Yeah, the highlight of _TAS_ for me was the cooler non-human crewmembers. I know we've had Caitians in live action (the Twins in _Into Darkness_ and some sort of admiral in _Voyage Home_ ), and between Shran and Hemmer, we've seen a decent amount of representation from Andoria, but *I really want Cadet Arex* to make an appearance in _Strange New Worlds_ (and would love if we could see some scenes of Uhura mentoring M'Ress).

We quite nicely retconned the Bonnie: First ship to have a MODERN warp drive--a post NX engine (around the time of the NX refit). Also later when Sarah April said"As the first medical officer aboard a ship equipped with warp drive, I'm afraid I had to come up with new ideas all the time." we chalked it up to a dry sense of humor like "Get me, I'm old!"
@krisgonynor689
Жыл бұрын
Right - The Phoenix was the first ship capable of warp speed. The NX Enterprise was the first ship capable of warp 5. The Bonnie was probably the first ship that could fly at warp 7 for long times. The original Constitution class was faster ( and the drive was referred to as a "time warp drive" in "The Cage"), The Enterprise from the TMP was a refit and far faster and more powerful. The Galaxy class ended up rewriting the warp scale with speeds above warp 9.5. So the Bonnie would have been a newer class of warp drive ship than it's older counterparts. Which of course the crew would say was the first of it's kind - what crew wouldn't brag about having the first in the class of the newest starships? Excelsior's captain sure did brag about his ship.

Thing is, during the 1990s and up until Discovery (I think), “Yesteryear” was considered the *only* episode of TAS to be included as ST Canon, as its depiction of Spock’s childhood was referenced in the TNG episode “Unification Part 1.”
@jonathancook7616

No, you are correct. During my late high school-early college years, I owned a copy of the at-the-time current edition of the "Star Trek Encyclopedia" which addresses this topic. Gene only allowed that episode to be cannon given the details of Vulcan history at present. However, the series as a whole was not considered cannon as the book wanted to focus on just the "live-action on TV/Movies" stuff. Practically all the Star Trek novels of the era were not included as well.

Although this series may fail to impress viewers now (especially younger ones who have never experienced the long dearth of new Star Trek episodes in the 1970s), back when it first aired it was a breath of fresh air which brought new hope that Star trek was not dead forever. And imo the animated series recaptured the feel of the original series in a way that no subsequent show from TNG onward *never* has. If you wanna say "Okay, Boomer," feel free.
