For people running on a tight schedule like me Tip 1: dry shampoo Tip 2: cornstarch, cacao powder, or baby powder Tip 3: Alcohol wipes, or hand sanitizers Tip 4: style it away from your scalp Tip 5: head scarf, bandanas, hats, some sort of head covering Tip 6: change your parting line in your hair Tip 7: train your scalp to not wash everyday Tip 8: don’t use a lot of conditioner Tip 9: cut back on styling products Tip 10: don’t eat carbohydrates/ eat healthy For those to busy to watch a 7 minute video like I was, your welcome.
Dry shampoo makes my hair look like I have dandruff on top of being oily ughh. I wash my hair everyday cause it gets oily after 12 hours. My hair is really thin so when it does get oily I also look bald. I hate it.

I've found from personal experience that when I used hot water on my hair I had to wash it everyday. For about a year now I've been using lukewarm (baby safe temp) to wash my hair. Now I can get away with washing it only twice a week. With hot water by the next day it would look like I dumped oil all over my scalp. Now it doesn't look like that until day 3-4. So my question is does the water temp really make that much of a difference? Or is it the shampoo. I don't really stick with 1 brand for long. I always find ones that seem to work better. I also started using a tshirt instead of a towel.

Everyone always told me to try dry shampoo but no matter what dry shampoo I used, I could never see a difference. But I found this tip that you should apply it after washing it when it's clean and then keep applying it. I haven't tried it yet but will the next time I wash my hair. Another tip I found was to brush your hair with a bristle brush at night and in the morning to distribute the oils in your hair evenly.

One thing that you forgot to mention, although you have in other videos, is that curly hair can help hide access oil. My hair suffers so much during winter time because i shower with almost boiling hot water, and use the hair dryer everytime i wash it. When i was younger i found that doing this dried my hair a bit, but nothing too bad, but now that i'm a couple years older and in middle of teenagehood, my hair doesn't only dry out, but also gets really greasy at the scalp. I'm trying to skip a day of washing like i used to when i was younger, and also use warm insta¿ead of hot water. The thing that i've noticed helps is using dish soap every once in a while, cause it gets rid of all that grease, but when i've used it too ofte, it dries me out a little, so if you do it, take note of that and be careful.

(I'm aware of the fact that I might sound like a hater which is not my intention) I don't really understand why dry shampoo is better than "shower-shampoo", because both dry out your scalp and water doesn't damage your hair or dry out the scalp, so why do so many people consider dry shampoo as better/healthier than "shower-shampoo"?
@Tinkertotz13
7 жыл бұрын
It's because to use shower shampoo you have to, you know, take a shower. Which dries out your scalp when you do it too often. Hence the dry shampoo, it dries out your oily hair without you having to take away all the natural oil your scalp is producing. You shouldn't use it too often though, it's not an all out shower replacer. Just a temporary fix for oily hair. Also, the main reason I use mine, is it's a HUGE time saver for busy mornings. Take care of that second day/third day oil without having to take a 30 minute (for me lol) shower.

"Shower" shampoo is bad for your HAIR, not your scalp. The idea is to not dry out your hair, midshaft to ends. Dry shampoo is meant to be used at the base of the hair-not all over.

I cut back on shampooing my hair about a year ago - now usually shampoo twice a week. I found a recipe on Pinterest for a DIY dry shampoo that's effective. Combine 1 part cornstarch and 1 part baking soda. Add a drop or two of lavender essential oil (optional). I have silver gray hair so I don't need to add color. Using a large powder brush, I apply this to the inch of hair closest to my scalp before bedtime, and brush it out the next morning. It's important to use a light touch, even if it matches your hair, because you don't want to end up with a white scalp that shows in your part!

