I think an honorable mention should have gone to the mysterious Y-Wing pilot who survived the Death Star attack.

Lobot is an awesome character, he never says a word and the characters almost never interact with him, Nor is his name ever given. But he manages to have an impact with the combination of good writing, great non verbal acting on John Hollis part and excellent costume and props, they managed to make him really stand out. There's just something really fascinating about a guy who can mental interface with a Cities Central computer and manipulate the city's systems. I wish technology like this in Star Wars was further explored, there's a lot of story telling potential with it, it could possibly open up to cyberpunk style storytelling which I think would fit quite well in the Star Wars universe, with the existence of cyborg technology and powerful mega corporations as well as corrupt and unscrupulous governments, and of course robots in the form of droids. All the elements for cyberpunk storytelling is right there, they just have to be exploited properly and have the right type of story in good creative hands.

If only Disney showed the same enthusiasm for such work, not just Star Wars but everything else. If they did have that, combined with the corporation's money and resources, things could have been very magical, but of course Disney hasn't been like that in decades. Now they're in a big pickle, how sad and how appropriate.

The reason there are so many backstories like these is because of years of an RPG, novels, and comics. I heard in a video the game was the original kick-off for so much lore, as it gave a lot of profiles for planets and species, then both comics and novels meant a lot of writers had opportunity to fill in space in the lore, and thus things like the "Tales from the Mos Eisley Cantina" and "Tales from Jabba's Palace" anthology novels came to exist, and other pieces that later got pulled into canon got written, like Boba Fett surviving the sarlaac, Grand Admiral Thrawn, the Ysalamiri, the whole concept of the Nightsisters and Dathomiri being matriarchal - these are things I recall as having read in novels in the 90s, long before BoBF, Rebels, and Maul being attributed as being Dathomiri.

@MultiverseAsheville I am sorry, hurts me too. I would be willing to ignore stupid bits I promise! But I am not willing to sit through all of the "stuff we must obey" just to find a few actual Star Wars moments. The sad thing is if they would actually make a Star Wars movie it would not fail, it would be a guaranteed Billion maker!. Apparently "The Message" supercedes Star Wars fan's desire for a Star Wars movie. They aren't even trying to make a Star Wars movie with Heroes and Princesses. They want other things and a few weak men as a supporting cast for the )-: the the other things. No good against evil either they are redefining all of that with a sliding scale )-:
