead these players from all over into one location, which then culminates into a huge final battle towards the end. This is truly a feast for the eyes and something I believe every MMORPG enjoyer should experience at least once in their lifetime. To be honest, I'm all for horizontal progression, and I'm over the never ending 'Gear-Treadmill'. To me personally I feel like all almost the other MMORPGs are like a second Job, but GW2 is like watching Netflix. It's relaxing, respects your time, every day feels fresh and it leaves you wanting for more.

When I first stepped into Verdant Brink in Heart of Thorns, somewhat aware this was a 10 year old expansion, I was genuinely confused as to why there was still players everywhere, such a fun zone that one, and it's only uphill from there.

They often add in collection or achivement an item or 2 that drop from old content/event, wich encourage older player to go back. And they often update those old map with new event, new "quest like" activity or all kind of content, wich again encourage older player to go back in older content. Its genius! And those addition rae not just boring fetch quest, they always fit with the lore and the current story, wich give a sence of immersion. I think it is important to note that Guild Wars 2 has a very long gear grind system, just like other MMO's, but at least it has an end, half-way through it, it's really just min-maxing your infusions for that extra 90 stat. But until you reach full ascended gear, you won't have best in slot, and that can take a while for new players to accomplish, especially without help. So the game still has gear grind, long after level 80. But it feels a ton better than other mmos. Another absolute bs myth is that GW2 doesn't have the holy trinity. What I really appreciate about guild wars 2 is the fact that there is real effort from the devs to make sure the entire game world stays relevant, there's nothing worse than looking at once loved zones and seeing 1-2 people an hour. I remember when I started GW2 wayback and as a complete newbie running into the svanir shaman event - I was amazed at how many people turned up and equally amazed to find out that I could join in without having to ask, being in a party or squad and being able to just participate on a whim. Most of the time visual cues and tells don't matter but when they do, ouchie, you die because you can't see them. But I don't agree that it looks like the bad semi-real games, its much more visually beautiful than that when you're cruising around viewing the landscape and vistas.

Very nice video, Wilstorm! 👍I also played WoW for several years and ended up in GW2 like 10 years ago... there are a lot of other points I could add to your listing of course. E.g. - one very important aspect for me, is the community: whenever you need help, or have a question in GW2 - you will be helped for sure! There is no boss / quest / achievement that you can`t do - even as a solo player - as you will always find someone to help you, or can easily join a bigger "squad" for your needed content. It`s also very remarkable, that you can find KZitem videos for like 99% of all the questions you might have in GW2 - even if it`s something trivial, like finding a single stupid "vista", and how to get there - i have to say, that i never experienced something like that in any other game! 😀

I tried the other way around. After 15 years in GW (1-2) I tried "other mmos". Boy, it was a challenge. In most of them, if you see a fellow player in a helpless situation, you can't help him, becouse 1. you steel his loot, 2. you don't have his quest or 3. he just phased out to another shard... or ... 4. I don't know why and I don't really care anymore. In GW2 you just have to go there and help him. Imo, this is the MMO part in the MMORPG genre. Oh, I forgot the rarely mentioned, but the most significant feature of the game: everyone can res!

I just started playing GW2 for the 1st time this past week. Having played several MMO-RPGs such as WoW, ESO, FFXIV, BDO and a few others over the past 10+ years... they ALL had "vertical progression" and that feeling of, "Why am I doing this? It will be obsolete in a few months." was always the worst part for those of us who play "competitively". Keeping a player on the "hamster wheel" WITHOUT patronizing them (or penalizing them for taking a day off!) is exactly what I was always looking for and just didn't realize it until recently. (Nice! I've been playing GW2 since day one, and still remember the dark times when our community was at war due to a legion of tragically misinformed WoW players lured in by Total Biscuit, Jesse Cox, and Yogs Cast, and the literal decade of "dead game," "WoW clone," "Pay to Win," and "no endgame" accusations and misinformation hurting the game's growth. Now though, it pleases me greatly every time I stumble across one of these new player videos. And a WoW player (nothing against WoW personally, but come on; sometimes it seems WoW players spend more time badmouthing other games than playing WoW) singing it's praises is immensely gratifying. Honestly thanks for prioritizing the 'horizontal variosuness" in your video. This is what i and most people i know in Guild Wars 2 have been enjoying the most for years and explaining in a crystal clear video like this from a new player is just another proof of that this game is kind of immortal. You are not FORCED to do anything yet you are NEVER out of something to do. Everything you do in this game is related to some achievement, some account-wide progress which pokes you to chase it until the end. Even though sometimes it takes a couple months to achieve what you want to do, it feels greatly deserved in the end of it which makes you feel that this game is definitely respecting your time. Storyline is just at another level compared to any MMOS. Even the cutscene skippers i know from the other games, which I was as well before, are just being attracted by how the sense of humor is inserted among the reasonable dialogs which have a baseline and been consistent since the beginning. And in the end, you feel like you are actually taking part in a story properly. Thanks for making one of the best explanations of this great game again.

