Dear Autumn, I am a medical doctor from the Netherlands and I find this advice to be wrong, misleading and even dangerous for some people. As a nutritionist you should know the dangers of encouraging people to drink more coffee, eat more salt, eat more beef and eat 3 whole eggs a day. I gave it a dislike and encourage people to take this advice with a grain of caution.

I have to ask a for some direction on smoothies. I love fruit, all the fruit. I love the flavor of all the berries but I cannot deal with the seeds! I even get blueberry skin stuck in my teeth. I haven’t tried this but I wonder if I can strain the fruits? I’m thinking, that might strain out the flesh of the fruit as well. Am I the only one who doesn’t like all those seeds? Anybody have advice? Have the smoothie then floss and brush my teeth! 🤷🏻♀️
@rickmurphy4895
Жыл бұрын
You can strain fruit, definitely. The result will be similar to juicing. You should be mindful that this removes fiber and will raise the glycemic index and thereby the glycemic load of your smoothie. If you are pre-diabetic, have a family history of insulin resistance, or are diabetic yourself, then removing the fiber isn't such a great idea because your blood sugar will spike more dramatically with less fiber to slow sugar absorption. That said, berries in general are of less concern than other fruits. If you still want to strain/juice fruit, you can lower the Glycemic load by adding some healthy fats or protein either to your smoothie or just eat them at the same time as your smoothie.

Are all eggs created equally? I have been helping out a friend who has birds in exchange for eggs. From her, I get chicken, duck, goose, and turkey eggs. They're mixed together, and what I depends on which birds are laying eggs. It's mostly chicken and duck eggs. Do all eggs have about the same nutrients? All of them are fed a combination of kitchen scraps, commercial feed, and anything they find as they range. Obviously, in winter, they rely mostly on commercial feed, and they don't lay as many eggs, but the eggs are still very good. The yolks are deep yellow, almost orange in some, the whites hold together well, and the shells are thick but don't crumble. Speaking of eggs, other friends of mine save, clean, dry, and powder their eggshells and add them to their homemade dog food and sometimes their own smoothies for a hit of calcium. Is this worth doing? Is it safe? I have just been using them for fertilizer.

Not to mention the quality of the beef itself (grass-fed etc). Meaning, if you prepare ground beef from a fattier cut, that's going to take away some of that, right?
