Timeless child is an awesome twist. For years we’ve had the point that his real name can never be spoken. That would tie up neatly with him being the “original” Timelord. Reverse the polarity of the Neutron flow Fun Fact: in 1938 Hitler was actually rescued by his guards after accidentally “locking himself in his office cupboard.” He was discovered by his secretary, it took three men to get the Fuhrer out, and the incident was covered up swiftly, with only his secretary breaking her silence after the war. To this day, nobody know how he ended up locked in there, but I like to think somewhere in 1938 New York, Rory Williams is sat smiling to himself knowing that somewhere in Berlin, his younger self is locking Hitler in a small closet.

Quick point about Davison talking about the Doc being male blah blah, He expanded on it in many places - his argument was about Male role models on TV/Film. He’s said the majority of male role models are in Action movies as fighters, physically imposing etc etc. He felt the Doctor being a non-violent, non-muscle bound, calmer male hero was a good thing. Basically saying that there is a need for Strong male role models on TV/Film but not just as the Action/Comic Book Hero format. I agree, but do note, as this vid says, his positive and supportive remarks were ignored. One comment of a couple of lines was taken and suggested as his only point. Even son-in-law David Tennant has agreed publicly with the point, but these voices are being ignored.

Like how the Doctor made himself human, Tecteun made The Doctor Galifreyan and if The Doctor ever opens the watch they will revert back to their born species. Also, Ruth Doctor is a future regeneration and was obviously pretending to be a past version that The Doctor forgot because well, spoilers.” To be clear. The speech always gets placed in a position where it's near the climax, like it's the major plot point, and it feels like the episodes are written around this central message rather than being a story that happens to have a political message. The atmos episode was blamed on aliens, yeah humans having car pollution was mentioned, but the main plot point centered around aliens, not the fact that the doctor was calling out humans for pollution. The problem is that they don't want The Doctor to act overly feminine because, since The Doctor has never done that before, it would indicate that certain traits are based on one's physiognomy and they don't want to portray that. Also, they don't want The Doctor to have overtly male traits either since they not only want to make this Doctor different, but because they don't want The Doctor to just seem like a male (which he always was before Whittaker) trapped in a woman's body. Hence, they leave the 13th Doctor in a sort of no-man's-land where she can't be like a man or like a woman; she can only be an as alien as possible piece of milquetoast. This is the corner that they have written themselves into.
@hmspretender

@@guimbelleaux I kind of agree with you. I don't think they would want 13 to act "feminine" because all evidence show that Time Lords exist "outside" of their corporeal forms, meaning they act pretty much the same no matter what their body looks like so if The Doctor was never flirty in his past why would she start now due to a genital change? I do think she got the job because she is a great actress and they could see her potential...now they just have to write like that. To me it's kind of like Capaldi's Doctor. I didn't much care for him during the first half of his tenure, but then he finally found what made his Doctor "tick" and really found his groove. They just need to get that writing up to par so she can really get going too.

1)Peter Davison was making a genuinely good point. Yes, females can be role models to males but it is important for boys to have MALE role models. So many male protagonists are action heroes that for years the Doctor had been a refreshing counter to that. That said I WAS on board with the gender swap originally. Missy is my favourite character of all time so I figured a female Doctor could be great too. And I still think that. Just not THIS female Doctor. Quite honestly I don't just wish a male had been cast. I just wish a more charismatic and versatile actress had been cast and that a COMPETENT showrunner and writers had been hired. 2) The Grahm Norton thing WASN'T really a controversy. It wasn't even the man's fault so people should quit bringing it up. Heck! He even made fun of it by putting a Doctor Who animated banner across the screen in the middle of HIS show. Drop it, people. 3)"Series 11 performed well in ratings" Quit kidding yourself WhoCulture! The ratings were utterly terrible and STILL ARE. While it started out with an incredibly high first couple episodes, once the novelty of the female doctor wore off the ratings tanked with a drop with almost every episode. Yes some of those ratings were higher than Capaldi, but his were at least STEADY which is a hell of a lot healthier than a nosedive. This continued into season 12 with a few jumps for things like the premiere and the return of Captain Jack (which was shoehorned in as a desperate ratings grab). The season finale which was supposed to give this "great reveal" and had the hell promoted out of it was the LOWEST FINALE IN NUWHO and one of the lowest IN THE HISTORY OF THE SHOW. People are walking away but the BBC continues to be in denial about the ratings. 4)People complained about the lastest era being preachy BECAUSE IT IS. The messages are no longer woven into the narrative while story and character's take precedence. Now they hit you over the head with the message like it's a sledgehammer. It's patronizing, boring, annoying, and people don't like it. Doctor who was political before but NORMALLY the agenda didn't overpower the story. 5) You know things are bad when the era is being criticized by MULTIPLE significant people in the franchise -Anneke Willis (Polly) -Fraiser Heinze (Jaime) -Andrew Cartmel -RTD -Peter Davison (5th Doctor) 6) The Timeless Child is the worst freaking storyline to be ever put in Doctor Who. Chibnall has ROYALLY F-ED up the show. The whole thing is contrived, disrespectful, and creates unnecessary plotholes. It goes against the very message of the show! Not to mention it was the last straw for many of the Whovians who dislike this era. Thanks, Chibs for ruining my favourite show! If the show is going to have any chance of returning to its former glory there is going to need to be some SERIOUS damage control. I just hate to think about what he'll do in series 13. I'll at the very least be interesting to see how much damage this retcon will do to the ratings. (For the record if you like this era I don't understand it but good for you.)

