Those camp showers are not just for if your water heater goes out. If you or your family car camps, just camps, or has an RV but want to save propane and water, you can fill them up from any water source, such as a stream, leave it setting in the sun, black side up, and shower away! One side is black to heat the water up!

Exactly, we all might think we don't need any of this stuff (and it doesn't have to be these items specifically, just the type of items in general), but then some freak of nature comes along and humbles us 😂. I was recently watching a video regarding the 2021 freeze that hit Texas and shut a lot of the state down, first from very icy roads that caused horrible pileups, then the loss of electricity (with no state mandate for monoxide alarms, many people died in their homes by bringing in heating sources meant for outside, or by sitting in turned on cars in closed garages). Then, after the ice began to thaw, water pipes burst all over people's homes. I knew it had been bad but had never known just how bad it had been. I have family in Houston but thankfully, they weren't affected...somehow. Flooding from hurricanes is another matter, but one sibling lives in a high rise and my younger brother just moved out on his own...so I'll need to inquire if his spot is up high or far back from any flooding areas. I live in central Alabama, so most hurricanes are dulled by the time they reach us, but I've still lost power a time or two. And a tornado can wreck my sh*t at any time, so...I should give survival gear a little more thought 😅

Excellent roundup, Matt! I have two of the original LuminAID pillow style lanterns from 10+ years ago. The main part of it eventually failed but the light still works. These were developed by a couple of students after the 2010 Haiti earthquake. Portable, foldable, solar and safe light for disaster victims. They've donated them across the world after disasters but also for daily use in underdeveloped areas. Wood for fires and fuel oil/kerosene is expensive and these folks are desperately poor, not to mention the indoor pollution from burning lanterns every night. I found it a worthwhile cause. They still donate their products ten years later and make it easy for customers to contribute as well if they choose to. Thank you so much for highlighting a good product and a better cause.

You should look at the Vesta heater ( I have one, won't be without), and the instafire oven. Both work safely and efficiently. In the event of a prolonged power outage, they can keep you warm and fed - yes, you can cook with the vesta. The emergency blankets are wonderful. Use a blanket between your body and the blanket. I used them when I was homeless and had crinkly, but survivable nights when the temps went to zero and below. I'd suggest if money's tight, save up for one item at a time. One might not need "name brands" but just buy the same thing that's affordable and upgrade later. I live in NM- here, a car can go off the road in the summer/winter and not be seen for a day or more. Having these in a plastic container in the trunk could be the difference between life and death. I'd add a 12 volt blanket- use the car's battery or add a small power station (keep maintained).

As an emergency management and preparesnes professional, I was pleased to see you offer this video. Had a couple miscues on the use of a couple things but the benefit here is that the average person can use these products easily even if they dont camp. Everyone should have some basic preparedness capabilities in place. People have the mistaken notion that that the goverment will take care of them and that is just not the case. They are a band aid to initiate recovery. Each of us are responsible for our preparedness and recovery. With the increasing number and severity of storms it takes a complete fool not to have some level of preparedness for theselves and their family. So thanks for sharing these products, sharing your thoughts and the demonstrations. Might want to brush up on proper use of a couple things but hey, I am more concerned you were able to make use of those items. The rest is easily learned. Thanks for bringing preparedness to your offerings..
