Mike, I’ve lived in TN all of my life. I met Buford as a kid, and I’ve always been aware of the liberties that the movie took with the truth. I was in law enforcement and my grandfather was a sheriff in TN during the moonshine heyday. He was killed in the line of duty, and my Grandmother finished his term. Some men commented that she wasn’t fit nor would she win an election, so she ran and won, serving another term. She earned the nickname, Dickless Tracy. I swear I’m not lying. For years I thought I was being lied to. My other grandfather was a Hardin County resident and he explained to me how Buford was actually viewed in the area. It’s no secret now, why the movie was not filmed in McNairy County. I have just started your video series and I am finding it very interesting. You will no doubt, upset many trolls. Your search for the truth will not be comforting to the masses, but the truth seldom is. I’m sure the autopsy of Pauline will be enlightening. Keep up the good work.

Awesome interview! I've been a McNairy County resident all of my life and most of the stories I've heard about Pusser through my lifetime were right the opposite of all the films. Even down to the fact that he never carried a stick. My dad has a very interesting story about Buford.

At approx. 21:50 you claim that the IRS had a lien on the State Line properties because Jack had failed to pay property taxes. That would be FALSE. The IRS has nothing to do with property taxes. Those are local city/county taxes.

I dont recall the year that me and my family went to mcnairy county while also visiting some relatives on my mother's side in raimer. we did go to the cemetary where th epussers were laid to rest, and it was very small, in the movie I believe the funeral was placed at a cemetary in jackson mississippi because it was larger and could build up a big crowd. Now what Ive seen as far as pauline being raised up doesnt look anything like the actual graveside which was very small and barely wide enough to drive on the little road. When we visited another relative on my mother's side in adamsville., his son was then police chief of adamsville. The boy I cant speak about, his dad though wasant to fond of pusser.

My question, There's a lot more places a Lot closer to Chicago that they could have robbed where No One would have known them. Why drive 700+ miles to a place that the possibility of being recognized was great to commit a robbery. I just can't see the logic, But with that being said W.O. Identified Buford it's not like he would have made a mistake in that as Buford was very Identifiable because of his height. This whole incident has never made sense to me.

One of my older brothers went 2 Ole Miss on a baseball scholarship. This when Buford wuz sheriff. Along wit a few other of the athletes they would ride the roads, drinkin beer. Whn that movie came out I asked him if he knew anythang bout Buford. As it turns out they had been up on state line at one of the joints one day an Buford came n. The 1st thang my brother told me wuz ‘ yea we ran n2 him a time or 2. He wuz nuttin like the movie. If u paid him off he’d let u operate. If u didn’t he’d shut u down.’ Buford actually ran them outta one those joints one day. My brother wuz a big, badass who loved 2 fight. I asked him why they let him run them outta the joint. He said Buford wuz a bad dude & they wuznt bout 2 cross him.

Prosecution failed to perform their job. Someone should have conducted a thorough investigation at their employment, etc. Look at all the people that stated they all were there in both bars. Buford needed some extra cash since he was recently married. Pusser was a low life criminal, period. Pusser told his two buddies at work, about the club that he was very familiar with, could easy be robbed, so, they went there and did the deed. Not rocket science folks. 37 years of investigation work, if it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck, well, for sure it is a duck. Buford was a lifelong vile low rent criminal. He got what he deserved but should have got it sooner.

I have been keeping up with your research for several years now. I’ve also watched the videos in this series and just finished your book. There isn’t any doubt the movies are way over the top. Anyone with an IQ near room temperature could see that. I first saw them in the late 70s. However they are fun to watch and they bring back some memories from the ‘70s era. My personal opinion is that Buford Pusser wasn’t very different from most other sheriffs in the south from that era, and that the truth lies somewhere in the middle ground (leaning your direction )of your research and what others who advocate a more favorable view of Buford. I do like how you provide documentation to reinforce what you say. I grew up, and still live, in a rural county much like McNairy County. There have been three sheriffs of my county during my lifetime. The one we have now is a good man. The two I’ve known before him were much like Buford Pusser. Did that make this a bad place to live? No, but it did raise questions at times. When I watch Walking Tall it fascinates me how the “joints” are exactly like the places we had spread out around here back then - minus the trailer trade.😊 Dennis is exactly right in his comments about how those places were viewed back then. The men would get all boozed up, spend the rent money, and go home crying to their wives about how somebody must have robbed them down at that evil joint while they were drinking cokes and discussing farming.😅 I do appreciate what you do and Dennis along with the others who are willing to talk about their experiences. That’s not an easy thing to do.

I think much of McNairy County would be a great place to have lived back then (minus the poor employment opportunities. People from the area said you didn't have any problems as long as you didn't go to the state line. Many places in the south were similar as were there sheriffs.
