How can you forget Bic lighters. They last forever (not the fuel), these lighters themselves and they are dirt cheap to keep a set in the house. I also bought a Nitecore NWE30. It is an alarm system that you can turn on if you're trapped in a car or collapsed building or you're stuck in a ditch or something. Whistles are great, but that uses up your energy, energy that is needed in most of those disastrous situations.

Great suggestions. One small issue but a important issue non the less. You are using filter and purify interchangeably. Filters pull out bacteria, vs purifying kills it all to include viruses. In most of the United States, a filter like the sawyer, works well. In areas one might find viruses, a bandana to filter the bigger stuff, and follow it up with steripen to uv purify it would be a great option. Thanks for a great video!

Water Filter, Food of preference, shelter, tarps tents, fire starting, lighter- Ferro rod, both a good knife and a multi tool, flashlights, headlight, lantern, power bank/ power station, emergency radio. The best emergency radio is the Kaito Voyager KA500L. It`s best to get a small folding solar panel with USB outputs to charge them though. You can get them cheap on Amazon if you look for deals regularly. I found a 22 watt double USB folding solar panel yesterday for seven dollars and several smaller wattage ones for under 15. I've had a Coleman multifuel stove for years, which was sadly underutilized due to the lack of camping opportunities. I've often wondered if getting it was even a good idea (it was a trade), but I was reassured when you mentioned it here so prominently. And why, you ask? Because I was caught up in that Texas Freeze: my own power was not out long, but a friend's was, and I had to "host" someone for several days. So I know very well, what you're talking about.

Any Coleman white gas stoves will run on unleaded the multi-fuel ones are a marketing gimmick the same goes for the lanterns , I have 45 lanterns and 18 stoves from 1919 to the ones sold today , I run them all on unleaded gasoline with no problems . The only difference is the silver paint and the markup on the multi-fuel ones , I have converted a few lanterns to run on white gas , unleaded , diesel , and kerosene , the stoves I just run on unleaded because it is easier to find and way cheaper than the white fuel

i have been heating my house with wood for the last 7 years and have probably tried every gimmick for heating and light that i thought might have merit . what i have found works every time is a 1lb propane bottle and a torch head and a lighter. i can get questionable damp wood going with a few seconds of keeping the lit torch on the small damp sticks. once the fire is going , light is not a problem, heat is not a problem, purifying water is not a problem. i generally can get a 1lb propane bottle and torch to last all winter without even trying. using that propane camp stove to me is impracticle due to the expense of having to carry a seperate item for heating water or food which can also poke holes in other gear , doesnt flatten out so takes up space for other things and using to cook the entire meal wastes a lot of gas that could be put to better use.

As good as these are you need a wind screen, you need a measuring device to measure the amount of gas left in the cylinder, you need an alternate method if you are not near a walmart, or sporting good store. @@AnythingOutdoorswithSteve exactly the biggest issue with battery packs with built-in solar panels, besides the pathetic power generation, is that they overheat in the sun. Just a gimmick. I do have one with a triple folding panel that attaches to the power bank but even that barely does anything.

I used to carry a first aid kit in my car. I live in the desert and temps can exceed 115 for weeks at a time. I found that the bandages in the kit were worthless because the heat ruined the adhesive.

Newbie too. I feel like if we are watching the walking dead the propane tanks will only run until they don't. I think thats for ppl who arent comprehending the shtf totality. I ordered a firestarter and some of the lil packs of firestarter pouches. I feel like those will be good to have but once they run out we still need to start a fire with elements from nature. A person in the comments said he heats his home with wood. He stated a 1lb propane n torch last him through the winter without trying. Idk what i do know is im scared not of a zombie apocalypse (though that im for sure prepared for lol) but of wanting to protect n take care of my parents. Glad tidings sister Marcella. Assalamu alaykum peace be unto you.😊

Sorry for all the comments... I have that exact same charger. Are you able to fully charge it via solar? Mine and a few coworkers' only get to about 2 bars with the sun. I'm not complaining, it was a gift from my employer and I have it on me almost at all times. I love it. Built in flashlight, 2 ports, super compact, excellent battery

1. Disagree with propane stove. It runs out of fuel. It can explode. Better option is a wood burning type stove. It will last as long as you have wood etc to burn in it.

Okay on the solar power bank I also have one just like that and it's a good power bank but as far as charging your phone with it using the solar panel it's just too small if you charged it all day in the sun in ideal conditions you couldn't put 30% on your phone you could not put 30% on your phone it's kind of a gimmick so I bought one of the fold out ones and use it in conjunction with that because that is a strong power bank so together they do work be careful with that I learned it from campers that took it and it didn't really charge enough it's too small but the pole that one that's like mine is the neck tech and it comes under different names you can hang out backpack but it really does work just in a few minutes in the Sun and charge my phone like 4% just as fast as if it was plugged into the wall and it wasn't even indirect sunlight just in sunlight and I paid less than $50 for it on Amazon.

Almost all of those things are temporary. Batteries and propane run out, purifiers age, meals are eaten, supplies disappear through use. The BEST thing you can have is a nice, sharp knife and a skillset. Learn how to survive with just a knife and you'll never want for anything.

Water filters filter water, they don't purify it--it's not the same thing. If you are truly concerned about water quality you filter it first, then purify it. Two separate steps. Or you can just roll the dice on how badly you might get sick.

Your relying on too many battery-powered devices , I lived in Maryland and moved to Florida where we have some really bad storms and every few years we lose power and water , trust me an old Coleman lantern & stove is the way to go , screw propane the stores run out of it very fast and both the stove & lanterns will run on unleaded , unleaded you can get from your car during a emergency

It`s best to get small folding solar panels with USB outputs to charge USB power banks and NI-MH and 18650 batteries using USB chargers. They can be used to directly power USB fans during the day. You can get them cheap on Amazon if you look for deals regularly. I found a 22 watt double USB folding solar panel yesterday for seven dollars and several smaller wattage ones for under 15. I also bought a 30 watt panel for 28 dollars and a 19 watt one for 23. Just search for "folding solar panel" and then choose "Under $25" in the options on the left. Anyone who still buys regular batteries exclusively is touched in the head. All my radios, lights, fans, WIFI, small refrigerator and freezers can be powered by rechargeable batteries charged by solar while only using a small gas generator for backup charging if it`s cloudy.

You really going to run your Coleman stove and lanterns on unleaded gasoline? Gasoline with lead is very hard to find, its been banned for many decades. Anyway, if in an emergency, you decide to run gasoline in your stove and lanterns, then you too can be another emergency, I am sure you are using these inside with the windows and doors shut, Good luck to you