Little warning about the horizontal progression: "Heart of Thorns" (first expansion) punches new players in the face. No tutorial, no safe zone. You're in Big School now and the devs assume you have good gear, know your build and know what you're doing. It is brilliant! I have died so many times! Everyone thinks "Well, Core got pretty easy, it'll be fine." No. Two words. Pocket. Raptors. It's like that scene in "Aliens" when the marines get swarmed, only in a Vietnam War film. And in the Tangled Depths area it's full "Starship Troopers"- but the bugs spit at you and some throw lightning. HoT is hardcore from the start and you need friends just to survive. This game is absolutely excellent! Also important to mention that once you craft a legendary, its available to all classes that can use that type of equipment on ur account, u can craft legendaries and sell them on the marketplace to make gold. ALSO also, the fractals are pretty fun, raids are cool, class system is unique, story is mostly interesting especially in everything after the main game, 90% of all content is still relevant (except for dungeons, but even those offer something that if u ask ur guildies they’ll most likely jump at the chance to do it). The open world content is so good, some guilds run this ONE massive event that came out with the base game TO THIS DAY, (triple threat - check it out on youtube) and still fills the maps instantly lol. WvW is fun as hell, New players get so much free content too before having to spend money on expansions. Its really great.

I personally think what also is one of GW2's best features that there is no monthly sub fee. You just buy the expansions once (since the core game is actually free to play) and you can play forever. First, I'd like to say that you hit on several key points that does distinguish GW2 from other MMO's. I was an avid play of WoW for 10 years myself but I stopped when the player base was becoming too toxic to handle. I have switched to GW2 and I Never Regretted it! I would like to point out the one thing (Which sadly is not mentioned on this list, but that's perfectly okay) is that GW2 has NO Subscription fees! You can play most of the base game for free, or you can buy the full game once (not including the LWS or Expansion content) and not have to worry about game time at all! This factor alone is my top reason for playing GW2.

I played WoW for 14 years, but Blizzard has been so disappointing that I deleted my account and went out looking for other games. I played FF14 for a few months, but that didn't feel like the right one either. From what I can tell, GW2 looks super unique. It takes the MMO formula and make every single aspect engaging. Just got the temporary raptor mount, and just riding it around was super fun. In your clip where you're just exploring, a swarm of players on different mounts rushes past... Wow, that is so immersive. How could you not join them after seeing something like that?

I don't know how they are going to do it, but with the elimination of elite specs they will eventually have to find a way to share all weapons in order to complete that side of the expansion content and build process. As they say on their website: www.guildwars2.com/en/news/combat-in-guild-wars-2-secrets-of-the-obscure/ "To round off our combat systems updates, we’re granting each profession proficiency with an additional weapon. This is planned for the second major release after launch (and we’re aiming to ship those major releases quarterly). We’ll have more details about the style of play associated with these weapons as we get closer to this feature shipping, and later this year we’ll have a beta for you to preview the changes. For now, here’s the lineup of who’s getting what: Guardian: Pistol (main and off hand) Revenant: Scepter (main hand) Warrior: Staff Engineer: Short bow Ranger: Mace (main and off hand) Thief: Axe (main hand) Elementalist: Pistol (main hand) Mesmer: Rifle Necromancer: Sword (main and off hand)"

