The part where you teach Odin a 6C+ (way above his grade but probably a grade a LOT of people are stuck on) is really great. Telling him how to hold the holds and where and why(!) is really interesting to watch. We would all love a teacher like Magnus but I would recommend to make more content where you teach some (able) person to climb 6C+-7A+. I feel like these grades are where everyone gets stuck eventually. I've seen people fly from 5A to 6C in a month or two, I've seen people go from 7B to 7C in weeks, but never from 6C to 7A(+)! Content about this would be super fun for your average climbers

I want to notice something here, not many people know about it, just an interesting fact imo. 14:16 Odin does backlever and the important point is that his fingers point towards feet. 14:26 Magnus does backlever and his fingers point towards his head. The Odin's version is really difficult, if you're too weak and don't know how to use muscles you might injure your elbows (I tried it once and my elbow hurt for over 1 month lol). The Magnus version is a lot easier, it kinda "locks itself" and the hard part is to keep hollow body in this position, it's also way safer. :)
@iconoclastvii
2 жыл бұрын
It's an odd move. The tension across the upper back makes it more difficult to allow the body to drop through the arms enough to actually be a proper lever, so you get a lot of people just sort of curling at the waist to try to get the feet low enough to count it. Helps a lot to have a spotter take your weight as you let the body drop through your arms a bit and then sort of re-engage and try to lift off your spotter's hand(s). Climbers don't spend much time in an outcurve, or superman position, which is basically the shape the body has to try to hold in order to properly do a back lever. I rambled more than I thought I was going to...
@Asdfghjkl-ls1or
2 жыл бұрын
Supinated is not necessarily harder than pronated, it just puts a lot more stress on the bicep and can be really dangerous if you don't do them regularly (like magnus). It's much easier to cheat in the pronated grip however by squeezing you arms against your lats but it can be done with clean form as well. Well noticed though, these small visual differences can cause massive differences in difficulty

I've started climbing recently and apart from a few 6a+, all I've been able to do is 5+, but 5+ seem to be extremely varied in difficulty. Some of them feels like climbing a ladder, while other are completely impossible for me at this stage. And the ones I tried were all set by the same person as well. It's a bit annoying, because it means that the gym only has a handfull of boulders that are doable for me without being to easy.
@francescogressani7597
2 жыл бұрын
The same boulder could feel difficult for me but easy for u, and vice versa. Grades usually are just an average of how it feels for many people, so you shouldn’t fixate on that so much. Try some 6a and 6a+ more, and you’ll probably find out that with practice you can do many more. Also, try a class and you will notice the difference when you have an expert giving you beta and teaching technique. Good luck on your climbing!
@16m49x3
2 жыл бұрын
It all depends on what skill the crux relies on. If it's simply pulling power, then the average man will feel its very easy, while the average woman will struggle for example, while if it relies on balance or flexibility it can go the other way. Some skills like being able to pinch is simply impossible for most people in the beginning I feel. And slopers like the one Odin struggled on is really horrible without the finger strength and experience. Some footholds also rely so heavily on shoes/trusting your feet that they can feel super difficult, but suddenly you can do a challenge 2 grades over your max if you just practice where to place your feet many many times Some times the key to doing the problem is technique. Hooking with your feet, using the right hand/foot, pushing down with your hands instead of pulling up, holding your hand the correct way, or moving your weight in the correct direction, these things are a matter of practice and experience, and can make an impossible problem super easy with the exact same physique. Sadly problem setters are also human, and probably good climbers. so its really hard for them to tell what will be difficult for a 5+ climber, however I can assure you that if you climb twice a week, you should transcend that level in just a few months anyway.
@kft4764
2 жыл бұрын
You very likely have the strength to do those boulders, just haven't figured out the technique yet. At those grades high strength is generally not required. If you feel like you are working too hard, you likely are. Try to find the position of stability at each hold and basically move from one stable position to another. If the position is unstable you will be using unnecessary strength to try to force it. Best of luck and figuring it out is a big part of the fun of climbing!
@awakenergaming
2 жыл бұрын
Good news is you can always make your own boulder problems. Take a climb you find easy and after every completion pick a hold to get rid of. I just recently learned about this 'game' and think it'll help spice it up my 8 hour sessions xD.

you're new to climbing, so you're gonna be really inconsistent in your level across different styles.
