Great video! To enhance the viewer's understanding, it might be helpful to differentiate between the left and right arm, perhaps by wearing a watch or a band. This could provide a more straightforward way to keep track.

THIS IS FANTASTIC QUALITY CONTENT! I love the format of providing things to do in a given position, and also the options for entries and exits. 👀 #5 6:51 is pretty. Idk why I never thought of that! #6 8:03is such a signature Marius & Elena move that I think I'm ready to try out. The tilted turn looks so nice! #7 is SUUPER social friendly. It looks good, matches the music easily, and is followable even by total beginners! #9 works great for beginner followers too. I've seen a cool variant of 9 where the leader does a basic on the spot and moves the follower around hip, it's pretty neat. #10 : SO COOL! I was today years old when I learned you could do a 1.5 turn from hammerlock into shadow AND stay on the leader's count which is super convenient for musicality. l BONUS: Who never told me you could switch places into hammerlock?! Or do 1.5 turns form pretzel into hammerlock!? Such incredible and applicable content.

Really great tutorial, love these combos. Learned these combos with my dancing partner but having problems performing them at socials. Everytime I throw the follower's hand inside they turn, even if I don't signal with my right arm... do you have any advice?
@MariusElenaBachata
Жыл бұрын
Thank you. About that part, if it makes sense, you must transmit to her that she must only move her hand. That means you must : 1. throw her hand 2. signal to her that it's only the hand, not a turn. Hope this makes sense. One of the most important thing I try to teach leaders is that you always lead something. Even if it's a "don't move", it's still transmiting information. So, flip the "I don't signal with my right arm" to "I must signal for her to stay in place and only move her arm". I really, really hope this makes sense. It's hard to explain in writing =))

How does a follower differentiate between combo 4 and 6, when the guy flicks our arm, how do we know when to grab his arm and go under (like combo 6) or keep it swinging back like combo 4?? My instant reflex is to grab his arm and go under like combo 6, so how do I know he wants me to keep swinging instead, if that makes sense.
@MariusElenaBachata
8 ай бұрын
You actually gave the answer you were looking for :D In combo 4 there is a "flick", which means more energy and a shorter move. In Combo 6 it's a longer move, with less energy, and I say in the video "Push and raise your elbow as much as you can". So totally different signals. As a follower you should wait until the very last moment to see what is actually happening. Sometimes, reflexes that come from doing a certain move a lot of time, means anticipation, which can actual make you mis understand a move.

A lot of ladies will immediately take their hands away no matter how quick you wanna be, and that creates a hassle
@MariusElenaBachata
Жыл бұрын
That is just not true... been doing this combos for the last year in social... 3 or 4 girls just acted on their own and even then I could have done things better, like paying attention to her cues. But the thing is that the men, the leader must know if x combo is above the followers level. Otherwise, you will get a lot of girls not doing them. 9 in 10 cases the leader did a mistake, not the follower. This is my experience (Marius here) teaching Bachata for 8 years with a focus on social dancing.
Жыл бұрын
@@MariusElenaBachata try dancing with some beginners ;-) I find that it is very different with people that are more advanced. Granted im not nearly as good as you guys, but when you dance with someone that hasn't done a certain move before they will often not know what to do, while advanced dancers will identify what you're doing even if they have never seen it before.
@MariusElenaBachata
Жыл бұрын
@ i dance mainly with beginners. And as I said, I adapt my move to the level of the dancer. If it's a beginner follower, I don't use 90% of my moves because she won't be able to follow. I don't know other instructors but we emphasize this in our classes. As said, majority of leaders use the same moves for all followers... NO! You should have combos/moves for beginners, intermediate, advanced... you use each category as needed. Not one set of combos for all levels. Also, other sets of moves for footwork, tricks, dips, musicality etc... Being a really good dancer is not easy but to be a good dancer, all it takes is to be aware of what you are doing (also something we teach in our classes). P.s. Our classes usually last 1+ year with the same group ... And they are called intermediate dancers after 1 year. Advanced, only if we consider them to be advanced, otherwise they remain in the intermediate group .
Жыл бұрын
@Marius & Elena Official Yes, I agree. I find that beginner/intermediate leaders can not adjust the level of moves very well according to follower level, it's a separate skill really! I've done some following as well and some leaders are just really good at feeling at what level I am while others will do things that I could lead, but not follow!
@lh8558

Because hammerlocks are not comfortable and highly restrictive when we are maintaining our balance, being given floor movement and turns that start one way but mean us to go the other way. If men would dance with men, they'd see what we go through.
