Start with skincare as young as is reasonable for sure! I always recommend professional strength serums to my clients for actually changing the skin. I recommend higher end professional grade moisturizer only bc the ingredient sourcing is way cleaner than department store moisturizer. At least with my skin care lines I carry. My fave is Sircuit Secret Sauce, Hale and Hush Vital Lipid Lotion. Also, Led Light Therapy, Microcurrent, organic food, organic skin care, yoga, good sleep, clean water, organic wine on occasion, AND massage your own face every week with grape seed oil (in glass bottle bc oils leach too much plastic). Massage for 10-15 minutes in upward and outward circles. Great for every aging issue. All these things keep you naturally radiantly beautiful without the risk of getting sick and injuring your facial tissues.

You have to understand that there are two categories of skin care purchasing. The first is non-professional skin care, the second is professional. The first category of non-professional skin care is comprised of grocery store, drugstore, department store, including Ulta, Sephora, target, and a lot of what is on Instagram and TickTock. Professional skin care is legally allowed to work deeper in the skin with higher percentage of active ingredients. And expensive moisturizer from your dermatologist, plastic surgeon, or aesthetician it’s going to be far superior than an expensive moisturizer from the department store. What the doctor says in this video is correct as far as department store moisturizers being no better than drugstore moisturizers, they’re just more expensive. But a well-made moisturizer that really serves your skin and nourishes your skin is going to be expensive but you need to make sure it’s professional grade from your skin care professionals not from the department store or drugstore or grocery store. All of your skin care purchasing should be guided by an aesthetician, cosmetic nurse, skin care educated dermatologist, or plastic surgeon. Never ever ever stop getting facials. They are dramatically helpful.

@@missmayflower Unfortunately no-one knew anything about skin cancer in those days either ... and there wasn't such a huge hole in the Ozone layer in those days either! :( Those who were a little older than I used either baby oil or coconut oil! I was born in 1953, so I was still under the thumb of my mother in the '60s, so we used Pink Zinc here in Australia in the 1960s ... which was due to much nagging from our mothers! I never tanned well, but only came out with deeper freckles or sunburn, so I learnt the hard way and even when I was older I either used a sunscreen or cover up as I didn't want to look like peeling lobsters for the rest of the summer wore the pink zinc on my face! I speak from experience after two very nasty skin burns on my back cured me of 'sun-baking' as opposed to 'sun-bathing' after taking me out of the rest of the summer holidays at the beach! I saw friends of mine who'd spent years worshiping the sun in those days and their skin certainly shows it! Even up until the 1980s women here in Australia were still 'baking' topless in the sun without using any sunscreen. I only had to look at their skin to see what mine would look like if I followed in their footsteps, and I'm so grateful that I did. I knew one friend who appeared to have turned from a regular looking person, to what could only be described as lizard skin within about 8 years of my knowing her. I've lived walking distance to the beach for the last 40 years, but after having learnt my lesson early on about getting sun on my skin, particularly on my face, I was never too keen on just lying on the beach. However I do admit to long, very early morning walks along the beach before work for a couple of years.

Then, I started using a daily retinol serum, moisturizer, and sunscreen, and stopped using drying agents like salicylcic acid and oily skin products. I eventually started using an oil cleanse, and a modified Korean skincare routine which incudes much of what you mentioned here. I eat a very clean diet free of processed foods, added sugars, etc, and significantly increased my hydration. I also exercise 4-5 days per week. My skin is now acne free, even toned, glowing and youthful. People often mistake me for someone 10 years younger, or simply have told me "Girl, you don't age!" As for wrinkles and fine lines, its natural to have them as we grow old and i am learning to accept that :) I feel that having a simple but consistent skincare routine just to keep my skin hydrated , esatblishing a healthy conenction with your aging skin and accepting its change will help me to focus and explore other aspects of my life and l wont make me overly dependent and obsessed about it ...

She avoided damaging her skin barrier I suppose. Those of us with excessive, sticky oil production due to genetics, and from hormone fluctuations, chronic stress and inflammation wish it was so easy. Lots of bad advice over the years made my skin much worse, until I was afraid to use any products. EVOO made me break out when I tried it 🫠 Antibiotics caused severe digestive issues. Isotretonin (Accutane) helped clear deep cystic acne, but it came back, and I now have chronic dry eye and contact lens intolerance. I would not recommend now that I know how to use benzoyl peroxide for bringing the deep nodular acne to the surface. Unfortunately, I was still afraid to buy any new moisturizing products after years of failed trials. Olay Sensitive Soothing moisturizer (with oatmeal) however is helping my skin barrier heal now. I quit my job as well (severe burn out) and have been getting better sleep and proper showers every day as well. Soaking in a warm tub after a shower is great for opening the pores and moving oil towards the surface, but I still had closed comedones due to fear of salicylic acid washes. Cerave salicylic acid cleanser is so gentle however 😮 I was shocked bc I remembered the pain and increased inflammation as a teenager, but that must have been from other ingredients. Alcohol and citric acid, and well a perfumes or linalool are to be avoided. Most products will have alcohol or citric acid still, so make sure those are listed near the end of the ingredients at least. I’m still learning mind you.

It is a hugely gross overstatement to say foaming cleansers are abrasive, damaging, etc. There are so many out there that are gentle, pH balanced, etc. Especially in this day and age, and with K-beauty being more available. Non foaming cleansers may even have the same surfactants as a foaming cleanser. Also foaming cleansers are the complete opposite pore-clogging. It Is rather creamy cleaners that are much more likely to cause this. Some of us have skin that responds well only to foaming cleansers. Other kinds just do not work and result in acne or other skin issues. Let’s not make the topic of cleansing more stressful than it is by saying you are causing damage to your skin by using a foaming cleanser. I bought into that a long time ago and it really was such a waste of time. It’s really just so personal. Not a one size fits all thing.

If you want great skin you have to start from the inside out, take silica gel, apply castor oil to skin( must be cold pressed organic castor oil) drink water daily. Castor oil is also great on the feet at night time then put socks on, it softens dry feet, it softens the face and helps with wrinkles and it's all very cheap to do. I am 53 with no skin wrinkles, no acne, i always had clear skin. I don't wear makeup. Stop using harsh face cleaners we were never meant to have them on our skin. I wash my face with a hot cloth no soap then once wiped down i apply a cold cloth to remove the castor oil from the night before. Did you know castor oil is good for acne?

Thank you for such an informative and sensible tutorial/video!! You've certainly made me feel very comfortable that I'm doing all the right things for my skin. At 70, I have very few wrinkles, and the ones I do have are very fine. Living in the sub-tropics on the east coast of Australia, it's very easy to go without a good SPF, but I've used it in my regular morning routine for the last 10 years, plus the Retin-A cream in my evening routine, along with Hyaluronic acid serum, Vitamin C serum and a morning moisturiser, and a different one in my evening routine. I use water and a face cloth when I shower to wash my face, and a cucumber & micellar cleansing tonic just before applying my hyaluronic acid serum to give it a moist base so that it doesn't draw out the moisture from my skin. The only two changes I make to my morning & evening routines is the Retin-A at night, and the SPF in the morning. Everything else remains the same. I also use a Dermaroller a couple of times a week, and my Led mask on the red light setting, as often as I remember to use it! I've also found that using a mask on a weekly basis, as well as 'face-shaving' weekly to assist in the removal of dead skin cells on the surface. I have a palsy that has also altered the shape of my jaw because of the muscle damage in my tongue as well, due to a neurological disease. However, I decided that even though I wasn't able to have threads lifts, I'd do the next best thing that I did have some control over, and that was to take care of my skin. Sadly, this isn't always enough for some people though, as about 10 years ago, within a fortnight, two total strangers ask me if I'd had a stroke! Those comments made me so self-conscious that I've been a recluse and social introvert since then and I now only go out when essential now. I could beat paralysis several times from a young age, but I can't beat the ignorance of some people. I may not be able to do anything about the facial droop, but I'm doing the best I can with what I have! RETIN-A QUERY: I've never had any reaction to the Retin-A cream, but perhaps it was because my doctor started me on the .025 and has only recently increased it to 0.05 as the 0.025 has become unavailable to source by my pharmacist here in Australia. Even with the increased strength, I've still not experienced any negative reactions to it. I'm keen to know about how often &/or when you and your wife use the Retin-A cream, and what strength, as the photographs of both your wife and you on the beach showed that you both have excellent skin! I noticed that you mentioned that your wife uses the Retin-A in the mornings and that she uses her SPF and face cover in her morning walks. Is there a particular reason that she doesn't use it in her evening routine instead, or does she use it both morning and evening?

I agree with most of the things the Dr is saying, however, some of his suggestions, like using Vitamin C, exfoliants and retinol can wreck havoc on sensitive skin. Now I have the best smelling oil for body, hair, and face. Olive oil is a little acidic and really helps your face to glow. And, no you do not look greasy because you rub it into your hands first, then pat your face, rake your fingers through your hair. Even my husband uses it on his shaved head~ and it smells marvelous. Lasts about 4-6 months for less than 45 USD for two people. That is the best deal in town. Luv you Dr. K and crew~ From Minnesota

Foaming cleansers can be suitable for some individuals, but they may not be ideal for everyone or for all skin types. Why they would not be suitable: Foaming cleansers often contain surfactants that create a lathering effect. While this can give a satisfying feeling of cleanliness, it can also strip away the skin's natural oils. This can lead to dryness, tightness, and potentially disrupt the skin's moisture barrier. Some foaming cleansers contain harsh ingredients or fragrances that can be irritating to sensitive or reactive skin types. The lathering action can also contribute to mechanical friction, which may aggravate sensitive skin conditions such as rosacea or eczema. Foaming cleansers tend to have a higher pH level, which can disrupt the skin's natural acidic pH. This can disturb the skin's protective barrier and affect its ability to retain moisture, potentially leading to dryness and irritation.
@Mollyjean2014

It depends patient to patient but if someone has had one blepharoplasty prior to coming to me, I would not automatically deny them my procedure. There are other factors to weigh. While saving or preparing for surgery the best thing you can do is take care of your skin. Get on a great skin care regimen with active ingredients and retinol, and be slightly obsessive about sun protection. Besides that, some botox here and there and if you are going to use filler do not put it under the eyes and keep it super conservative. Hope that answers your questions!

definitely agree with these. the importance of sunscreen cannot be overstated. i’m curious why you specifically recommend mineral over chemical sunscreens though 🤔
@dramirkaram
Жыл бұрын
When it comes to choosing sunscreen, mineral-based options are often preferred over chemical ones. Mineral sunscreens, which contain ingredients like zinc oxide and titanium dioxide, offer a range of benefits that make them a top choice for sun protection. Unlike chemical sunscreens, mineral-based formulas provide broad-spectrum coverage, shielding your skin from both UVA and UVB rays. Moreover, they work as physical blockers, sitting on top of your skin and reflecting the sun's rays away. This not only helps prevent sunburn but also reduces the risk of absorbing potentially harmful chemicals through your skin. By choosing mineral-based sunscreens, you can enjoy effective and safer sun protection for your skin!

I really would like to know how to pick a good quality sunscreen. The dos and don'ts of picking sunscreen.
@dramirkaram
Жыл бұрын
Dos: - Choose a sunscreen that provides broad-spectrum protection, which means it shields your skin from both UVA and UVB rays. Look for "broad-spectrum" on the label. -Opt for a sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher. SPF 30 blocks about 97% of UVB rays, and higher SPFs provide only marginally increased protection. - If you'll be swimming or sweating, select a water-resistant sunscreen that can maintain its effectiveness for a specified duration while exposed to water or sweat. -Consider your skin type and any specific concerns you may have. If you have sensitive skin, look for sunscreens labeled as hypoallergenic or designed for sensitive skin. - Look for sunscreens with gentle and effective ingredients like zinc oxide or titanium dioxide, which are physical blockers that provide broad-spectrum protection. These ingredients are generally well-tolerated and less likely to cause irritation. Don'ts: - Avoid using sunscreens with very low SPF or insufficient protection. An SPF below 30 may not provide adequate defense against harmful UV rays. - Check the expiration date on the sunscreen. Expired sunscreens may not offer effective protection, so discard and replace them as needed.

Love to hear that! That is one of my favorite benefits of the Trifecta- pore cleansing. I will make a video about chemical peels... Chemical peels are cosmetic treatments that involve the application of a chemical solution to the skin, which causes controlled exfoliation and regeneration. They can improve the appearance of the skin by addressing various concerns such as acne, hyperpigmentation, uneven texture, fine lines, and wrinkles. It's important to note that chemical peels should be performed by a trained professional to ensure proper safety and optimal results. The choice of peel strength, number of treatments, and post-treatment care will depend on your specific skin concerns, skin type, and the recommendation of your skincare professional.

Ideal regimen will depend on your concerns (dark circles, puffiness etc) but generally I would say anybody would benefit from retinol (specifically formulated to be gentle enough for delicate eye area) and fragrance free moustirizer of your choice, of course sun protection on all sun exposed skin during the day. For the makeup remover, you could try cleansing oil or balm as your first cleanse. They break down makeup pretty well.

