I don’t typically read romance but that Alyssa Cole storyline sounds brilliant and I am going to have to buy it and give it a go. I recently listened to Heavy as well and the audiobook was spot on, I love listening to nonfiction on audio (especially when narrated by the author), it really adds to the experience. My goodness so many of your picks have got incredible covers - they are all books you would want to have facing out on your shelves for everyone to admire!

YES to With the Fire On High,and Opposite of Always!! I absolutely loved and DEVOURED both of those books so quickly. I totally agree with you on not having many books centered around black boys that don’t involve a form of trauma. I’m loving that we are finally seeing more and more fluffy and happy contemporary stories featuring black teens just living their BEST life!!! Now I really want to read Heavy and The Warmth of Other Suns so I’m going to have to look for copies of those!!

I also loved The Opposite of Always!!!! You just put into words what I felt while reading the book. It was so refreshing to read about a Black teen who had all of these really positive relationships in his life. And Justin A. Reynolds captures the voice of the main character, also our narrator, in a way that was humorous and felt authentic. It can be really hard to capture the voice of a teen when you’re writing as an adult, and I felt he really tapped into something real. I’m so glad to see someone else rave about this book on Booktube!
@LEFTONREAD
5 жыл бұрын
Elise Moser yes!!! It really did feel authentic. Did not feel like an adult writing as a teen! That’s really a good way to put it. Many YA do not always actually feel like the voices are or teens. Happy someone loved it as much as I did!

Ohhh snap New Hair who's this?!😍 The Love & Lies of Rukhsana Ali is such an emotional read I'm still emotional about it I might have to do a quick blurb review for it without tearing up on camera. I definitely want to read Just Mercy and I definitely want to visit the sites he mentioned in his early childhood since he live in Delaware and a classmate of mine mentioned that it's close where we live. Opposite of Always is one of July's book choices for A Seat at The Table; not gonna lie it wasn't until recently that I started to get into the Time Traveling Trope but that's due to awesome fanfics, I hadn't found a published book yet that makes me love the trope without DNFing it, but maybe this maybe it.

So glad you loved Heavy. It is a lot, but wow, it was so good. As for Just Mercy, I read it as well as listened, and I think on audio might have even been better. If your library has it on overdrive, definitely give it a listen. As for Friday Black I LOVED it. I also acknowledge it is different. I feel like either you will love it or be like what in the world?
