This is my second time watching this video.. it’s so great!! I’m so undecided on what to plant..Part of my problem is avoiding the toxic vines due to my dog and it’s going to be in a container. Thank you so much for putting this information together, it has been so helpful to me! You are one of my favorite channels to watch on lunch break! 😁

I had a trellis along the side of my shed and added a second one. On them I grew both blue Morning Glories and the big white Moon flowers. Just as one was closing the other was opening. I could actually stand and watch them open over about 5 min time. For a short period of time the two would be open at the same time. The combination of the large flowers and leaves intertwined with a smaller version of the same shape went together very nice and I had flowers regardless of the time of day. Those moths are no joke. I thought they were Hummingbirds at first as they look and fly just like a Hummingbird. Unfortunately they also liked my tomatoes and placed their eggs on my tomatoes as well. I had to cover them with netting as it seems everything wanted to eat my tomatoes before I could. If you don't already protect your tomatoes from horn worms and grasshoppers etc, you'll want to if you want to eat the fruit from your own tomato plants. The plants along with the trellis was destroyed by the hurricane and I've not replaced any of my destroyed outdoor plants or vines yet so this video has given me some great ideas!

It's like you were reading my mind. I just wrote on my to-do list, last night, to look up native vines. I plan on putting a trellis in my native garden I have in my front yard. I wrote down all the names & plan on going shopping soon. Thanks again.

Great video! I was just thinking about looking into doing a native garden. I live in the Ocala area and am wondering what plants to choose, so this video came at the perfect time. And I’ve never considered a moon garden but am now loving the idea of having one!

The Carolina Jessamine also seems to be lethal to pets and kids (even a little). I have a dog who tries to eat everything so I stay away from anything toxic.

It is toxic to humans, pets, livestock ... and it is LETHAL to honeybees! (Beekeeper 👋) Be sure to know that. The survivor bees [living wild without beekeepers and boxes], will not visit it despite its abundance of flowers. European & Carolinian honeybees [as we know "honeybees"] do not know different, and will visit the flowers - soon to their fate. I personally ascribe to: only the strong survive. Healthy hives may lose a few lesser strength workers, but that's it. The amount of pollinators it brings in is good, the vine is lovely, and the blooms are GORGEOUS! My children know not to eat anything without looking it up first -or asking me- and my dog cares less as it's on top of the fence seeking sun.

Love this, I got a sky blue clustervine from Wilcox today. How do you think it or blue morning glory will do in a container with a large trellis? I don’t think I have the space to let them takeover my garden. And will the moth caterpillars really be an issue for my tomatoes?

Great video as usual. As a more edible gardener I love all the new plants and plant families you cover. So tempting especially the native morning glory species you covered.

Looking to make hummingbird Garden. What are your suggestions. I live in Arcadia Florida. I have a lot of shade. Thank you

In my garden, the favorites for hummingbirds are: Red Sage, Fire Bush & Coral Honeysuckle. In that order. I think Hummingbirds usually like the Coral Honeysuckle more than they do in my garden because when planted in shade the Coral Honeysuckle doesn’t bloom as much as it does in more sun. But our red sage actually does great in shade - at least in my garden. Same with the Fire Bush - though mine is a cultivar, not a straight species. I have native, cultivars & non-native Fire Bushes. Lol.

@@WildFloridian While I have you, a good video idea would be to cover FL Native plants and their plant communities/natural range, and taking pH into account. I know a lot of people plant natives and if it needs acidic or alkaline/calcareous soil (which they could see via FNPS plant profile), they are oblivious. So when their plant dies a slow death 😂 people are wondering why they planted natives just for it to die (because of pH) .. thanks for the content!

I have such a hard time with man in the ground!! 😭 we planted about 4 of them at once and they all died. Never came back, we tried again with 2-3 others, this lasted longer, but eventually died again :(. It’s the only native plant that for some reason is finicky for me. Any tips?!

Moon flower vines grow wild and COVER trees in my wild area of the property, but won't grow where I want them to in my moon garden. -_-
