When I was a little kid, I remember at a mall close to where I lived there was this giant clock that took up 2 floors of the mall and reminded me of a marble machine but told time by using basketballs in a complex system of pullies and shoots. It was absolutely amazing. Every 10 seconds it would activate some feature, such as running a ball through some chimes or bells or whatever. Of course every 6th one would be collected as a minute. Once it reached an hour, it would go absolutely crazy. Of course it was impossible to see what happened at midnight since the mall was closed, but now that I think about it, I really wish I could have been there to see it. The mall has sense died and faded away, along with that clock, but I'll never forget how cool it was! The mall in question was called "Forest Fair Mall" in Cincinnati, Ohio.

You've triggered a memory for me here: I live in the UK and hadn't ever visited the US before 2007, but in a shopping mall about 20 miles from me - The Ashley centre, Kingston (Surrey) - There was a performing clock which matches the one you describe, and I think the Ashley one used the same „displays“ as Forest Fairs. It's possible it was a pattern design by a company which specialised in performing clocks (A few did, at the time) and probably appeared in several malls around the world. Back then it would be very rare for anybody seeing one clock to be aware of other locations the same design could be found (While today, Google Lens tells you where they _all_ are in a heartbeat!) making each seem unique and bespoke, something most malls would want shoppers to associate them with. 😇

The exact phrase was "apparently it has no mechanically moving elements". I can see how it works by using an array of magnets and electricity to change which set of magnets has the charge needed to pull the fluid to the right area. The fluid itself is not a mechnical structure. That's more of gears spinning, armatures, and such.

@odinborson308 you are the only one who got offended. Four years have passed and no one else in the world got offended except for you. My comment is not even something to get offended. It's a pun, a joke. I'm sorry you were so triggered by a four-year-old joke. Btw, my comment could also mean that the clock creators have a lot of time, meaning they have many clocks (many time)! You didn't even think about that interpretation, didn't you?

@@hereLiesThisTroper Everyone has their own perspective to see things. Maybe others didn't want to say because they didn't see it my way. When I say "Others", that doesn't include me. I was referring artists and engineers who sacrifice their time and energy for something innovative, breathtaking and beautiful. I felt like it was somewhat wrong and I wanted to express this by an example. If something is wrong and nobody gave attention to it for very long time, it doesn't make it right. If your intention wasn't harmful then I should be the one to ask for forgiveness.
