I also was mesmerized by Strange weather in Tokyo... I just finished "Things That Make One's Heart Beat Faster " by Mia Kankimäki. In search of Sei Shonagon, a Japanese writer and lady-in-waiting who wrote about her life in the court of Heian era Japan. Are you familiair with Persephone Books, a bookshop and editor located in Bath? They reprint neglected fiction and non-fiction, mostly by women writers and mostly dating from the mid-twentieth century.

Ooooh I love those recommendations! I can’t wait for The Anthropologist to be published, eagerly waiting for my copy! And I’ve just bought Strange Weather in Tokyo, you totally convinced me (I was not convinced before as I think that the man is much older than the woman but we’ll see what happens!). Please make more books related videos 🥺❤️

Hi Jenny! Great set of books! I do have a recommendation, not sure if it fits with summer, but a marvelous book for sure - “Death with Interruptions” by José Saramago. Hoping you give it a shot! José Saramago is one of the best authors Portugal has ever seen 😊

Every summer I feel a sudden and very strong urge to read Balzac. No idea why. So I tend to read Balzac every year. Also Faulkner and his descriptions of the heavy summer heat is always good.

My summer reads would be: Okay Days (seriously I loved loved it) Call me by your name (amaizing) probably Conversations with Friends Margueritte Duras Little Horses of Tarquinia (very similar vibes to Bonjour Tristesse I think), The Stranger by Sandor Marai too Many books by Patrick Modiano could be on this list I think maybe Kyoto by Kawabata would make that list too.

I have read Reunion because you recommended it. Such a beautiful story. I just finished 2 little books: A Shining by Jon Fosse (Nobel Prize 2023) and Cheese by Willem Elsschot, a Flemish author. An old book but still so relevant today. Curious what you think. Have you already read a Flemish book?