Guild Wars 1 and 2 veteran here. Dipped my toes into WoW for 3 months this year, and came back to Guild Wars 2. My two cents to your experience (which I mostly agree with): It is true: Old content in WoW feels obsolete. I almost never saw other players roaming around in old areas of the game. People in the forum told me (basically) in a very harsh tone: "Dude! Stop wasting our time with your stupid-ass questions! Buy instant level 60 and go to Dragonflight!" There are, of course, Meta events which are more or less popular, and with every new map I'm worried about how the old content "suffers" from that. But there is usually no abandoned content to be found. There's a side note, however. Due to the fact, that you don't need to raise your level, some of the (minor) open world events are not very popular. Why trying to kill some strong champion enemy in a hidden corner of the map for 5 minutes to get some crappy loot? Sometimes it is linked to an achievement. But most likely it's not. I also strongly agree with the WoW mount experience. Cast time for mounting up? Who the heck came up with something like that and why? When you said "Guild Wars 2 is a build crafting paradise" I had to shake my head though. Maybe it is in comparison to World of Warcraft. But: Guild Wars 2 build system is a lifeless shadow compared to Guild Wars 1. In Guild Wars 1 each class had like 100 skills to chose from. And then, there was the secondary job system. Which means: You can combine (let's say) your Ranger skills with the weapons and skills of a Warrior, which gives you 100 skills extra. Elementalist/Necromancer, Monk/Derwish, Ritualist/Assassin. The variety is sheer limitless. 9 classes, each with 100 skills, and even more PvE skills. And the best thing is: You can simply swap your secondary job while you're in a town. Combine this with your average party size of 8 people. Now - THIS is heaven for crafters. But, yeah: Guild Wars 2 feels a bit more polished in that regard compared to WoW. I agree with everything else you said and mentioned. I hope you continue to have fun with the game!

Guild Wars is a dying game though... I am all for horizontal progression as I believe it is superior for RPGs. However, it's not Blizz that brainwashed anyone here.. Our monkey brains like to see number increases, and that's a fact. However, if you constantly chase vertical progression you eventually get yourself burned out, which is what happened during Shadowlands. Blizz understood this, which is why the current expansion has less vertical progression and more things to explore, collect and gain.. The next WoW expansion will have more of this as well.. You see the secret is to have both horizontal AND vertical progression in your game. Horizontal progression gives everyone more choice so everyone finds something they like. Vertical progression satisfy our primal need to watch numbers grow. Both are needed...

I went from being an elitist CE raider to a chill ass GW2 casual and I've been loving every moment of it. Since I started playing in MoP I'd constantly hear these 435 year old fossils lament about attunements and 40-mans, so I'd go try and make a twink at 60 or do the Molten Front questline to at least see what it was like, but after doing it once, it's done, and I'm back to wiping 60 times on Kil'Jaeden because our GM refuses to kick his dogshit ass best friend who does blue parse DPS and our RL keeps inviting anyone with a feminine character name into the group just to do 1/3 of my healing, then both the GM and RL will get onto our Maw of Souls 5 man spams and vent about bad and lazy players while a 6th dude is farming Vantus Runes and talking about grinding up AP on their 5th character because it does marginally higher DPS on one boss. Now I'm doing like 85% of benchmark and cruising through content with other casual and fun-first players, and actually having a better time, too. I went back to see what Dragonflight was and honestly, Dragonriding is nothing compared to the plethora of fun mounts offered by GW2, and while the challenge of a +23 key is fun with the right people, it lacks the sense of drama and theatrics from like the Dragon's End meta or Drakkar. It's not like everything is GW2 is easy, obviously, I only just cleared KO CM for the first time the other day, and also of course there are still dumbasses who demand 250LI for IBS strikes, but I think the fact that after a raid or strike I can just go glide around to collect VM instead of having to help craft 50 feasts for the next raid relieves a lot of stress about the game. I'm kinda with you in terms of the story. I'm not expecting the GW2 writers to give me a playable version of Chinatown, I just want it to let my character to badass things with a team of side characters that rally under me. Even though I find Jory and Caithe pretty annoying for most of the story, they're far better than... Nathanos, Genn and Anduin...who are all somehow more powerful and important than our characters in an escapist self-insert fantasy game. Still though I think the story/world lore might be what keeps players from getting into GW2 fully. Asura, Sylvari and Charr are pretty cool once you know what they are, but they don't have the pre-existing "nerd clout" as your Orcs or Elves or Trolls. One thing I don't think you mentioned that I love about GW2 is that the combat system feels almost like a fighting game, with like the shield4 blocks, break bars, confusion, dodging. You really can make even some Patchwerk world bosses like DBS feel a lot more engaging than it would in WoW. I also love how they alter some maps based on metas, like Tarir's treasure room being sealed until you beat the Octovine and Palawadan becoming Scrooge McDuck's place once you kill Amala. When a world boss dies in WoW, they respawn in 15min and that's it. Some parts of the map requiring things like Ley-Line gliding or the frog antidote or Jackal portals is super cool, too. Bottom line for me is that GW2 actually feels like an MMO while WoW is a co-op dungeon crawler that forces you to grind bullshit in the open world to start playing the actual game. There are still things I think WoW does better, like supporting addons, transmog diversity and the fucking PC requirements to run the game on high settings, but I'm very glad that this game is getting more and more traction despite its rough start and the whole IBS fiasco. Level 10 access to raptors gave quite a few of my friends the push to stop complaining about it being a "too much walking" game so I hope they do more to get new players invested in their game and lore in general and I hope this video and others like it singing its praise will bring more players into the game.