I'm honestly surprised that the "half human" line from the 1996 movie isn't on this list. Not sure which one I would knock off to make room for it, but I remember it causing a lot of huff at the time. I guess (?) its no longer controversial since the now status quo seems to be to ignore it. Also, while not top ten worthy anymore, Romana's regeneration probably would have made top ten prior to NuWho. That scene got talked about constantly on the usenet forums back in the day.

Honestly, I agree with Davison. There aren't many pacifist male heroes who rely almost exclusively on a non-violent and diplomatic solution, and pacifist female heroes are kinda a stereotype. Regardless, I also agree she's a great actress, and she's doing a great job considering what she has to work with. She still feels like the Doctor, even if I disagree with the casting. We really could have done so much worse than Whittaker, and she was the right call for a female Doctor.

I will not comment pro or con on the Timeless child but I will add this. In the original series specifically with the later doctor's, they made frequent references not only to the fact that the Doctor was older than he let people know but that he was familiar with the dark times and Rasilon (sp). Implying that he lived during the dark times and new Rasilon (sp) personally.

Slightly misleading to suggest that the Colin Baker era was unpopular while the McCoy era was a ratings success. Season 22 held respectable figures of around 8 million, which while not the highest the show ever got, certainly not the lowest by that time. The McCoy era, on the other hand, was deliberately stymied by the BBC's decision to schedule it against ITV's Coronation Street. The reason for this decision has been met with various theories, but the one I'm inclined to believe comes from Russell T Davies himself, during an article for Doctor Who Magazine a good few years ago now. Basically, while on a BBC training course in the 1980s, Davies asked the lecturer why they decided to pit Who against Corrie. The answer, as related by RTD, was "suicide", accompanied by a cruel smile. Frankly, if the McCoy era had been shown on Saturdays - or even Sundays - it wouldn't have been cancelled at that time.

The Timeless Child could have been used to bring The Other into full canon. Have Tecteun and The Child be the origins of The Other legend whose stories were combined in legend in the later years of The Dark Times. So The Doctor isn't the true Timeless Child but using how they did the The Other's fate in the VNA's it could lead that The Doctor is closely linked to rather than being The Timeless Child
@jdggaming5764

I can fix the timeless child dilemma in two sentences (with some loose ends but nothing that couldn't be fixed with a bit of proper writing) so here we go: The master misread the files saying that the doctor is the timeless child and it says that he is instead. And since he was killed right then and there by practically destroying every one of his atoms he would be unable to regenerate. BOOM!

Great video, but 9:08 "...meaning that the Doctor is basically a god, responsible for the creation of the Time Lords as we know them" - This is a common misunderstanding. If anyone created anything, it was Tecteun, not the Timeless Child/Doctor, and Tecteun - not the TC/Doctor- would have been the "god" in that scenario. Besides, all Tecteun did was to create _regenerating Shobogans,_ who did not have the ability to travel in time, build TARDISes, etc. The Shobogans would have to wait until Rassilon and Omega perfected time travel and dimensional engineering before they could become true "Time Lords", and regeneration on its own wouldn't have given them that privilege. It's not as if regeneration defines the Time Lords anyway, and it isn't even unique in the Whoniverse; other races/species, like the Kastrians and Minyans, also have the ability.
@danthemeegs8751

Personally, I think the Timeless child over complicated. They could have easily said that the rules of regeneration were actually more like guidelines and were put in place to stop the time lords abusing death. To put it another way, they regenerate as much as they want. But don't like messing with the balance of life and death.

It would also make sense with the master being the tc instead of the doctor. Because it gives him a superiority complex thinking he’s invincible and what not. I haven’t seen much of the master so i cant say with certainty but based on s11-12 i think they only made the doctor the tc because she probably wouldve found it difficult getting involved with the master. If u get what i mean. But a few tweaks would certainly make for a good tc master. More so towards the end of the season

The Doctor didn't kill Shockeye, unless his species are allergic to chloroform. All through my childhood, I saw people holding cloths soaked in chloroform over other people's faces. It was a 60's / 70's trope. The 'victims' always recovered. Medically speaking, it's frowned on, and COULD result in death, but in fiction, it was a means of incapacitating someone, not killing them. In fact, I was amazed when someone suggested the Doctor had 'killed' Shockeye. Bloody awful story, though. Pure propaganda for the veggie brigade