Make sure you put Vaseline or equivalent to the both corners of your eyes before using strong retinol product. I am a new subscriber. Your videos are illuminating (double entendre intended), Dr. Karam. I would add to the list of “Do’s,” two things: first, DO use water that is no hotter than gently warm when washing the skin (corollary - do NOT use hot water), and second, DO make sure to massage the products applied to the skin longer than you think sufficient, because sufficient isn’t really enough to make sure the product is “pushed” gently into the lower dermis. This last thing, apart from the two above, applies if one is using makeup after the moisturizer(C, retinal, hyaluronic, etc. routine), and that is DO wait at least 10-15 minutes for the skin prep to settle in before slathering on foundation, or blush, or bronzer, or powder, etc.

My face is always lighter than the rest of my body. It’s pretty funny bc I’m usually two-toned. I avoid the sun on my face like the plague but not my body. Sunscreen consistently #1 rule!

What retinol cream/lotion percentage you recommend for the body? I use 15% for the face, but not sure what brand is good for the body that doesn’t break the bank. Hope you notice doc. You’ve been very helpful ❤️🙏

Love your tips! I used to have beautiful skin well into my late 20s, but then I developed a bad bout of eczema on my face that took months to a year to get rid of. Now, I’m 32 and my skin really hasn’t been the same since. The eczema really never completely goes away, and now I’m battling these tiny little bumps on my forehead I can’t seem to rid myself from. Which brings me to ask; is there an eczema friendly sunscreen out there that you’d recommend? Thank you ☺️

Hi, I'm not any kind of health professional, but I, too, have eczema. Look for a sunscreen for sensitive skin. You may want to look online (Cetaphil, Vanicream) or ask your pharamacist. You'll make it. 😊

@@PAMELAPORTER-ci7mr Thank you for your kind suggestion. I should have mentioned I’ve tried those ones before, but have an allergy to one of their ingredients. I like cereve. Seems similar to cetaphil. I used to use cereve for over 10years, but abruptly stopped it when the eczema flared. Never had a problem with it before, but now I’m trying to work it back into my skin care regimen again. Seems it’s getting better now.

@@B-yd2dm Thank you, I actually have been using tretinoin. It does seem to work. There’s just one troubling spot that just doesn’t seem to want to clear up from the eczema. But thankfully I’ll be going back to the dermatologist again soon, so I shall see. I appreciate that you reached out though. Thank you!

I don’t know if it’s eczema friendly but the best sunscreen I have ever tried (and I’ve tried lots) is the Beauty of Joseon sunscreen Relief Sun. No perfume, it leaves no whitecast and it doesn’t irritate my eyes so I guess it may also be good for sensitive skin but I’m not sure.

Eat well, sleep well enough each day, take care every day of your skin (clean and protect) and I guess that's it. Our skin reflects all these goods habits in life plus one. I have to say, our skin is genetic to. My mother had a perfect skin all her life. Even at 84 she was really beautiful. Her skin was like silk, pure perfection. My skin is the same close to 65. Hope these infos help.

As a chemist, the vitamin C topically is non sense... Vitamin C is not chemically inert or photo stable enough to do anything on your skin. Even if it was, it would degrade upon interaction with light. Collagen does not absorb into skin either. Vitamin C has to be in its active form (ascorbic acid) for it to be useful on the skin (and in high concentrations). Most often, it is in the form of orange peel or some other derivative, which means your skin has to do some conversions before it provides any benefits. Also, ascorbic acid in cream is normally formulated in about 10% concentration, which is far below the limit it needs to be active. GUYS PLEASE DO YOUR RESEARCH AND DON'T TAKE ALL THE ADVICE YOU SEE IN HERE. Some of the things are true yes but some other things such as vitamin C and when he claims "expensive luxury products are not worth it because they have no active ingredients..." idk...

I'm 67 and used Retinol & past 2yrs changed to Retinoid with no redness for 30yrs and sunscreen everyday & l barely use makeup & l use sunscreen also.. my neck is starting to wrinkle sagging slightly my face is firm & looking into a mid lift so Retinol - Retinoid - sunscreen has saved my face from less aging but we can't stop aging completely.

Hi! Thanks for all this useful info I've always had a question, everyone says we need to reapply sunscreen throughout the day, but do I just apply it directly on top, or should I wash my face again and THEN reapply? Especially if I've been out all day and a lot of dust and dirt has accumulated on my face

I wear a Lancome sunblock that is Tinted. They shipped it to me in error, but told me to keep it, and I am in love. I can put it on over my makeup throughout the day. I also use It Cosmetics CC Creams and Foundations with SPF 50. Those can also be reapplied throughout the day. When I am going to be out in the sun all day, I start with a moisturizer with sunscreen, and I bring it along and I can add more throughout the day without ruining my makeup. These are e different things I do that have all worked for me. If I am working and inside most of the day, I don't worry about reapplying my sunblock.
