Slightly un-related, it would be epic if Whittaker's eventual demise as 13th (hopefully preceded by a forgivingly good final series for her) involves a unique regenerations, like how the Classic Dr. Who ones were, always unique and different. And then there were some pre-2005 Doctor Who stories... Producer John Wiles planned to introduce a new actor as The Doctor after he became visible again in "The Celestial Toymaker". That went down in flames, Wiles resigned, and it would be another six months before we'd see a replacement. William Hartnell famously took the phone call requesting his participation in "The Three Doctors" and agreed to revisit the part that he originated. His wife found out and caught up with producer, Barry Letts, and writer, Terrance Dicks, to explain that Mr. Hartnell must have agreed on one of his better days, but at that point, his condition wouldn't allow him to show up with the other Doctors to confront Omega late in the story. Tom Baker's initially agreed to appear in "The Five Doctors", after which he reversed course. That changed the dynamic for the pairing of companions, with Frazer Hines and Deborah Watling in and out of the picture, and Carol Ann Ford nearly bowing out over the idea that she shouldn't refer to The Doctor as "grandfather" over the implication that he had, well, you know, uh, slept with a lady.

One problem I have with Twice Upon A Time is that if in the previous story the Doctor erased his mind of Clara and all that was known as a story of her, how did he recognize her at the end of Twice Upon A Time? If that is so, how come after the story The Girl Who Fell the Doctor didn't travel with or without her family searching for Clara again? Hence knowing she had a Tardis and the chameleon circuit stuck in the shape of a 1950s diner or even paths crossing later on by accident or missed within the storylines thus far since.

"The Girl Who Died" was a planned story? From watching it, I had assumed it was something Moffat and his co-writer had thrown together to give background to "The Woman Who Lived," since it was written by someone else-and I actually preferred "The Girl Who Died." As for "A Man Goes to War," I don't think Captain Jack would have improved it. I never understand the whining about the 50th. We got a trilogy that featured numerous cameos of all the Doctors, including an origin moment with the First Doctor and Susan. We got cameos of lots of companions and other supporting characters. We got the Brig’s daughter. We got a classic monster from a well loved Fourth Doctor story. We got a surprise appearance by Paul McGann. We got a surprise appearance by Tom Baker. We got the Great Intelligence, the Cybermen, and truck loads of Daleks. We got a TV film about the real world origins of Doctor Who. We got a comedy about the surviving Doctors trying to get parts in Day. I was there for the tenth anniversary. We got one past Doctor, the cameo of another past Doctor, no past companions, and a magazine. The magazine consisted of some interviews, an episode guide for the show so far, and a Dalek origin story from Terry Nation which contradicted the origin given in the comics and would itself be contradicted by his own Genesis serial a couple of years later.

The Girl Who Died sounds way more fun, and it reminds me of a so bad it's good Classic DW story. A Good Man Goes to War still probably would've been shite, but at least Captain Jack would've made it a bit better. If the message of Kerblam! would've stayed the same with "greedy corporations = good; people trying to make a difference = bad" then it still probably would've been crap, but it's possible it could've maybe been better with its more epic feel. But probably not. I'm very much glad they didn't add depth to Davros in Journey's End. Because that would mean making Davros, who is essentially Space Hitler, sympathetic. And that is no bueno. For Impossible Planet, I much prefer the Ood. The Raxicor- *sigh* Slitheen will always be known as the "farting aliens" no matter what way you try to write them. Plus, they look too cute to truly be threatening and are too big and weird looking. The Ood are much simpler and can be creepy when need be. I'm really glad Abbott's script didn't get made. It doesn't sound like something the Ninth Doctor would do. Maybe the Seventh Doctor (especially since he kind of did already with Ace in The Curse of Fenric and Ghost Light, but not nearly as fucked up). But the Ninth Doctor was broken from the horrors of war, I don't think he would do something so sinister. Fry's script sounds a billion times better than what we got with Fear Her. Fear Her was such a bland and mediocre episode, almost anything would've been better. Twice Upon A Time is sort of love/hate for me personally. But it would've been better if it didn't feature Clara. Not just because Clara sucks, but because it's yet another "Moffat happy ending" that I do very much despise. Considering that The End of Time pretty much ruined the Tenth Doctor for me, I don't think they could've done a lot to improve it. With probably the exception of getting rid of the "I don't want to go" horseshit. But still. The stranger idea definitely sounds better to me though. As much as I hate Clara as a character, the Doctor-less Day of the Doctor... actually sounds better. Since you can barely call The Day of the Doctor a 50th anniversary special, with Clara trying to remember the Doctor, it sounds kinda more interesting. It would be more the "trip down memory lane" that the anniversary specials are supposed to be rather than the circle jerk to NuWho we got with the actual DotD. I think if you tweaked it, it could've worked.

Me too man. They just skipped it completely and never even showed us how the doctor came out of his own time stream. I don't know what a season without the doctor would have been like, but the doctor being scattered in their own timeline and Clara trying to find the doctor again while encountering multiple doctors could have been a very cool adventure. I feel like the new run is destroying great moments in the past that posed more exciting questions for the background of the show by blocking it with this new timeless child nonsense... I'm holding out for this season hoping it will just retcon everything that happened these seasons. At this time I'd honestly rather find out that those particles that made up the dream lord and those dreams surrounding him, are back on the loose in the TARDIS while Peter Capaldis doctor is regenerating into the next one after him, so in that way chibnails whole run becomes nothing but a dream in the mind of the doctor. I feel like that would help explain everything and set up for RTD returning with the true successor to Peter Capaldis Doctor