I can't even tell you how much this comment resonated with me, I've just two weeks ago finished the CE slog, 200 pulls on Sarkareth and all the stuff about your guild and GM just had me in tears. Don't get me wrong, I love WoW and enjoy the PVE content but that is literally all I engage in (Raid/m+) and GW2 has opened my eyes to everything else an MMO should be. Yes I love the combat style! I mentioned it in a comment somewhere below that it's this strange mix of targeting (like WoW) and freestyle combat (something kinda like Elden ring) and it's so engaging and satisfying. Unfortunately I can't inlude everything in a top 10 video... I didn't even talk about how the game is basically free, purchase once, no subscriptions! Loved your comment, couldn't agree more, thanks for taking the time to write this!!

I really liked GW2 for the several months I played it. I max-leveled one or so of every class and I agree with much of what is stated in this video. The world itself seems to have a life of its own and is just beautiful. The area events are pretty cool, exploration is amazing, and the class abilities are a lot of fun! The quests are engaging and interesting, the mounts and their abilities add their own value as well. For me personally however, I mainly stopped playing because I somehow still managed to get bored with the game. I was never really able to meet any players with common interests, so I never quite made it to end-game in that regard. I know that was a "me" issue, and I don't expect everyone else to have this problem. I just tend to hyper-focus on certain aspects which in turn seems to lessen my social abilities. However, I would highly recommend GW2!

I've been playing it since launch. This is a game where you can put it down, come back several months later, and it is still fresh and relevant. Yes, there are details that you will want to bone up on, depending, but you don't need to. The game is also very casual friendly, which benefits me, given I work a full time job, with regular overtime (mostly on my own initiative but not always) depending on the time of year. And I admit, I play other MMOs, depending on my interest at the moment, and I can simply just come back to GW2 any time I feel like it and not have to worry about what I missed.

I too played WoW for ten years, raiding, dungeons, yadda yadda. In GW2 I love exploring open world. Even after all this time, I still find places that I never saw before! Heck, I just leveled up a Mechanist Engineer and love it! This game rocks!

Coming from the TOXICITY that is Destiny 2 PVP, I really enjoy the community in GW2. People are chill, helpful and seem to play this game because they ENJOY it. (not because they want to kill you 20 times and then insult your family, t-bag you and wish you cancer.).

One thing i was impressed when i start to play is game community. THE most wholesome game fanbase i ever encounter. Just start your journey and complete tutorial? 50% chance there will be 2000+ hours guy in first location that dedicate 2-4 hours of his day to answer newbies questions. Ask for help to kill 5pl champion mob while leveling in prime time? 20+ people emerge from air and obliterate that fella for you and then silently disappear. You don't know mechanic in t1 fractal or try ibs strike for the first time? Whole group 99% of the times will wait and explain mechanic to you. Most help i get trying other mmo is "watch youtube, don't die". That is impressive how people in gw2 passionate about this game (in a healthy way).

the boon system is a bit of a double edged sword in my mind, on one hand it adds a level of complexity to both the build craft and gameplay. but on the other, the overwhelming importance of stacking as a group makes some of the endgame group content a bit monotone and spammy

Yes while I enjoy the concept fundamentally, they are VERY powerful and could probably be less impactful. That's the fun I guess but doing like a third of potential dps when you're solo sometimes feels bad haha overall my initial impression with them is definitely positive though

Firstly welcome to the community bro! I've been playing GW2 since GW has been out and I love seeing YT's providing there take on why they love GW2. It get's me logging in after a long day at work to get into the game after watching these types of videos. I really love your 10 points particularly points 4 and 1. Very well put together video. Thank you for your input. I've been playing this game since half a year after launch and it always keeps me coming back. I think my favorite thing about GW2 is that my character stays relevant, even when i take a few months or even years off to play other games, I can always come back, no money required and just pick up where i left it

Gosh i need to try this game again. I have an 80 Ranger I leveled and geared when the game launched. Enjoyed it thoroughly, idk why i stopped. Maybe ADHD. I'm trying to find 1 MMO to sink my time into and I had decided on FF14 but now I'm thinking GW2 again. Great video :) thanks for rekindling my interest! To think my 80 ranger's gear could still be relevant is huge.