I have rarely in my life washed my hair daily, and when I was growing up I "homeschooled" (before anyone had even heard of it!) so it was less than every second day because no one saw my hair. Every time I went to hairdresser they mentioned how amazingly healthy my hair was. Probably in my mid-20s I started shampooing daily. Also I never had dye applied to my hair until my mid-30s, and after a couple of times of getting approximately annual highlights, on top of daily washing, my scalp has became dry itchy blemished. I have tried sulfate-free shampoo for 3-4 years and it has helped, but I did not realize that hair dye kills hair follicles so I had it highlighted (bleach, chemicals: YUK) at the salon again last year. As my hair grew out, I no longer had a couple of gray streaks in the sides, but it was growing out mostly gray from the top of my scalp and down the sides. People even mentioned that they were surprised how gray my hair was. Embarrassed and wanting to keep my youthful looks for now, I recently colored it again myself at home. Now I have clumps of hair coming out when I shower, and more when I comb it. My scalp is not helped as much even with sulfate-free. I came to this video as part of my attempt to heal my hair. Including using Zero chemicals. Mostly to heal hair follicles (to prevent hair loss as well as gray hair) the advice is: put more oil in your hair (such as fractuated coconut oil); there is an adjustment period of extremely greasy hair after you start treating your hair follicles better but it will level off. Homemade dry shampoo will help with this extra oiliness. ALSO, I recently had a bout with poison ivy and showered in LUKEWARM water every 2-3 days. My scalp has been feeling better, though I still have hair loss and graying, and I had another surprising effect. I usually use Eucerin on my super-dry sensitive skin on my body and cocoa butter everywhere else. I stopped applying this as well as Olay for sensitive skin on my face while the poison ivy took its course. Neither my dry skin on my body nor my face dried out after using lukewarm water and no lotions full of chemicals. Thanks so much for your videos! I'm about to watch some more tips for greasy or shoulder-length fine hair!

I also want to add that what you eat has an impact on your hair. Taking in plenty of vegetables and fruits daily not only helps you internally but also makes your hair stronger and helps prevent the onset of gray hair. Drinking plenty of water (staying hydrated) also helps. I've heard that berries (strawberries, blueberries, blackberries, etc) are the best fruit for your skin, so I imagine they are also excellent for your hair (which comes from a special part of your skin, your scalp). If you have been eating poorly and begin to change your diet, there will be an adjustment period for your internal functions as your body becomes accustomed to healthy healing choices.

Sarah Dyer I'm in the same boat as you! I also find that overnight works so much better than heat. Use a small amount of water (+ mousse if your hair is very straight) and make sure that your scalp is dry before braiding/whatever method you use. I have been growing out my bangs, and they have just reached to the point of going behind my ear, so that is one place my hair gets greasy, and the grease works it’s way up to my scalp by the end of the day, while the rest of my hair is not too too bad. Use it after washing to texture your hair and keep using it until your next wash. If you still feel oily apply more or try a different brand. Basically it's just powered that pulls oil away and you brush the oily powder out. There is no reason why this wouldn't work when applied correctly

So does not washing your hair often enough. Pores get clogged and kills your hair. Greasy scalp is the main reason men go bald. My poor husband started going bald early. He is so oily on his scalp area. My hair is very health and I wash it daily. I live in the south and sweating daily its a must or your scalp will not only be way to greasy but stink.

I will have to check on this. At first glance your statement makes no sense: dry hair breaks (hair loss). If you have hair loss the solution I have ALWAYS come across is to add more oil (sat, coconut oil) not less! Hair dye is one major cause of hair loss and also cause gray hair (damaged follicles). Perhaps you could link to information? It sounds like an unreliable source.

I think the only tip I could share is forgetting about your hair, especially if you usually wash it every single day. Just leave it alone for a few days (you can brush it or comb it of course but don't wash it) unless you have to go outside for work/school/social activities and you feel like you absolutely can't go out if your hair is ever so slightly greasy

Milabu does the dry shampoo by Pureology work because I know you use that brand a lot and my mom bought some for me to try

I Think it's Pla-Sha, (like beach in spanish. Maybe?) Do you leave the conditioner on for a few minutes?

I have fine/thin hair as well, I don't use conditioner when I wash my hair but I use a small amount of leave in conditioner before I brush it.. I forget what brand but it's a spray so I just spray like 2 squirts in my hand, rub them together and then run it through my hair and when I brush it, it gets out the excess. Should I skip the leave in and just use regular conditioner?

Milabu I think so lol my thinking behind doing it this way was that it wasn't weighing my hair down as much

I separate the back from the front, and just wash the front and style as usual! Soooo much better than dry shampoo. Oh, and I use cold water and lightly wash, just cleaning the surface oils. Hot water and scrubbing too hard is what dried out the hair.
