Excellent video, thanks for the tips, particularly about multiple coat colored pre-mix. Not to be a noodge, but I figure you may appreciate the heads up. it is an exothermic reaction (exo: gives off, thermic: heat) and the torch your holding is a propane canister, or maybe MAPP (which isn't actual MAPP any longer). It is possible you are getting mixed up with an hydrothermal vent, which is a pretty cool thing in and of itself. Thanks for the tips!

I just made another mistake that you haven't mentioned on a small coffee table, and that was, to not 'prime' or coat the edges with a thin layer of epoxy first, and let it dry before I did the actual poor. I _did_ make sure the edges were clean before pooring, but still, some particles released from the edges of the raw wood and were very clearly visible hours after the poor.
@GlobMarble

Thats correct, any porous surface whether it is wood, or concrete must receive a primer coat before the finish coat.

Hi. Really good tips, thanks. I have a question. I have been resin coating some tables for pub and two of them, as they have been starting to set have got marks in them that look like a 'snail trail'. I just cannot work out what that is or why it happens. Back in January I coated the whole of our bar top and it did not occur then. Do you think it could be a fault in the resin? I am completely foxed by it. It doesn't look that bad and it still remains looking like glass. Any thoughts? If you have an email address I could send a picture perhaps. Cheers for now.

Hi, just found your video, just sanded my new recycled table top ( Oregon) at least that’s what it’s called here in Australia, my problem is it’s winter here now, my question is how crucial is the temperature when applying the epoxy, my garage is my workshop so no heating, is there any epoxy that’s handles the colder weather, temperatures range from 10/18 Celsius or 50/64 Fahrenheit. Thanks
@GlobMarble

All epoxy handles cold temperatures, it just hardens much slower than it would in the heat. You have nothing to worry about!

Hi I just painted concrete floor with concrete paint and I used a sealer after but not liking how it looks. I was thinking about pouring clear apoxy over it just to give that look. I want it but not sure if have to sand down the sealer. Which probably won’t be able because. I did a design with extencils
@GlobMarble

We don't recommend sanding the sealer and applying epoxy to it because you never know how the two brands or products will react together. You're basically flipping a coin on it working or failing. Instead, I'd recommend using a sealer stripper. We have two product options; EnviroStrip, globmarble.com/acrylic-paint-and-sealer-remover-and-stripper-envirostrip.html which is totally safe to use around plants and your garden, and FastStrip globmarble.com/faststrip-plus-solvent-based-concrete-sealer-remover-and-coating-stripper.html which works faster but cant be used around your plants and grass. Hope this helps :)

Hi, Thank you for the tips. I am doing a small table top. Never worked with this type epoxy of finish. I bought a 32oz of Famowood from Lowes for the project. Question: When I mix part A and part B as specified in the instructions. Will pouring the mixed solution into a clean container help me avoid or reduce raw resin being in the finish coat? Or is that just wasting time?
@GlobMarble
3 жыл бұрын
It would definitely help but don't forget to thoroughly scrape and mix the sides anyways. In both buckets.

would a remedy for epoxying an uneven (fixed) surfaces that cannot simply be leveled be to pour a leveling layer then to pour the intended aesthetic layer?
@GlobMarble

Usually people level the ground evenly by grinding high points, and filling low points with self-level concrete.

How do you keep your resin from sucking into the wood and having your pour sink in?
@GlobMarble
3 жыл бұрын
You have to pre-coat your wood with a thin layer of epoxy. Easiest way is to get most of it completely coated with a gloved hand, and hit the deep points with a brush. Let the thin layer cure, and then pour your epoxy on the "sealed" wood :)

Hey! I want to repair a water damaged epoxy bottle caps table. Only about 10% of the table is water damaged so ideally I could cut or chisel out the bad parts and redo those parts. Have you ever tried cutting / chiseling epoxy for a repair and if so do you have any tips for this.
@GlobMarble
3 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't recommend chiseling because epoxy cracks and breaks in unpredictable directions. I would cut out the area which needs replacing, pour the same epoxy in the hole, and sand the entire thing smooth again.

When I mix epoxy I ALWAYS make sure I scrape the sides down at least 4 times when I am mixing my epoxy and I scrape off my mixing tool. So far I have not had a problem with wet spots but the most I have mixed is 2lts.

Hey I'm filling a crack on a board and it looks like I have small bubbles in the resin after I sanded it . Its hardened and has voids . Is there a fix for this ? Thanks
@GlobMarble
3 жыл бұрын
if the bubbles are on the surface the easiest way is to sand inside of the bubble, pour some new epoxy inside to the point where it overflows the original bubble. then sand it all flush with the rest of your board

It might not be the cups, it might be your actual floor. You can buy a small level tool for pretty cheap, and some wedges to keep everything perfectly level

between the colors and the final top coat, do we still need to sand?
@GlobMarble
3 жыл бұрын
Absolutely. You need to create tiny scratches for the topcoat to grab on to and not peel off. Any top coat will cover the sanding marks too. If you're doing a table, or something of that scale you can use an orbital sander with 220 grit paper (or just hand sand it). If you're doing a floor you can use a buffer machine with 60 grit paper underneath :)

You would be surprised. Many people are familiar with fast hardening epoxy you get at a hardware store to use as glue, and these mix at a 1:1 ratio. Lots of people mix 2:1 epoxy at the same ratio and are surprised as to why the product malfunctioned.
