Great info, many thanks to you. It's my first year really gardening and I had a rogue sunflower come up next to my beets. I let it grow for shade and was just absolutely giddy seeing that you had some big ol sunflowers around your root crops too. I for sure want to incorporate them in to my garden every year in almost every bed just for the fall planting options. Seeing the shade that just 1 sunflower casts seems like it's going to be an absolute win for my little garden in Utah. Thanks again, happy growing.

After last years bumper harvest of beets, this year they havent sprouted at all. Cabbages didnt take either. We've had a wet summer, the warmth has only just arrived (End of July) The weeds are growing in the raised beds tho. Tomatoes going well. Garlic harvest was stupendous. Broccoli has spouted massive elephant ears style leaves bit little else so far.

There are some under sized squash on the plants but by the looks of the plants I don't think they'll get any larger. Can they still be used? Did I plant them too early? Hi quick question! I'm new to all this so a fall garden will be my 1st. If I'm doing big containers for some things, my question is what kind of soil should I be using exactly? Like specifically raised bed soil, or soil labeled for containers only? I saw that you were using some top soil, but I was told that top soil is too heavy, and to have loose soil, so I wax just wondering!
@THERUSTEDGARDEN

So it is confusing and I really recommend you watch my bagged soil videos. I explain all of it in detail. I have one from early this summer that is really helpful. I'm gonna try this since I haven't started any Cole/ fall weather stuff yet. Have you started your transplants like this before? I have a grow tower I was thinking of growing my collard in should I start the collards in grown or trays since I want to put in grow tower. My beds are taller some anyway and they don't have no actual top soil in them just compost peat moss on top I filled most with a coffee and soil mix compost I bought.

I have a small worm bin for small bits of veggie scraps and grass clippings, I use their castings and used coffee grounds! I also have a compost bin outside but if you can’t do that, try the coffee beans and small worm bin! Also, there are some plants you can use, such as borage and comfrey. Grow it, chop it down, chop it into bits and use like mulch or try making a “compost tea” with it!
