I’m so happy to see the tip about not over modernizing an older home to the point that the original character is lost. I have a 1931 craftsman with the original woodwork and my friends we surprised when I restored what I could (woodwork, floors, plaster) and kept any renovations within the “spirit” of the home’s original style. The most modern space is my kitchen, which is mostly neutral. Everyone expected me to rip everything out to make it “new”. lol, I bought a craftsman house bc it’s a craftsman!

I agree with almost everything in this video, except-I have a Stiffel chandelier with hand cut crystals. I use incandescent chandelier bulbs, BUT always on a dimmer to make the light a soft yellow glow that bounces off the crystals brilliantly! For everything else, I really detest the bare bulbs with the blindingly harsh light.

I love your video but don’t understand the disdain for mass produced art. Not many of us have the budget or the inclination to DIY art. I’ve gotten a lot of art from Target and Home Goods. They look pretty good. There are a few I regret. I’ve also gotten art off Etsy. I think if a piece of art work makes you happy, go for it!

I dont think he hate "mass produced art" cuz it cheap, he hate it cuz every house/apartment got the same stuff. And supporting your local artist is better than buying soul less stuff that corpo churning out for pure profit.

Most of these things are just lame choices ignorant people make but destroying period homes THAT is criminal.

Thank you so much for saying that about “modernizing” homes. I’m tired of seeing people destroy beautiful old homes and sterilize them into having no personality or warmth to them whatsoever.

I have an empty wall in my entry hall. I've decided to go with an atrium vibe wallpaper mural. It's a bit scarey (and pricey) to go that route, but the wall is simply too empty without something on it, and there is zero room for any other sort of wall art, as guests will sit on an entry hall bench in front of it.

Fantastic tips! I've often wondered how the designers make LED strips look so seamless and elegant instead of garish. Also I've been guilty of the "everything in the same neutral" - I'm learning so much!! PS love your beige jumper -- looks beautifully polished on camera! Xo from Canada ❤️

Agree 100% with the LEDs. They already look tacky and childish to begin with but thatns to online personalities every sheep out there wants to jump on the trend and put LEDs everywhere...

I beg your pardon. Not all people use them because they're trending. Some of us plant parents use them for their plants that would burn to a crisp if put too closely to a window or window areas that don't get enough sunlight. I actually don't give 2 toots what anyone "thinks" about it because at the end of the day, I'm the one living there.

For years I didn't buy lamps because it seemed wasteful when we had so many can lights, but I started adding lamps in the last few years and it really makes a huge difference in creating mood and energy in our living space. Glad you touched on this topic

I have a question for you ......why you point out the same design aspects which are dated, not pleasing to the eye, poor quality etc etc. You as an ID should tried not to do what others have done 7 months prior. Being original, daring and unique is a great part of ID.

You answered a question just by the simple phrase of, “You should only be displaying what is functional, sentimental or beautiful to you”. I recently replaced an ottoman with a coffee table. Everything I have is where I want it and I have been debating on whether I should get something to decorate it but deep down wanted it just with nothing. Same with my new end table. 😊😊.. Now I know that unless something with that criteria comes into my life, that is how they remain. ❤❤. Also, there is nothing neutral about my home. I need color. ❤ I have been a subscriber for about a month or so and I just love your channel.

I like a good accent wall that's cohesive with the rest of the room & not a jarring contrast. I'm planning on a light to mid-toned (unlike the typical, dark, deep colors) tiki wall for my aquariums & plants that will frame everything together & not stick out like a sore thumb in my otherwise Boho-Japandi house. Framing it with gently carved, mid-toned, wood molding should do it justice & help it match the built-in book cases & provide balance.

I really appreciate your distinction between the trend itself, and how badly/well it's executed. It changes the thought process from "I like this, but X picture makes it look tacky" to "I like this; how can I use it in a well-planned way?"

You can make it longer and have two magnetic attachment points on the long sleeve and at the bottom of the sleeve have a little bars that stick out and actually block the tripod mount from spinning mechanically instead of just squeeze fit