Horizontal progression is great "What else would I do if not improve my gear?" You know you have a design issue when gearing is the end-game. A gear treadmill for the sake of a gear treadmill is poor game design and should never be defended. All too often, people conflate "sandbox" with "no actual endgame content" and it's so irritating to see. I feel like people who say "Theres no reason to keep playing at max cos theres no gear treadmill" have completely forgotten why they upgrade gear in the first place. Its not to get better gear, it's to challenge tougher content. The gear you get from that is to challenge the next tough content. Replace the gear requirements with skill requirements and suddenly that treadmill is redundant. People have conditioned themselves to see the gear as the goal rather than the content itself.

Absolutely and as I said, to be honest, I had that mindset of gear treadmill only and GW2 has opened my eyes

Very nice to hear these opinions from a long-time WoW player! You're completely right, GW2 is one of the few MMOs that tries to respect the player's time (at least they try most of the time lol). Also very good editing on the review of the Story, at the end I was worried you were going show spoilers! The only thing that made me clench my teeth to hear WvW grouped with Instanced PvE - I guess that was a script typo? :) (Grouping PvP with PvE is a sure way to invoke nerd-rage lol) WvW gameplay in GW2 really does deserve attention. It can be difficult to get into WvW but it is absolutely amazing if you enjoy it and no other MMO currently on the market really offers anything like what GW2 successfully pulls off, whereas raiding is pretty standard fare across the genre. I think WvW is one of the things that helps to make GW2 so unique.

I'll never forget that moment of slowly limping your way to find Aurene. PoF & the Living World Season that followed were hands down incredible. As far as open world, every starting race/zone has there big one, but Queensdale' bandit hideout being connected to caves and that one homestead basement make the game feel so good. A side note, the foley used in sound design is top-notch, showcased in official videos with windmills, but found everywhere.

And another thing, always follow a random NPC that walks/runs away from a scene of dialog. That's a dynamic event waiting to happen, and you get to watch it begin before jumping into it.

I've never played WoW, but I have played my share of MMOs (10+ years). My soul is now weary and was looking for something to settle on, and that is how I came across GW2. I LOVE it, and for exactly all the reasons you listed. You did not miss a single one. Part of why I could never come back to an MMO is because of the catch up game, as my gear would have been irrelevant. GW2 doesn't have that. I love doing 100% achievements like RPGs, and GW2 satisfies that. And I have always thought of how a waste maps are in MMOs are. Once you level through them, those maps that people have painstakingly made are never used again. GW2 almost FORCES you to revisit because of metas. I was leveling once at around level 40 and then got wrecked by what I didn't know was a world boss, until hordes of players suddenly showed up. It was SO COOL. Finally, while mileage may vary, I have found that the community is amazing. So many people are willing to help beginners. There were even memes about how since the game is generally quite "casual", you also get less toxic players. There is just so much to love about this game and as someone who only started a month ago and agreed wholeheartedly with every single one of your points, I'm happy to say I may have finally found my retirement home MMO. And you have also earned yourself a subscriber. 😊

I haven't played in years but one thing that helped always seeing players around was the megaserver system. Back when it was first rolled out I didn't think too much of it but now almost a decade later I have to admit it is something truly amazing.
@embreis2257

their whole server system is amazing. no downtimes for 'server maintenance'. these guys maintain their servers without bothering the players and they don't even charge a subscription for their game. compare that to ESO or other shameless studios who think it okay to shut down servers for several hours almost every week

I've mythic raided in WoW and crafted like 5 legendaries in GW2 so I've played heaps of both. GW2 does just about everything better except ((boons)). Boons are fun and work great in PvP, but in PvE they turn every instanced PvE encounter/world boss into stack fights- where your ranger with a bow will have to sit as close as a thief with daggers in melee or you won't get/provide your boons; which totally stifles the creativity of raid design for the devs, the fun of raids for me (and others it seems, since they have not made more raids in 4+ years). Or you'll be asked to change your build for a raid into a meta build that brings a specific boon or you don't go because a player without boons is about 50% less powerful than a player WITH all boons. GW2 has a lot going on, a lot of fun and unique content that stays relevant years later; but if you want to raid or if you don't like mandatory stacking in every fight you do in PvE; GW2 is not the game for you. I love the game as a whole, but that bit kills a lot of the staying power it had for me.

I havent really experienced true meta events yet, but the random escort mission events that I join in sometimes suddenly accumulates a player ball with different mounts and cosmetics, and oneshotting mobs trying to raid the cow carrying stuff, it's really fun
